Lost and Found: The Prodigal Son Story from Luke 15 in the Bible
-
0:03 - 0:06How did I get here?
-
0:06 - 0:08The young man took a long look at his life.
-
0:08 - 0:14He was penniless, homeless, filthy, and starving.
-
0:14 - 0:20You would never know that he had once lived under the loving care of his wealthy father.
-
0:20 - 0:25But he had left home, cut off his relationship with his father, squandered his inheritance
-
0:25 - 0:30on a life of sin, and ended up in this pitiful state.
-
0:30 - 0:33He finally came to his senses, and a deep feeling welled up in him:
-
0:33 - 0:36I need to go back to my father.
-
0:36 - 0:38But he was so ashamed.
-
0:38 - 0:44After all he had done, he wondered whether his father would even want him as a son anymore.
-
0:44 - 0:50In desperation, he decided he would return home and ask to be a servant.
-
0:50 - 0:54He was unaware of the depth of his father's love.
-
0:54 - 0:57Little did he know that his father had been longing for him,
-
0:57 - 1:00waiting and watching for the day he would return.
-
1:01 - 1:04As the young man made his way home, his father spotted him,
-
1:04 - 1:07even when he was still a long way off,
-
1:07 - 1:12and ran to him, embraced him, and kissed him affectionately.
-
1:12 - 1:18Filthy and ragged, the repentant young man confessed to his father his sinful life,
-
1:18 - 1:21telling him that he was no longer worthy to be his son.
-
1:21 - 1:25But his father responded by first clothing him with the best robe
-
1:25 - 1:29and then sacrificing the fattened calf to feed him.
-
1:29 - 1:34With rejoicing, he called for a feast for all to celebrate the return of his son,
-
1:34 - 1:38whom he declared had been dead and now lived again,
-
1:38 - 1:41who had been lost and was now found.
-
1:45 - 1:49Like the son in this parable, each of us will eventually come to the realization
-
1:49 - 1:55that we are lost and need to be found by God, our real Father.
-
1:55 - 1:58We may feel too ashamed to come to God.
-
1:58 - 2:03But the Bible reveals His unchanging and infinite love for us.
-
2:03 - 2:07He longs for every prodigal to come back to Himself.
-
2:07 - 2:11In God's eyes, to be lost is actually to be dead in sins,
-
2:11 - 2:17and to be found is to be saved and made alive in Christ.
-
2:17 - 2:21If we return to God and repent of our sins, we will be cleansed
-
2:21 - 2:25and Christ will cover us like a robe of righteousness.
-
2:25 - 2:30Not only so, like the fattened calf, Christ who was sacrificed for us
-
2:30 - 2:34will also fill and satisfy us inwardly,
-
2:34 - 2:41becoming a rich feast for us to enjoy as sons in the household of our Father God.
-
2:42 - 2:47Our loving and forgiving Father is waiting for us to come to Him.
-
2:47 - 2:50We can do this by praying this simple prayer:
-
2:51 - 2:55"Dear Father, I'm lost and need to be found!
-
2:55 - 2:58I am dead in my sins!
-
2:58 - 3:02Come into my spirit and make me alive in Christ as a son of God!
-
3:02 - 3:08Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for me so that You could cleanse me, cover me,
-
3:08 - 3:14satisfy my hunger, and qualify me to feast with the Father in His house.
-
3:14 - 3:15Amen."

In God’s eyes, to be lost is to be dead in sins, and to be found is to be saved and made alive in Christ.
The Bible contains a wonderful story about a father’s unchanging love for his wayward son. This story, told by the Lord Jesus in Luke 15, depicts God’s unchanging love toward all of us lost sinners who have strayed far from Him. He yearns for each of us to come back to Him to be made alive in Christ the Savior.
