February 22 - Happy Butterflies

  • 0:01 - 0:03
    Five-year-old Tamir was bored.
  • 0:03 - 0:05
He was waiting for his mom
    to finish her work
  • 0:05 - 0:07
    at the Seventh-day
    Adventist school in Mongolia.
  • 0:07 - 0:09
    She worked as an accountant,
  • 0:09 - 0:11
    which meant
she counted money for the school.
  • 0:11 - 0:14
Tamir went to the school's preschool.
  • 0:14 - 0:15
    Now his classes were over,
  • 0:15 - 0:18
and he was sitting on a chair,
    waiting to go home.
  • 0:18 - 0:21
"Mommy, can I have your phone?" he asked.
  • 0:22 - 0:24
His mom handed the phone to the boy.
  • 0:24 - 0:27
His eyes stopped on an app
with a picture of a man
  • 0:27 - 0:30
with wavy white hair and a red jacket.
  • 0:31 - 0:33
"Mommy," he said, "who is that?"
  • 0:34 - 0:36
    "That's Mozart," she said.
  • 0:36 - 0:39
"Wow," Tamir said. "He's so handsome."
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    His mom smiled.
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    She opened the app
and pressed "play" on a song
  • 0:43 - 0:48
written by the famous Austrian composer
    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
  • 0:48 - 0:51
Tamir's eyes opened wide with amazement
  • 0:51 - 0:54
as violin and piano music filled the room.
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    It was beautiful!
  • 0:55 - 0:58
    Happy butterflies filled his tummy.
  • 0:58 - 1:01
    Tamir couldn't stop thinking
    about the music.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
Two days later, he told his parents
  • 1:03 - 1:06
    that he wanted to learn
to play the violin and the piano.
  • 1:06 - 1:07
    His dad shook his head.
  • 1:08 - 1:11
    "We don't have money
    for music lessons," he said.
  • 1:11 - 1:13
    Tears came to Tamir's eyes.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
He wanted to play the violin and piano,
  • 1:16 - 1:18
    and he didn't give up.
  • 1:18 - 1:19
He asked again the next year,
  • 1:19 - 1:22
and every year after that until he was 13.
  • 1:23 - 1:25
    This time, his parents
    didn't shake their heads.
  • 1:25 - 1:29
"I'll take you to violin lessons
    tomorrow," his mom said.
  • 1:29 - 1:32
    She had a friend
who would teach the violin to Tamir.
  • 1:32 - 1:34
    Tamir was so happy!
  • 1:34 - 1:36
His smile stretched from ear to ear.
  • 1:36 - 1:38
    Happy butterflies filled his tummy.
  • 1:38 - 1:40
    He excitedly told his friends.
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    Learning the violin wasn't easy.
  • 1:42 - 1:44
It was difficult to learn the notes.
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    Sometimes Tamir
    wanted to play with friends,
  • 1:46 - 1:48
    but he had to practice.
  • 1:48 - 1:49
    He didn't mind.
  • 1:49 - 1:51
He wanted to fill his tummy
    with happy butterflies.
  • 1:52 - 1:54
    A year passed,
    and Tamir kept practicing.
  • 1:55 - 1:58
Then he was asked to play
    for special music at church.
  • 1:59 - 2:01
    His mom was so happy!
  • 2:01 - 2:04
    On Sabbath morning,
    she excitedly told everyone,
  • 2:04 - 2:07
"My son is playing the violin
    up front today."
  • 2:07 - 2:09
    But Tamir wasn't so happy.
  • 2:09 - 2:11
    His hands began sweating.
  • 2:11 - 2:13
    His neck began sweating.
  • 2:13 - 2:15
    His face began sweating.
  • 2:15 - 2:17
    He was scared about playing
    in front of a crowd.
  • 2:17 - 2:20
    He thought, "No, no, no!
  • 2:20 - 2:22
I don't want to play the violin anymore.
  • 2:22 - 2:23
    I want to go home."
  • 2:24 - 2:26
Tamir's dad saw that the boy was nervous.
  • 2:26 - 2:28
    "Don't worry," he said.
  • 2:28 - 2:29
    "Jesus will help you."
  • 2:30 - 2:32
Tamir knew that his dad was right.
  • 2:32 - 2:35
    He wondered why
he hadn't thought about that first.
  • 2:35 - 2:37
    He silently prayed,
  • 2:37 - 2:40
    "God, please help me
not be scared of the people
  • 2:40 - 2:41
    when I play the violin.
  • 2:41 - 2:42
    Please bless me."
  • 2:43 - 2:45
    Then he played
in front of all those people.
  • 2:45 - 2:46
    He wasn't scared.
  • 2:46 - 2:48
    His face wasn't sweating.
  • 2:48 - 2:49
    His neck wasn't sweating.
  • 2:49 - 2:51
    His hands weren't sweating.
  • 2:51 - 2:54
    Happy butterflies filled his tummy.
  • 2:54 - 2:56
    He felt good!
  • 2:56 - 2:59
When he finished, everyone was so happy.
  • 2:59 - 3:01
Tamir knew that God had helped him.
  • 3:01 - 3:04
    To play well,
Tamir needs to practice every day,
  • 3:04 - 3:06
and he needs to pray every day.
  • 3:07 - 3:10
    Tamir wants to represent
Mongolia and God before the world.
  • 3:11 - 3:14
    He wants happy butterflies
to fill his tummy all the time.
  • 3:15 - 3:18
    Pray that Tamir
will be a good representative of God
  • 3:18 - 3:19
    as he learns the violin
  • 3:19 - 3:22
and studies at Tusgal School in Mongolia.
  • 3:22 - 3:26
    His school received part
of a previous 13th Sabbath Offering
  • 3:26 - 3:29
to grow with new classrooms and a library.
  • 3:29 - 3:31
    This quarter's 13th Sabbath Offering
  • 3:31 - 3:34
    will help open a children's
    recreation center,
  • 3:34 - 3:38
where children will be able to learn
about the God who answers prayers.
