-
Hi, I'm Enzel.
-
And I'm Mark.
-
Welcome to your first college
assignment: placement tests.
-
You're probably thinking
you know all about placement tests.
-
Let me tell you something you may not know.
Placement tests have the wrong name.
-
They are actually 'success tests'.
-
Placement tests,
like the one you will be taking,
are precision testing instruments.
-
Each question you answer,
whether the answer is correct or not,
-
let's us know where your strengths are,
or if you face challenges in your
Math, Reading, and Writing skills.
-
After answering the questions,
your results will help tell us
-
what classes you would need to take
to ensure your success
here at Kishwaukee College.
-
For example,
you may be placed in Calculus;
-
or you may be placed in Arithmatic,
or in between.
-
Where you're placed is the
precise point that you need to gain
-
the skills and knowledge to be
succesful in Mathematics,
-
or any program where you plan to study,
to have the career that you want.
-
This is the same for English and Reading skills.
You may be ready for a college course,
-
or you may need to take another class
to help build up your skill.
-
The bottom line is,
your acedemic success.
-
Kishwaukee wants you to succed,
and that is the reason there are
-
different levels of Math,
Reading, and Writing classes.
-
Everyone has strengths
in particular areas,
-
and other areas that have
always been a challenge.
-
You know yourself better than anyone,
and you know which areas
-
have come more easily
to you than others.
-
The placement tests at Kishwaukee College
covers topics, skills, and knowledge
-
that meet the
expected national standards,
-
not just what was
covered by your high school.
-
So there may be concepts
that you've never seen before.
-
That is okay.
-
It's how the tests works
to find out what you know.
-
For the placement tests to be
as precise as they are designed to be,
you have to do the best you can.
-
The placement test does not allow you
to return to questions
to rethink your answer.
-
Plus, if you answer
something incorrectly,
the test will stop you,
-
because it will evaluate you
as not being prepared in your subject.
-
That is why practicing with
the sample test questions
-
before taking the placement tests
can help you prepare.
-
When you take the placement tests,
use the test-taking strategies
that you learned at your highschool.
-
You do not have to take
all three sections on the same day.
-
If you are stressed, or tired,
come back another day and take the exam.
-
But most of all, relax.
-
The placement test is not timed,
so you can take your time,
and do your best.
-
Remember, this is your
personal placement test
to ensure your college success.
