Forget multitasking, try monotasking
-
0:00 - 0:03I'm a designer and an educator.
-
0:03 - 0:06I'm a multitasking person, and I push my students
-
0:06 - 0:12to fly through a very creative, multitasking design process.
-
0:12 - 0:17But how efficient is, really, this multitasking?
-
0:17 - 0:23Let's consider for a while the option of monotasking.
-
0:23 - 0:26A couple of examples.
-
0:26 - 0:27Look at that.
-
0:27 - 0:31This is my multitasking activity result. (Laughter)
-
0:31 - 0:35So trying to cook, answering the phone, writing SMS,
-
0:35 - 0:37and maybe uploading some pictures
-
0:37 - 0:41about this awesome barbecue.
-
0:41 - 0:45So someone tells us the story about supertaskers,
-
0:45 - 0:48so this two percent of people who are able
-
0:48 - 0:52to control multitasking environment.
-
0:52 - 0:57But what about ourselves, and what about our reality?
-
0:57 - 0:59When's the last time you really enjoyed
-
0:59 - 1:02just the voice of your friend?
-
1:02 - 1:06So this is a project I'm working on,
-
1:06 - 1:11and this is a series of front covers
-
1:11 - 1:15to downgrade our super, hyper —
-
1:15 - 1:20(Laughter) (Applause)
-
1:20 - 1:23to downgrade our super, hyper-mobile phones
-
1:23 - 1:26into the essence of their function.
-
1:26 - 1:29Another example: Have you ever been to Venice?
-
1:29 - 1:33How beautiful it is to lose ourselves in these little streets
-
1:33 - 1:35on the island.
-
1:35 - 1:39But our multitasking reality is pretty different,
-
1:39 - 1:43and full of tons of information.
-
1:43 - 1:46So what about something like that
-
1:46 - 1:50to rediscover our sense of adventure?
-
1:50 - 1:53I know that it could sound pretty weird to speak about mono
-
1:53 - 1:58when the number of possibilities is so huge,
-
1:58 - 2:02but I push you to consider the option of
-
2:02 - 2:05focusing on just one task,
-
2:05 - 2:11or maybe turning your digital senses totally off.
-
2:11 - 2:17So nowadays, everyone could produce his mono product.
-
2:17 - 2:21Why not? So find your monotask spot
-
2:21 - 2:24within the multitasking world.
-
2:24 - 2:25Thank you.
-
2:25 - 2:32(Applause)
