Weebly Tutorial for Beginners (2021 Full Tutorial) - Easy Professional Website

  • 0:00 - 0:03
    >> In this video I'm going to show
you everything you need to know
  • 0:03 - 0:05
to build your first website with Weebly.
  • 0:05 - 0:10
So this is a step by step tutorial in which I'll
show you all of the tools, where to find them,
  • 0:10 - 0:15
and how to use them, so you can effectively
and efficiently build your first website today.
  • 0:15 - 0:19
Now this is a tutorial for beginners,
but in the description of this video,
  • 0:19 - 0:21
I'll have some notes there for different times.
  • 0:21 - 0:25
If you are not a total beginner and
you want to jump to a certain section,
  • 0:25 - 0:27
feel free to do so in the description.
  • 0:27 - 0:31
So let's start off going to the
link at the top of the description
  • 0:31 - 0:34
and it'll bring you right here to a
page that looks something like this.
  • 0:34 - 0:37
    So it's Weebly, and there's
    e commerce by Square.
  • 0:37 - 0:38
    There's different options here.
  • 0:38 - 0:41
We're going to go to sign up on the top right.
  • 0:41 - 0:42
And this will be pretty straightforward.
  • 0:42 - 0:44
They just want your name and your email.
  • 0:44 - 0:45
So let's do that right now.
  • 0:46 - 0:49
Now there now if you're watching this video,
you probably already selected Weebly compared
  • 0:49 - 0:54
to Squarespace or Wix or many others out
there, and it is definitely a good choice.
  • 0:54 - 0:56
I like using Weebly as much as
I like using the other ones.
  • 0:57 - 0:58
Each one has its own purpose.
  • 0:58 - 1:01
Weebly is great because you can also
have a free version when you start off.
  • 1:01 - 1:07
But I really do recommend if you have a business
upgrading to premium is very, very necessary.
  • 1:07 - 1:09
So we'll talk about that later on in the video.
  • 1:09 - 1:12
But once you sign up for an account,
it brings you to the very next page.
  • 1:12 - 1:15
    Again, I really like the
    clean layout right here.
  • 1:15 - 1:17
So it says, do you want to just have a website?
  • 1:17 - 1:19
Or do you want a website with an online store?
  • 1:19 - 1:23
I will make another video in the future
    about online stores in particular,
  • 1:23 - 1:25
or we can add one if we really want one.
  • 1:25 - 1:28
But right now I'm just going
to say, I just need a website,
  • 1:28 - 1:30
and I'll show you how we're
    doing that in this video.
  • 1:30 - 1:33
    So just selecting website, they
give you a whole bunch of templates.
  • 1:33 - 1:35
You can select a theme, as they call it.
  • 1:35 - 1:38
And so there's lots of options at the top.
  • 1:38 - 1:41
    If it's a business, a portfolio,
they split it into several groups
  • 1:41 - 1:44
    that really makes sense for
    most people at least.
  • 1:44 - 1:48
So you can say if you're like a blog, you'd
probably go with one of these over here.
  • 1:48 - 1:52
And they definitely kind of arrange it
a little bit more for a blog type setup.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
Now that's not to say that if you
choose this one, it has to be a blog.
  • 1:56 - 1:59
If you choose it, you could easily make it a
    portfolio, or a business, or a personal one;
  • 2:00 - 2:04
it just might require a little bit more
reworking, which is really not a big deal.
  • 2:04 - 2:08
So for our purposes, let's go down and
choose how about this one right here,
  • 2:08 - 2:11
just a personal - a blog about food.
  • 2:11 - 2:13
So they show you what the theme looks like.
  • 2:13 - 2:18
You can go through here and kind of click
around and use the website for an example.
  • 2:18 - 2:19
Say there's like an about me.
  • 2:19 - 2:21
It's a personal type of blog.
  • 2:21 - 2:24
You can go to the blog page and
you can have a contact page.
  • 2:24 - 2:28
And maybe for our purposes today,
that's all we really need to have.
  • 2:28 - 2:33
And for this tutorial, I'll show you everything
you need to know, for the other tools as well,
  • 2:33 - 2:34
if you're making a business or something else.
  • 2:34 - 2:37
But just for the example, let's
use a blog one right here.
  • 2:37 - 2:39
So we can go up to start editing.
  • 2:39 - 2:44
Click the blue button, and this will
bring you into the actual themes.
  • 2:44 - 2:46
They're going to build it for
    you, have the website ready,
  • 2:46 - 2:48
and then we can start customizing.
  • 2:48 - 2:51
So the first thing you're prompted with
then is to actually select a domain,
  • 2:51 - 2:54
and you can actually transfer or
connect one if you already have one.
  • 2:54 - 2:56
I'm not going to show that in this video.
  • 2:56 - 2:57
Instead, we'll just get a brand new one.
  • 2:57 - 3:03
    So right here, www.mikeobrieniscool.com.
  • 3:03 - 3:05
Let's just say see if that's available.
  • 3:05 - 3:05
    Who knows?
  • 3:05 - 3:07
If it is, we can snag it.
  • 3:07 - 3:08
And so they show you right there.
  • 3:08 - 3:11
    There is a professional domain
    mikeobrieniscool.com.
  • 3:11 - 3:13
Believe it or not, nobody took that one.
  • 3:13 - 3:15
So it's included with a one year plan.
  • 3:15 - 3:17
So we can go down and select this one.
  • 3:17 - 3:20
And they have other ones as well,
    other domains that are similar.
  • 3:20 - 3:23
If yours is not available, it
suggests a few that are available,
  • 3:23 - 3:25
or you can just keep looking for it.
  • 3:26 - 3:28
So that'll bring you to the next page here.
  • 3:28 - 3:31
And here you can see there's several
different plans you can choose from,
  • 3:31 - 3:34
and each plan has different features
    and a different price associated.
  • 3:35 - 3:39
And if we actually want a free one, I know
earlier I said you can have a free one.
  • 3:39 - 3:43
So if we jump back one step, you'll notice that
on the bottom of the screen, you can actually go
  • 3:44 - 3:46
and select a free one, and you'll continue on.
  • 3:46 - 3:48
Everything will be pretty much normal.
  • 3:48 - 3:52
But when you publish your site, it
    will definitely be less professional.
  • 3:52 - 3:56
So you'll have Weebly ads all over there,
and you also won't have your own domain.
  • 3:56 - 3:58
    You'll have limited storage and
    some other limits like that.
  • 3:58 - 4:03
So your domain will be like
    mikeobrieniscoll.weebly.com.
  • 4:03 - 4:05
    If you're running a business,
    you obviously can't have that.
  • 4:05 - 4:10
But if it's like a personal, maybe a project
for school, or if you're just doing it for fun,
  • 4:10 - 4:12
or if you're looking to maybe have
  • 4:12 - 4:16
like a wedding website that's not
professional, then it might be fine for you.
  • 4:16 - 4:17
    So definitely check that out.
  • 4:17 - 4:20
But for most businesses, and I recommend
    actually most websites in general,
  • 4:21 - 4:22
you probably want to upgrade here.
  • 4:22 - 4:23
    So three plans.
  • 4:23 - 4:27
One thing to note is the price that they
show you is the billed annually price.
  • 4:27 - 4:29
So you do save money if you get it for the year.
  • 4:29 - 4:31
If you want to pay month to month,
  • 4:31 - 4:33
it is a little bit more expensive
as you see on the bottom.
  • 4:34 - 4:38
    That's like 50%, more expensive,
    or 30%, whatever, more expensive.
  • 4:38 - 4:41
So I recommend you go down
    and compare all features.
  • 4:41 - 4:43
So if we go down, they show you them.
  • 4:43 - 4:45
    And there's definitely some
    big differences here.
  • 4:45 - 4:49
So instead of just jumping on the cheapest one
right there, you'll notice that you do have
  • 4:49 - 4:50
to pay extra for your domain then.
  • 4:51 - 4:54
That might only be $10 or $12 a
year, maybe a little bit more.
  • 4:54 - 4:58
They do all have SSL security, which
    means that they're all encrypted.
  • 4:58 - 4:58
    They're safer.
  • 4:58 - 5:01
They have a little lock icon
on the top next to your domain.
  • 5:01 - 5:04
A lot of people look for that if
they're going to make online purchases.
  • 5:04 - 5:07
This is not an e commerce store,
but they still pretty much look
  • 5:07 - 5:09
for that when they go to websites.
  • 5:09 - 5:12
    You do not have unlimited
    storage with the cheapest one.
  • 5:12 - 5:13
    Or actually sorry.
  • 5:13 - 5:13
    Yes, you do.
  • 5:14 - 5:19
But it does not remove the Square ads, which
is kind of a drawback there that I find I
  • 5:19 - 5:23
like to get rid of those ads so it
doesn't say powered by Weebly on there.
  • 5:23 - 5:24
I think that's kind of unprofessional.
  • 5:24 - 5:28
So for most people, I recommend going with the
middle plan right here, unless you really want
  • 5:28 - 5:31
to go with the unlimited one over
there when you have more members
  • 5:31 - 5:33
so you can have just some other stuff going on.
  • 5:33 - 5:36
So I'm going to select the
    professional one for this video.
  • 5:37 - 5:41
And I'm making this website I'm not
actually using this website for anything.
  • 5:41 - 5:46
So while I type in my credit card information
and pay to show you guys this tutorial,
  • 5:47 - 5:50
please consider going down and click the
like button and the subscribe button.
  • 5:50 - 5:52
And let's jump back to this in a second.
  • 5:52 - 5:56
Okay. So next I want to give you guys
just a full tour of the editor here,
  • 5:56 - 5:58
what the tools are, where to
find them, and how to use them.
  • 5:58 - 6:02
So starting off with the top bar
there, the first thing is build.
  • 6:02 - 6:06
And build gives you all everything on the side
there, on the left side, these are your tools
  • 6:06 - 6:09
    when you're really doing most
of the work on your page.
  • 6:09 - 6:13
When you're trying to really build it, move
things around, make it look good, add content,
  • 6:13 - 6:16
most of that is going to
be done in the build tab.
  • 6:16 - 6:18
And we will come back to this.
  • 6:18 - 6:19
I'll show you pretty much everything in here.
  • 6:20 - 6:23
    But continuing through, we have
pages, and pages is a great way
  • 6:23 - 6:25
to go through your different pages.
  • 6:25 - 6:27
So right now we only have
    four with this template.
  • 6:27 - 6:30
We have home; we have blog; we
have about, and we have contact.
  • 6:30 - 6:33
So with those four, you can
go into each one of them.
  • 6:33 - 6:36
So if you click on it, it'll bring
you to that page and also brings
  • 6:36 - 6:38
up the menu for it on the left side.
  • 6:38 - 6:41
So this is where you want to rename
it, or you can hide it from navigation.
  • 6:41 - 6:45
So for example, if I want this
to be about Mike I don't know.
  • 6:45 - 6:45
    Same thing really.
  • 6:46 - 6:49
And if we want this to well first of
all, you'll see that if we do about Mike,
  • 6:49 - 6:52
it shows up in the top right
    there in your navigation.
  • 6:52 - 6:56
If you want to hide it, you don't want that to
be there maybe it's a page that we just want
  • 6:56 - 7:00
to maybe only link to, we can
go and hide it in navigation,
  • 7:00 - 7:01
and you'll see it disappears in the top right.
  • 7:02 - 7:03
    You can have headers.
  • 7:03 - 7:08
So you can have if you want a header, no
header, or if you want like splash whatever,
  • 7:08 - 7:09
all those let's check out splash right now.
  • 7:09 - 7:10
    Different headers.
  • 7:10 - 7:13
You can see that it just
    looks a little bit different.
  • 7:13 - 7:14
    I don't know.
  • 7:14 - 7:18
So for this one, I'm going to say,
let's add just whatever, regular header.
  • 7:18 - 7:20
We can tap and edit that later.
  • 7:20 - 7:23
Then we can also go into our SEO settings.
  • 7:23 - 7:27
And one thing with Weebly is
SEO can be a little bit tricky,
  • 7:27 - 7:29
    and we'll talk about this
more later on in the video.
  • 7:29 - 7:33
But this is where you can have like the page
title, the page description, the meta keywords,
  • 7:33 - 7:37
things like that, the footer code, if you're
going to add like a maybe a pixel or something,
  • 7:37 - 7:39
you can do a lot of that in here.
  • 7:39 - 7:41
So we'll come back to that
    later on in the video.
  • 7:41 - 7:45
Now if you want to rearrange the pages so if
we want to switch like contact and blog here,
  • 7:45 - 7:47
you can click and drag them,
    switch them either way.
  • 7:48 - 7:52
And if you want contact to be a sub
page of blog, which means that it'll pop
  • 7:52 - 7:56
up in the menu below there and people can go and
check that out, then you just click and drag it
  • 7:56 - 7:59
to the right and you'll see it
disappears from the main menu there.
  • 7:59 - 8:02
But people can still access it if
they go and check out up there.
  • 8:02 - 8:05
See how it pops out below
that when you hover over blog.
  • 8:05 - 8:07
    So that's essentially everything
    in the pages area.
  • 8:07 - 8:10
Of course, you can add another page if you want.
  • 8:10 - 8:12
And there should be some options
for what the page is like.
  • 8:12 - 8:18
If you want like a product page, or a category
page, a standard page, most of those, you know,
  • 8:18 - 8:20
    should be covering pretty much
    everything you're trying to do.
  • 8:21 - 8:22
Then we go over to theme.
  • 8:22 - 8:24
We already chose a theme before.
  • 8:24 - 8:25
But you can change the theme.
  • 8:25 - 8:29
You can change the fonts, and you can
change some theme options here if you want.
  • 8:29 - 8:32
So not actually that many theme
options there as you can see.
  • 8:32 - 8:35
You do have a lot of different
    fonts you can mess around with;
  • 8:35 - 8:37
change whatever the default of that.
  • 8:37 - 8:41
I recommend using as few fonts as
possible while it still looks good.
  • 8:41 - 8:45
And you want to if you're trying to have
this load fast and rank higher on Google,
  • 8:45 - 8:49
you may want to look into some very
user friendly or load friendly fonts.
  • 8:49 - 8:52
So like Roboto or Open sans
    are two very popular ones.
  • 8:52 - 8:56
So just something to look into if you
want your website to be a little quicker.
  • 8:56 - 8:58
Then if we go over to apps, there are lots
  • 8:58 - 9:01
    of different applications
you can get on Weebly here.
  • 9:01 - 9:03
So there's some that are made by Weebly.
  • 9:03 - 9:04
    There's some social ones.
  • 9:04 - 9:07
You can have some traffic boosting
ones and just lots of apps.
  • 9:07 - 9:09
    Scroll through here and check
    these out if you want.
  • 9:10 - 9:15
I don't typically add that many apps for your
average, just quick online store or just simple,
  • 9:15 - 9:17
    you know when you're first
    building this website,
  • 9:17 - 9:20
you might not need these apps right away.
  • 9:20 - 9:22
So let's go and close this,
    not get any apps yet.
  • 9:23 - 9:25
If we go over to settings, this
gets a little bit more advanced.
  • 9:25 - 9:27
You can go into some general stuff there.
  • 9:28 - 9:29
    There is also SEO.
  • 9:29 - 9:32
So again, for your general site, if you
want your site description and stuff
  • 9:32 - 9:35
like that, you can decide to be editors.
  • 9:35 - 9:38
If you have other people working on
this website, you can choose, you know,
  • 9:38 - 9:39
who they are, what role they have.
  • 9:40 - 9:42
And you can see like last login there.
  • 9:42 - 9:45
You can have members joining your website
if you have like a members website.
  • 9:45 - 9:49
Some people do that if they have
    like creative content on there.
  • 9:49 - 9:52
Or maybe like somebody has to become a member,
  • 9:52 - 9:54
    and you collect your email
    for an email list then.
  • 9:54 - 9:56
    Just some other options there.
  • 9:56 - 9:59
You can go down and manage your apps, and you
can actually manage some blog stuff down here.
  • 9:59 - 10:03
And then we also have help up there
if you want to reach out to Weebly.
  • 10:03 - 10:05
So that's everything across the top.
  • 10:05 - 10:08
Let's go into the main one, as I
    mentioned before, which is build.
  • 10:08 - 10:11
    And actually, let's go and
    build a different page.
  • 10:11 - 10:13
Let's work on the homepage first.
  • 10:13 - 10:16
So if we go to home right here,
you'll see that brings home up.
  • 10:17 - 10:20
Then let's go back to build,
and within build let's go down
  • 10:20 - 10:22
and just start looking at what we have here.
  • 10:22 - 10:27
So if you just go around, you can actually
see it's kind of a strip layout pretty common
  • 10:27 - 10:29
for a lot of website builders like Weebly.
  • 10:29 - 10:32
Of course, Wix is kind of the same
way, where you have options here
  • 10:32 - 10:34
where this is like one whole strip right here.
  • 10:34 - 10:37
And then we go down, and the
whole white area is another strip.
  • 10:37 - 10:40
And then we go down here
    and this is another strip.
  • 10:40 - 10:44
So you can add more well they call them sections
is what they do, but it's like a strip layout.
  • 10:44 - 10:46
And so you can add things.
  • 10:46 - 10:47
    You can add different strips.
  • 10:47 - 10:48
    You can move these around.
  • 10:48 - 10:50
And so let's just look at the first one.
  • 10:50 - 10:53
Let's just say if we want this,
which I believe is an image,
  • 10:53 - 10:55
then we can either edit the
    image; we can replace it.
  • 10:55 - 10:58
We can make it a light box, which
means if somebody clicks on it,
  • 10:58 - 11:00
it will come, fill up the whole screen.
  • 11:00 - 11:02
You can you can link it to something.
  • 11:03 - 11:06
So let's just say if we want this
to be a link, we can actually go
  • 11:06 - 11:09
and link it to maybe like a website URL.
  • 11:09 - 11:11
So we want this to link to
  • 11:12 - 11:14
    [ Typing ]
  • 11:14 - 11:16
    maybe another website.
  • 11:16 - 11:20
Or if we want it to be linking to another
page, you can easily do that here.
  • 11:21 - 11:22
And so we should be good with that.
  • 11:22 - 11:23
    So let's link that.
  • 11:24 - 11:28
And we can go back so that now links
up to another website, another domain.
  • 11:28 - 11:30
And then if we go down this is text right here.
  • 11:30 - 11:33
So little text editor pops up above there.
  • 11:33 - 11:36
So you can change like the
    text color or whatever.
  • 11:36 - 11:40
If you want it to be redo and undo, those
are the options on the right, right there.
  • 11:40 - 11:42
Or you can just use the hotkeys
    on your keyboard.
  • 11:43 - 11:44
You can remove all the formatting.
  • 11:44 - 11:49
Or what is really common for a lot of things
like down here if you're writing a blog post,
  • 11:49 - 11:53
a lot of times people will have certain links
to either different sources as a back link
  • 11:53 - 11:57
to somebody else, or a link to
    another article within their website.
  • 11:57 - 12:00
So right here we can go and create a link.
  • 12:00 - 12:04
And you can link to whatever you want
    somebody else's page, like I just showed you;
  • 12:04 - 12:07
a product page; a blog post; a phone; an email.
  • 12:07 - 12:09
    Lots of options, be creative.
  • 12:09 - 12:12
Whatever your need is it should
be very easy to add links.
  • 12:12 - 12:15
And that's a really big thing
in a lot of websites today.
  • 12:15 - 12:16
So down here, again, learn more.
  • 12:16 - 12:19
That's going to be something that
    is probably linked right now.
  • 12:19 - 12:23
And it'll bring you to probably a blog
post or maybe to about me or something.
  • 12:24 - 12:28
On the top, if we go up to the top left, you'll
see right here, this is some text right there.
  • 12:28 - 12:32
And this really you want this
to be linking to your homepage.
  • 12:32 - 12:37
This is really everywhere you go on your
header, you want the logo on the top left.
  • 12:37 - 12:39
    I recommend instead of text
    just make it your logo.
  • 12:39 - 12:42
It's usually pretty easy so you
    get the right font, everything.
  • 12:42 - 12:44
But just link that back to your homepage.
  • 12:44 - 12:47
So wherever people are on your
    website, they don't get lost.
  • 12:47 - 12:51
They can click on the top left, and
just always go back to your homepage.
  • 12:51 - 12:54
Now as we go down, you'll see that if
we really want to move things around,
  • 12:54 - 12:56
you'll see they have a space right here.
  • 12:56 - 12:59
They have you can choose where this
divider is, so you can move it over.
  • 12:59 - 13:05
So the way that Weebly works is not as much
like a click and drag in more like kind
  • 13:05 - 13:09
of a grid type system where you have a
block and you put in whatever you want.
  • 13:09 - 13:11
    So let's go over here.
  • 13:11 - 13:12
I'll show you exactly what I mean.
  • 13:15 - 13:18
So if we take another section, and we click
and we want we click and drag the section
  • 13:18 - 13:22
between these two, you'll get a
    nice blank section right there.
  • 13:22 - 13:26
You can choose if you want it to be like
a you can add a gallery or a contact menu,
  • 13:27 - 13:29
    a featured thing, a team
    thing, whatever you want.
  • 13:29 - 13:33
Or what I want to show you is
just how to go and add elements.
  • 13:33 - 13:37
So if we want a title at the top of this block,
see this little blue line at the top there,
  • 13:37 - 13:40
you can see it shows up, and
you're just going to just drop it,
  • 13:40 - 13:42
and it'll show up at the top
    of this block right here.
  • 13:42 - 13:44
So you can click and say, this is a new section.
  • 13:45 - 13:47
    [ Typing ]
  • 13:47 - 13:49
So now let's say we want to add some text.
  • 13:49 - 13:53
So if we click on text, and we drag it
down, again, it highlights all the sections.
  • 13:53 - 13:56
So you can see if we want to add
it to this section right here,
  • 13:56 - 13:58
you can see the blue line popping up above
  • 13:58 - 14:01
to the right I mean to the
    left, or below the title.
  • 14:01 - 14:03
So let's drop it right below the title there.
  • 14:03 - 14:05
And we'll have some text down below.
  • 14:05 - 14:07
So we can add some text, just
    whatever we want right there.
  • 14:07 - 14:09
A whole bunch of new text there.
  • 14:09 - 14:11
And let's say we want an image here as well.
  • 14:11 - 14:13
So if we go down, the next thing is image.
  • 14:13 - 14:14
    You can click and drag.
  • 14:14 - 14:18
Here you can see the image can go to
the left of that, to the right of that.
  • 14:18 - 14:23
So if we want it to be let's just say we
want it right between the two, right there.
  • 14:23 - 14:25
We want an image to pop up right there.
  • 14:25 - 14:26
And we can choose what image we want.
  • 14:26 - 14:30
We can upload an image, but you
can't really resize things that well.
  • 14:30 - 14:32
What you have to do is actually add a spacer.
  • 14:32 - 14:36
So if we want to do that, we can go down
and add a spacer as you see right here.
  • 14:37 - 14:38
And let's add it to the left of this image.
  • 14:39 - 14:40
    So there is a spacer.
  • 14:40 - 14:42
And this allows you to click and drag.
  • 14:42 - 14:43
And this is kind of how you resize things.
  • 14:43 - 14:47
So if we want the picture to be narrower,
we click and drag that to the right.
  • 14:47 - 14:51
It'll have an image in that corner
and then a nice blank space right here
  • 14:51 - 14:52
if that's what you're looking for.
  • 14:52 - 14:53
Now, if you say, you know what?
  • 14:53 - 14:55
I actually don't want a spacer right there.
  • 14:55 - 14:56
I'd rather have some text there.
  • 14:57 - 14:58
You can go and hover over the spacer,
  • 14:58 - 15:02
and click the red X button
right there, and then delete it.
  • 15:02 - 15:06
And this will go back to taking up the whole
spanning the whole width of the website there.
  • 15:06 - 15:11
Now, like I said, if instead you want
something else maybe you want a map right there
  • 15:11 - 15:13
or something, you can click and
drag and have that on the left,
  • 15:14 - 15:18
and then you'll have a small map to
the left of what you have right there.
  • 15:19 - 15:22
So as we continue down, you can
add a gallery or a slideshow.
  • 15:22 - 15:26
And when you do that you can actually
have different images from your computer.
  • 15:26 - 15:27
You can search for them in favorites.
  • 15:28 - 15:29
This actually looks a little bit archaic.
  • 15:29 - 15:31
That looks kind of like a '90s bar at the top.
  • 15:32 - 15:35
But uploading images works just fine for me.,
  • 15:35 - 15:37
Then like I showed you, you
can have a map right there.
  • 15:37 - 15:42
And you can actually adjust your map settings
to how far zoomed I, where it zoomed into.
  • 15:42 - 15:44
    So maybe like your business
address would be a good idea.
  • 15:45 - 15:49
And then you can have a more advanced location,
more advanced display if you want that.
  • 15:49 - 15:54
    So showing the marker; showing the scale;
map control, so zooming in and out.
  • 15:54 - 15:55
So it should be pretty interactive.
  • 15:55 - 15:56
Again, hosted by Google right there.
  • 15:56 - 15:58
Google Maps is what they're using.
  • 15:58 - 16:03
And it could be a great way for people to find
your restaurant, or whatever your, you know,
  • 16:03 - 16:06
    brick and mortar shop is,
people can find it like that.
  • 16:07 - 16:08
We can have a contact form.
  • 16:08 - 16:11
    I do recommend contact forms
    all the time pretty much.
  • 16:11 - 16:15
They're a great way to get leads,
or get feedback, or get emails,
  • 16:15 - 16:19
or you know it's a great way to get interaction
from people who are visiting your website.
  • 16:19 - 16:22
So if you click on it, you can view the entries.
  • 16:22 - 16:25
You can go to form options
and change what they type in.
  • 16:25 - 16:29
So you can have like email to,
    you can have confirmation message,
  • 16:29 - 16:32
you can have spacing, you can change the button.
  • 16:32 - 16:33
You get a lot of things.
  • 16:33 - 16:36
    You can change the fields,
you can change what they are.
  • 16:36 - 16:39
Again, and kind of the same layout here
where if you want anything on the left here,
  • 16:39 - 16:42
    if you want like checkboxes,
you just click and drag that.
  • 16:42 - 16:45
And you can put that like right
    up maybe right above email.
  • 16:45 - 16:47
So we go until we see the blue line.
  • 16:48 - 16:51
And from the blue line, we can
just drop that in right there,
  • 16:51 - 16:53
and you'll see that you have different options.
  • 16:53 - 16:57
So contact forms are very easy to
adjust, and you'll see all we do is go
  • 16:57 - 17:00
up to save and we have it right here.
  • 17:00 - 17:01
    That's our contact form.
  • 17:01 - 17:04
So it'll say right there, it'll
    automatically sync with promote.
  • 17:04 - 17:06
Let's not do that right now.
  • 17:06 - 17:07
    We can do that later.
  • 17:07 - 17:10
As we go down the left, again,
    we have newsletter form.
  • 17:10 - 17:11
    We've got buttons.
  • 17:11 - 17:14
Buttons are a big one because they're
    just essentially a small image
  • 17:14 - 17:16
    that just does something.
  • 17:16 - 17:20
So if we want to add it to maybe like
we want to add it like right down here.
  • 17:20 - 17:23
Let's say we want a button right
    below right above learn more.
  • 17:23 - 17:24
Let's get rid of learn more.
  • 17:24 - 17:25
Instead have a button right there.
  • 17:26 - 17:30
And so this button, we could have it
say we could have a say learn more.
  • 17:30 - 17:31
Button text could be learn more.
  • 17:32 - 17:34
    [ Typing ]
  • 17:35 - 17:37
Right. Maybe we want a button
    instead of this down here,
  • 17:37 - 17:39
which means we can just go and get rid of this.
  • 17:39 - 17:43
So you just hover over that, again, click on
the X, delete that little link text right there.
  • 17:44 - 17:49
And we'll have this button instead, and the
button can link out to maybe a blog post.
  • 17:49 - 17:53
And we don't actually have any blog posts
right now, but it would be right there.
  • 17:53 - 17:54
That's how you link to a blog post.
  • 17:55 - 17:58
As we continue down you can
change a lot of stuff with here.
  • 17:58 - 18:02
So here you can see what they did is in
this section, they have three images.
  • 18:02 - 18:06
They have little dividers right here,
and you can move where the dividers are.
  • 18:06 - 18:08
So if you want one section to be
bigger than the other, you can do that.
  • 18:09 - 18:12
And then we have, just below there,
    a little title, another title,
  • 18:12 - 18:15
a little squiggly line, and then a button.
  • 18:15 - 18:17
So it's really easy to make
    this however you want.
  • 18:18 - 18:21
And one thing is you are limited to this
width, and you pretty much have to fill
  • 18:21 - 18:24
that with unless you go back
    and add more spacers.
  • 18:24 - 18:27
As I showed you here, sections
    are the whole area.
  • 18:27 - 18:29
    Dividers will make these
    little things like that.
  • 18:29 - 18:34
And then spacers will essentially be like if
you want a blank space between different things.
  • 18:35 - 18:37
You can add different media, so HD video.
  • 18:37 - 18:39
    So you can add audio.
  • 18:39 - 18:44
You can add whatever a document, a YouTube
video flash, or you can add a file.
  • 18:44 - 18:48
And then also, you can go down and e
commerce stuff if you want to have a store,
  • 18:48 - 18:50
or if you want to have some different things.
  • 18:50 - 18:52
So let's go and check out another page.
  • 18:52 - 18:54
Let's make a new page right here.
  • 18:54 - 18:56
We're going to make this a product page.
  • 18:57 - 18:59
And we're going to add products to our store.
  • 19:00 - 19:01
And so we can do whatever we want.
  • 19:01 - 19:04
If we want to call this like product number one.
  • 19:04 - 19:08
So let's add an item right here.
  • 19:08 - 19:09
It kind of walks you through it.
  • 19:09 - 19:11
So we can say product [typing] number one.
  • 19:12 - 19:16
[Typing] we can make it -
price is like $2 or something.
  • 19:16 - 19:17
And then this is the product.
  • 19:18 - 19:21
    [ Typing ]
  • 19:21 - 19:24
And so we can just choose
a lot of things about this.
  • 19:24 - 19:26
And like I said, I'll show
you more of this later on.
  • 19:26 - 19:28
But for now, we're just going to add that just
  • 19:28 - 19:31
so I can show you guys how to
    do that very, very quickly.
  • 19:31 - 19:34
So we are pretty much good
    with this item right here.
  • 19:34 - 19:38
So then if you just go up to overview and
click on edit website, it'll bring you back
  • 19:38 - 19:39
to where you were with your website.
  • 19:39 - 19:43
So the build tab, and we were
    scrolling down the left side.
  • 19:43 - 19:44
So left side we go down.
  • 19:44 - 19:45
    We went through structure.
  • 19:45 - 19:46
    We went through media.
  • 19:46 - 19:48
I just mentioned e commerce a little bit.
  • 19:48 - 19:50
I don't want to talk about that too much
  • 19:50 - 19:53
    because that will be another
    video like I mentioned before.
  • 19:53 - 19:55
I can show you how to set
    up e commerce with this.
  • 19:55 - 19:58
But essentially, you'll just be clicking
and dragging that over and adding products.
  • 19:58 - 20:00
It walks you through that fairly easily.
  • 20:00 - 20:02
Then you can add a search box.
  • 20:02 - 20:05
If we want a search box I don't
    know, pretty much anywhere.
  • 20:05 - 20:08
So if we just want it like on our title
right here let's say we want a search box,
  • 20:08 - 20:11
we can add that right there so
people can search on our website.
  • 20:12 - 20:13
I really don't recommend search boxes.
  • 20:13 - 20:17
It's something that you saw a
lot maybe five or ten years ago.
  • 20:17 - 20:22
But people are removing them now because with
Google as the primary directory to getting
  • 20:22 - 20:25
    to websites, people tend to
end up at the page they want.
  • 20:25 - 20:28
And typically, your search bar will
not perform as well as you want
  • 20:28 - 20:31
    and may cause more problems
    than it actually solves.
  • 20:31 - 20:35
So I recommend just making a very easy
navigation instead of using a search bar.
  • 20:36 - 20:39
Now let's go down and - how about
we want to add something else.
  • 20:39 - 20:40
Let's check out a block quote.
  • 20:40 - 20:44
So a block quote, if we want to add that
above these three, you can see right there -
  • 20:44 - 20:48
block quote is pretty much what we saw like
I believe that might be a block quote there.
  • 20:48 - 20:51
And it's pretty easy to just
    add whatever you want.
  • 20:51 - 20:53
It's really no different than any other text.
  • 20:53 - 20:55
It's just italic and already centered.
  • 20:55 - 20:57
    So sometimes convenient.
  • 20:57 - 21:00
And you can add surveys; you can
add Google Adsense, stuff like that.
  • 21:01 - 21:05
Google Adsense, if we want to slap
an ad in maybe like right there.
  • 21:05 - 21:08
You can authorize it and you can
    add, you know, different things.
  • 21:08 - 21:11
Make sure you're signed up and
    registered for Google AdSense.
  • 21:11 - 21:16
But it's a way to monetize your website, and
it's a really easy way Weebly makes for you
  • 21:16 - 21:23
to just throw ads in there and make it very
easy to use Google AdSense on your website.
  • 21:23 - 21:25
Then we can also add like a cookie opt out.
  • 21:25 - 21:29
So if you're tracking, you can add it right
there, and people can opt out of your cookies
  • 21:29 - 21:32
if you're tracking them with like
a pixel or something like that.
  • 21:32 - 21:37
And then also, we can go down and change
    things like adding different apps.
  • 21:37 - 21:40
Now there's already one app here because
this is a template that we're using,
  • 21:40 - 21:43
and obviously they have it set up for that.
  • 21:43 - 21:46
The next thing that I didn't mention yet
is actually checking out the blog page.
  • 21:46 - 21:50
So if we go to blog, it is pretty
    straightforward, very easy to do.
  • 21:50 - 21:53
So what you'll see here is they have
    some authors, archives, categories.
  • 21:53 - 21:56
    You can change the layout
    of your main blog page.
  • 21:56 - 21:59
But if you don't have any posts,
obviously nothing will show up here.
  • 21:59 - 22:01
    So on the bottom, you'll
    see a little blue button
  • 22:01 - 22:03
on the bottom right, and it says new post.
  • 22:03 - 22:06
Click on that and this is
how you create a new post.
  • 22:06 - 22:07
And it should be pretty straightforward.
  • 22:07 - 22:10
Again, kind of the same tools we saw before.
  • 22:10 - 22:15
We can change like the post title
could be, how to [typing] sorry.
  • 22:15 - 22:16
    I can't type right now.
  • 22:16 - 22:19
    How to use Weebly.
  • 22:20 - 22:22
    [Typing]. And then here you
    can start dragging elements.
  • 22:22 - 22:26
So if we want like some text right
there, you can add that, and you have a -
  • 22:26 - 22:28
so a very straightforward website builder.
  • 22:28 - 22:30
Honestly, it's going to be just
like the rest of building a page.
  • 22:31 - 22:32
But you're just building a blog post.
  • 22:32 - 22:34
So you can add an image right there.
  • 22:34 - 22:38
And then maybe below that, if you want to
add some more text, you can put that there,
  • 22:38 - 22:40
if you want the image to be
    next to some other texts,
  • 22:41 - 22:42
going just put the text to the left of it.
  • 22:43 - 22:46
And you'll see that, again, it's
very easy to build your blog
  • 22:46 - 22:48
and make things look really good.
  • 22:48 - 22:51
And you can have comments on there.
  • 22:51 - 22:52
You can show us the date.
  • 22:52 - 22:56
And so that's pretty much everything
you need to know about building a blog.
  • 22:56 - 23:00
And you can go to the top right and you
can post it, or you can discard the draft.
  • 23:00 - 23:01
You can save it of course.
  • 23:01 - 23:04
I'm just going to post it and publish this,
  • 23:04 - 23:08
and now you do have a blog post well I have
a blog post out there on how to use Weebly.
  • 23:09 - 23:13
As you can see, it's like ten letters
long I guess, but you get the idea
  • 23:13 - 23:15
of how you're actually going to be doing this.
  • 23:15 - 23:19
So you can see right here that you can actually
share your posts then, and you can share it
  • 23:19 - 23:20
on Twitter, whatever you want to do.
  • 23:20 - 23:22
I'm not going to do any of that right now.
  • 23:22 - 23:26
But then your post will pop up right
here, back on the main blog page.
  • 23:26 - 23:30
So if we click on that, it does give
you it brings you into the blog post,
  • 23:30 - 23:31
and you can edit it if you need to.
  • 23:31 - 23:35
And you can go and update the blog post
meaning like republish it, and let it you know,
  • 23:35 - 23:38
Google will re find it again, and
people will start seeing the new one.
  • 23:38 - 23:42
And so when you're getting started, those are
really all the tools you need to add content
  • 23:42 - 23:45
    to your website, but it's
definitely not all you need to know.
  • 23:45 - 23:48
The next thing that I recommend doing is
actually going up right here and clicking
  • 23:48 - 23:53
on this, the device switcher, and you
can actually switch to mobile view.
  • 23:53 - 23:57
And I highly recommend this, that everyone
should do this as much as possible to make sure
  • 23:57 - 24:00
that your website actually still looks good.
  • 24:00 - 24:01
So you can see that things are moving around.
  • 24:01 - 24:04
Now the map is up here, and
    we don't have our spacers
  • 24:04 - 24:07
in the same place, and things
    just look different.
  • 24:07 - 24:11
And so it's really important that you go and
check this out because a very large portion
  • 24:11 - 24:14
    of your traffic will actually
    come from mobile devices.
  • 24:14 - 24:19
So people use their phones as much
or more than they use their laptop.
  • 24:19 - 24:21
I mean, comment right now if
you're watching this on your phone.
  • 24:21 - 24:25
    I think there's a pretty good chance that a
lot of people are watching this on a phone.
  • 24:25 - 24:30
And if not, I'm sure lots of people will be
visiting your website, regardless, on a phone.
  • 24:30 - 24:34
So definitely go check that out and make sure
that your website looks normal with this.
  • 24:34 - 24:38
And if it doesn't, you can always go and
read you know, just revise it a little bit.
  • 24:38 - 24:40
Go back to desktop mode, move things around.
  • 24:40 - 24:46
One kind of drawback with Weebly is that they
don't have the best mobile editor right there.
  • 24:46 - 24:49
So if you're trying to edit how it looks
in mobile, most of that you'll be doing
  • 24:49 - 24:51
over here in the desktop version.
  • 24:51 - 24:54
    Just one small drawback, but
it's pretty easy to work around.
  • 24:54 - 24:58
And for the most part, I find they do a good
job because they're kind of a block layout here,
  • 24:58 - 25:03
instead of a random drag and drop, I
find that they make it pretty easy,
  • 25:03 - 25:08
and they generally do a good job of translating
from the desktop version to the mobile version.
  • 25:08 - 25:11
And so that's pretty much everything
that you really need to know here.
  • 25:12 - 25:14
Then if we go down to the
bottom right, you'll see this is
  • 25:14 - 25:16
where you can go and find some different tips.
  • 25:16 - 25:19
You can learn about adding an element
    right there, removing an element.
  • 25:19 - 25:21
I showed you all of that in this video.
  • 25:21 - 25:24
But if you need reminders, it is nice
that they have that right down there.
  • 25:24 - 25:28
And then the last thing you'd want to do is
go up to the top right and click on publish.
  • 25:28 - 25:30
And you can publish your website.
  • 25:30 - 25:33
It will be available out there
at the domain that I showed you.
  • 25:33 - 25:37
So next I want to talk about how you
should manage and optimize your website.
  • 25:37 - 25:41
So once you have all the information on
there, go up to the top left, click the X,
  • 25:41 - 25:45
and you'll see this will bring you to
your Weebly kind of dashboard right here.
  • 25:45 - 25:47
They have a setup guide and walk
    you through some basic stuff.
  • 25:48 - 25:49
We're not going to look at that right now.
  • 25:49 - 25:53
But you'll see that it does give you some
information" how many sales you made,
  • 25:53 - 25:55
    how many page views, how
    many unique visits you have.
  • 25:56 - 25:58
    And then the setup guide,
    like I mentioned before,
  • 25:58 - 26:02
is down here for like connecting your domain,
setting up like shipping and tax and stuff
  • 26:02 - 26:05
    like that if you're selling
    things; publishing your website,
  • 26:05 - 26:07
and they walk you through a
    couple of different things.
  • 26:07 - 26:10
Then on the left, it does get
a little bit noisy over here.
  • 26:10 - 26:15
As you can see, you can go down and have
different options for like messenger or pop ups.
  • 26:16 - 26:18
So if we want pop ups, we
can go and click on that.
  • 26:18 - 26:23
And again, this is all a little bit more
advanced stuff, but it's a good way to,
  • 26:23 - 26:26
you know, have a pop up, to have
    an email campaign for example.
  • 26:26 - 26:29
So you can have it pop up, have people
sign up for your email campaigns.
  • 26:29 - 26:30
    You can offer discounts.
  • 26:30 - 26:31
    You can make an announcement.
  • 26:31 - 26:36
If you just changed your website or if it's
under construction, it might be good to do that.
  • 26:36 - 26:40
Or it could be like I don't know if you're
maybe like a liquor store or something,
  • 26:40 - 26:44
having a pop up to verify the age of
a visitor to make sure that they're
  • 26:44 - 26:47
like over 21 or whatever they need to be.
  • 26:47 - 26:50
So let's go and check out
    maybe build an announcement.
  • 26:50 - 26:52
I'm not actually going to go
through all of this right now.
  • 26:52 - 26:54
But you'll see that they do
    have some different layouts.
  • 26:54 - 26:57
So you can have like when
    somebody gets to homepage,
  • 26:57 - 26:59
maybe after some amount of time, it'll pop up.
  • 26:59 - 27:00
    And it'll say like, hey.
  • 27:00 - 27:01
    We've got some special offers.
  • 27:01 - 27:04
Or hey, our website is under construction.
  • 27:04 - 27:06
And you can see what it looks like on mobile.
  • 27:06 - 27:08
And again, you can see what
    it looks like on desktop.
  • 27:08 - 27:10
You can change the settings for it.
  • 27:10 - 27:12
You can change the frequency of
it, like every time they visit.
  • 27:13 - 27:16
Or it could be like once a day, once
every three days, different options here.
  • 27:16 - 27:18
And it's all really cool you can do that.
  • 27:18 - 27:21
So let's say - I'm not going to save
that draft, not going to add that.
  • 27:21 - 27:26
But it's something that you definitely want to
check out and consider doing on your website.
  • 27:27 - 27:28
    We go to messenger.
  • 27:28 - 27:29
You can set up Facebook Messenger.
  • 27:29 - 27:31
I'm not going to do that in this video.
  • 27:31 - 27:36
If we go to items, you can see like an item
    library, categories, reviews, gift cards.
  • 27:36 - 27:38
This is more like store based stuff.
  • 27:38 - 27:41
So gift cards or coupons maybe could
be something that you use right there.
  • 27:42 - 27:44
Marketing gets into some more advanced stuff.
  • 27:44 - 27:48
So if you want to run ads, or have
a mailing list, or have, you know,
  • 27:48 - 27:50
pretty much any of this stuff
let's go to overview right here.
  • 27:51 - 27:54
Not every website is really going to
concern themselves that much was marketing.
  • 27:54 - 27:58
It obviously is very important, but specifically
more important if you're doing things
  • 27:58 - 28:00
like an online store, for example.
  • 28:00 - 28:05
But obviously, if you're doing something like
just a personal portfolio, or a wedding website,
  • 28:05 - 28:10
or a website for, you know, basic, casual
stuff like that, and you're not trying
  • 28:10 - 28:14
to just grow an audience with that, maybe
marketing won't be as important for you.
  • 28:14 - 28:16
So again, down here, they have some suggestions.
  • 28:16 - 28:19
    You can add different pop
    ups and things like that.
  • 28:20 - 28:21
It's all a little bit less important.
  • 28:21 - 28:25
You can go down to insights and
see the overview for your traffic.
  • 28:25 - 28:27
Maybe this is an okay tool.
  • 28:27 - 28:30
I wouldn't say it's the best tool out
there to see how well you upside doing.
  • 28:31 - 28:35
I typically use something like [inaudible],
or a lot of the Google tools out there
  • 28:35 - 28:36
with their analytics that can really help
  • 28:36 - 28:41
to track your website a little bit
    more compared to other websites.
  • 28:41 - 28:45
But for basic comparisons and for basic
understanding of what works and doesn't work
  • 28:45 - 28:49
and what blog posts work and don't
work, it's not bad to do this.
  • 28:49 - 28:52
So, guys, I think that's pretty much
everything I have to show you in this video
  • 28:52 - 28:54
about starting your first Weebly website.
  • 28:54 - 28:58
    Obviously, when you get started,
the biggest thing is not going to be
  • 28:58 - 29:02
to know every single detail about
Weebly, it's really going to be doing it.
  • 29:02 - 29:05
So like at the end of this video,
go out there, start your website,
  • 29:05 - 29:08
    and just start adding information
    to it, start building it.
  • 29:08 - 29:13
And publish your website so you have a website
out there because the best way to succeed
  • 29:13 - 29:16
on the internet is to be on the internet.
  • 29:16 - 29:21
So you know, sitting back from a recliner and
watching lots of videos and thinking about it,
  • 29:21 - 29:24
    and watching other websites
    grow is great, but eventually,
  • 29:24 - 29:27
you just have to take the next
    step and build your website.
  • 29:27 - 29:29
And I hoped this video helped you to do that.
  • 29:29 - 29:33
I wish you success with your online website
and whatever ventures you're doing out there.
  • 29:33 - 29:34
    Good luck, guys.
  • 29:34 - 29:35
    Thank you all for watching.
  • 29:35 - 29:36
I'll see you in the next one.
  • 29:37 - 29:49
