Music as a passport | Nikola Živanović | TEDxYouth@ISB

  • 0:21 - 0:22
    Good afternoon, everyone.
  • 0:22 - 0:26
They say talent is having faith
    in yourself, your strength,
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    and your abilities.
  • 0:28 - 0:32
    I was lucky enough
to be given that gift by God,
  • 0:32 - 0:34
but three things are very important
  • 0:34 - 0:38
    in order to develop
that talent to a certain level.
  • 0:39 - 0:43
    These are three
very simple words to be said,
  • 0:43 - 0:48
    but actually, no one
is really aware how hard that is.
  • 0:49 - 0:51
First among them is, of course, work.
  • 0:52 - 0:56
    To develop a talent
during a certain period of time,
  • 0:57 - 1:00
one needs to invest many hours in it.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
    On the other hand,
  • 1:03 - 1:09
if you dedicate a certain amount of time
    to your talent every day,
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    then automatically one needs
to sacrifice a lot of things.
  • 1:13 - 1:19
And if it doesn't come to realization,
    unfortunately, that talent deteriorates.
  • 1:19 - 1:23
    And the third thing is,
    of course, inspiration.
  • 1:24 - 1:29
    I find my inspiration
in visiting my home town, Gruža.
  • 1:29 - 1:31
That’s a little village near Kragujevac.
  • 1:32 - 1:36
Since I've been playing for twelve years
  • 1:36 - 1:41
and have been working with children
in a music school in Gruža for 8 years,
  • 1:41 - 1:44
I want to share with them the idea
  • 1:44 - 1:49
that has led me in my musical
    development and creativity.
  • 1:49 - 1:54
Actually, that idea is that music
    and dance are universal languages.
  • 1:55 - 1:59
That is why I would ask you
to allow me to introduce myself
  • 1:59 - 2:02
    through the language
    that doesn't need a translator.
  • 2:10 - 2:12
    (Music starts)
  • 6:21 - 6:22
    (Music ends)
  • 6:22 - 6:24
    (Applause)
