Top 10 Nintendo Gamecube Games

  • 0:06 - 0:09
These were the best games to play on your
    purple lunchbox.
  • 0:09 - 0:12
Welcome, to WatchMojo.com, and today we're
counting down our picks for the top ten
  • 0:12 - 0:17
    Nintendo GameCube games.
Joe: Henshin a go go, baby!
  • 0:18 - 0:21
For this list, we're sticking to one game
per franchise, and we're also excluding
  • 0:21 - 0:24
games that were direct ports from other
    consoles.
  • 0:34 - 0:38
Number 10: Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2:
    Rogue Leader.
  • 0:38 - 0:42
For the second Nintendo list in a row,
the Rogue Squadron series has taken the
  • 0:42 - 0:46
10th spot. This game was a launch title
for the system, but it's main selling
  • 0:46 - 0:50
point being the faithful recreation of
    the original Star Wars trilogy's
  • 0:50 - 0:54
climactic battles against both Death Stars
    and the Battle of Hoth.
  • 1:02 - 1:06
Surprisingly, the game was put together in
only 9 months, and it was later repackaged
  • 1:06 - 1:10
in Rogue Squadron 3 as a co-op campaign.
  • 1:17 - 1:21
    Number 9: F-Zero GX.
  • 1:23 - 1:27
Without question, the best title in F-Zero
series, this high speed racing game has
  • 1:27 - 1:32
you clock speeds of up to 1600 kilometers
per hour, while going up against 30 other
  • 1:32 - 1:37
racers. Add to that, the incredible
    sensory overload of the environment
  • 1:37 - 1:41
around the track, for a more immersive
    experience.
  • 1:44 - 1:46
Fun fact: In 2013, it was
  • 1:46 - 1:50
discovered that the arcade AX version was
hidden on the game's disk, and obtainable
  • 1:50 - 1:54
    via a hacking device.
  • 1:58 - 2:00
    Number 8: Pikmin 2.
  • 2:00 - 2:04
Pikmin 2, as you might have guessed, is
the sequel to the unusually charming
  • 2:04 - 2:08
real-time strategy game, that bears the
same name. While the first one was limited
  • 2:08 - 2:12
by a 30 day timer, this game had no such
    time limit.
  • 2:17 - 2:21
This extra time was used to focus on the
efforts of Captain Olimar and his
  • 2:21 - 2:25
    assistant, Louis, collecting treasures to
help their boss pay off a massive debt.
  • 2:25 - 2:26
    It notably brought to the
  • 2:26 - 2:30
mix an addictive co-op and competitive
    multiplayer mode.
  • 2:35 - 2:37
    Number 7: Super Mario Sunshine.
  • 2:37 - 2:41
One of the most unusual Mario titles, it
doesn't stop it from being a fantastic
  • 2:41 - 2:45
    platformer,
set on the tropical Isle Delfino.
  • 2:49 - 2:51
    Here in, Mario finds himself
  • 2:51 - 2:55
armed with a water gun jetpack, that he
uses both against enemies, for navigation,
  • 2:55 - 2:59
and for cleaning up the island.
  • 3:00 - 3:02
    One of the
better aspects of the game was the moving
  • 3:02 - 3:06
    geometric platform sections, something
that Nintendo would later use in Super
  • 3:06 - 3:08
    Mario Galaxy.
  • 3:14 - 3:18
    Number 6: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's
    Requiem.
  • 3:18 - 3:22
The first M-rated game published by
Nintendo, this game has you play as Alex,
  • 3:22 - 3:25
who comes to her Grandfather's house to
    investigate his murder.
  • 3:27 - 3:31
And in the process, finds out about a
historical struggle against evil, to stop
  • 3:31 - 3:35
what is known as the Eternal Darkness. The
    game's main draw was
  • 3:35 - 3:37
    it's fourth wall breaking
  • 3:37 - 3:39
effects that messed with your mind.
  • 3:42 - 3:45
And start to distort what was real, and
    what's not.
  • 3:50 - 3:53
It's safe to say, that whoever
says that Nintendo was just for kids,
  • 3:53 - 3:54
    never played this one.
  • 4:00 - 4:02
    Number 5: Animal Crossing.
  • 4:02 - 4:06
The debut title in the frighteningly
addictive series, this game has you living
  • 4:06 - 4:10
out in a small village with overly happy
    anthropomorphic villagers as you go
  • 4:10 - 4:14
    fishing, catch bugs, and collect
furniture that falls out of the sky.
  • 4:17 - 4:21
    It also features a Tanukichi
who constantly scams you into mortgage.
  • 4:26 - 4:30
Yeah, screw you, Tom Nook. One of the
coolest features that didn't reappear in
  • 4:30 - 4:35
any of the sequels was the ability to
collect and play classic NES games for a
  • 4:35 - 4:37
    sweet little bit of nostalgia.
  • 4:42 - 4:46
Number 4: Super Smash Brothers: Melee.
  • 4:47 - 4:51
The best selling game on the system,
Melee was the game that no GameCube owner
  • 4:51 - 4:55
    could go without.
  • 4:57 - 5:01
A vast improvement over the N64 original,
it introduced faster gameplay, doubled its
  • 5:01 - 5:06
    roster of iconic characters, and
    introduced new multiplayer modes, making
  • 5:06 - 5:08
this the party game of choice.
  • 5:15 - 5:18
Three: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
  • 5:18 - 5:22
Even though Twilight Princess was amazing,
Wind Waker completely trumps it based on
  • 5:22 - 5:24
    originality.
  • 5:29 - 5:33
    An epic sailing adventure,
    with incredibly charming characters; it
  • 5:33 - 5:37
was a fantastic follow up to Ocarina of
Time, the controversial choice to use
  • 5:37 - 5:41
cel-shaded graphics proved to be the best
choice in the long run, as it meant that
  • 5:41 - 5:45
the game would age surprisingly well. Want
proof? With only a few minor tweaks on the
  • 5:45 - 5:49
Wii U version, it's still the same game,
yet still as amazing as ever.
  • 5:55 - 5:59
    Number 2: Resident Evil 4/Biohazard 4
  • 6:06 - 6:09
As much as we love the fantastic remake of
the original, the fourth game in the
  • 6:09 - 6:12
series is in a league of it's own.
  • 6:18 - 6:20
Starting life as a GameCube exclusive, a
  • 6:20 - 6:24
drastic and risky redesign of the core
    mechanics, paid off immensely,
  • 6:24 - 6:28
removing both the zombies and the static
camera in favor of infected villagers, and
  • 6:28 - 6:33
a third person perspective, resulted in an
    intense, frightening, epic atmosphere that
  • 6:33 - 6:37
made it one of the best third person
    shooters ever.
  • 6:42 - 6:45
Before we get to number one, here are a
    few honorable mentions.
  • 7:13 - 7:15
    Number One: Metroid Prime.
  • 7:15 - 7:20
Samus rolls into our top spot with her
best adventure to date. After missing out
  • 7:20 - 7:25
on the N64, Retro Studios made the bounty
    hunter's transition to 3D flawless.
  • 7:25 - 7:29
Going for a first person perspective,
    which intensified the combat without
  • 7:29 - 7:32
sacrificing any of the series' trademark
    exploration.
  • 7:36 - 7:39
While technically not a first person
shooter in the traditional sense, the
  • 7:39 - 7:43
    isolated environment makes this game
a must play for anyone and everyone.
  • 7:57 - 8:01
Do you agree with our list?
    Gray Fox: "No.. I can't.."
