Not Synced
The jeep bumps along the road
as Kenyan church leaders
-
Not Synced
make their way to visit
a Global Mission pioneer.
-
Not Synced
Driving across Kenya
can be a beautiful journey.
-
Not Synced
The wildlife, the people,
and the landscape
-
Not Synced
all contribute
to a fascinating experience,
-
Not Synced
although there’s always a chance
of running into a problem.
-
Not Synced
But the best part of this journey
-
Not Synced
is meeting people like
Pioneer Linus [Lee-nus].
-
Not Synced
He prayed for God to use him
and was assigned to work in a town
-
Not Synced
where there were no Adventists.
-
Not Synced
In time, Linus helped start
a small congregation of believers
-
Not Synced
who are now in the process
of constructing a church of their own!
-
Not Synced
Everyone takes part in the construction,
eager to see the building finished.
-
Not Synced
Today’s visit with local church leaders
-
Not Synced
includes a Bible study
and member testimonies.
-
Not Synced
David is a dedicated church member
-
Not Synced
who was part of the Mau Mau
Uprising decades ago.
-
Not Synced
Between 1952 and 1964,
-
Not Synced
there was conflict between the British
and a group of Kenyans.
-
Not Synced
Before he became an Adventist,
David fought in this conflict.
-
Not Synced
As he recalls that time,
many negative memories resurface,
-
Not Synced
but he has since found hope in Jesus.
-
Not Synced
He shares how God transformed him
and brought peace into his life.
-
Not Synced
Pioneer Linus studied with him
-
Not Synced
and welcomed him
into the budding congregation.
-
Not Synced
Other members share both the burdens
and the joys in their lives.
-
Not Synced
As they close the meeting,
-
Not Synced
they pray for God to use
each person in the room for His glory.
-
Not Synced
The church’s central location in town
makes it easy for people
-
Not Synced
to see what the church is about.
-
Not Synced
“Our church here
is in the middle of the community.
-
Not Synced
If you look around, it’s surrounded
by houses where people live.
-
Not Synced
The idea why we thought
we would have a church here is
-
Not Synced
because all the people
who are around here
-
Not Synced
would associate with the church.
-
Not Synced
I know it will bear some fruits.”
-
Not Synced
As the church was being built,
one neighbor named Karumera
-
Not Synced
saw the congregation’s
construction challenges
-
Not Synced
and offered to store equipment
in her home to keep it safe.
-
Not Synced
She’s happy to help her
Adventist neighbors.
-
Not Synced
She soon became friends
with pioneer Linus
-
Not Synced
and has started Bible studies with him.
-
Not Synced
During their visit,
-
Not Synced
the Kenyan church leaders
get to know the other community members.
-
Not Synced
The neighbors share
that they like getting to know
-
Not Synced
their Adventist neighbors,
-
Not Synced
and some would like to visit
the church on a future Sabbath.
-
Not Synced
Let’s pray for this small
congregation in Kenya.
-
Not Synced
Pray that their example reflects
Jesus to their community.
-
Not Synced
As Global Mission pioneers around
the world continue planting churches,
-
Not Synced
let’s also pray
for the challenges they may face.
-
Not Synced
Thank you for supporting Global Mission,
making testimonies like these possible.
