Many see them as a way to connect

with people and reduce the influence
of the traditional press.

And although Sheinbaum has said she
will continue them,

judging by her character, it's unlikely
she will use these press conferences

to openly antagonize her enemies.

AMLO is considered a personable,
charismatic leader.

Sheinbaum, on the other hand, is not
known for this characteristic

Rest assured, we will live up to our
history and

to the generous and grand people
of Mexico.

She is formal, a perfectionist, and
meticulous in her pursuit of efficiency,

and prudent in a methodological sense.

And in that, at least in principle, there
will be a change.

The second issue relates to the country’s
most serious problem,

according to surveys: insecurity.

Although official data shows that
homicides and kidnappings

were declining during AMLO's six years in
office, but this was the six-year term

with the most homicides in the
country's recent history.

This problem is ongoing, and AMLO sought
to remedy it in several ways:

he replaced the federal police with a
National Guard,

empowered the military with new duties,
and last month reformed the judiciary to,

according to him, end impunity.

But, ultimately, his goal was to end
violence through

social programs for those who, in theory,
are at risk of

being recruited into crime.

Although Sheinbaum supported
these initiatives and hopes

to develop policies addressing the causes
of violence in young people,

she also wants to do different things.

As mayor, she significantly reduced
indicators of violence through

three measures: advanced monitoring
and reporting technology

using cameras and data,

coordination between entities such
as prosecutors' offices and police to

follow up on cases, and improved
crime reporting and investigation

processes.
