Okay, that was funny.

- People are so creative with this stuff.

And it just makes it that much better,

because people all come together
to create these crazy videos.

- (nervously) I'm just bracing myself.

I don't know what's gonna happen.

the Tank Engine theme) ♪

- (perplexed) What the--

- You guys have ruined Harry Potter.

♪ (blaring music continues) ♪

- Fake-smiling through the pain,
through the ear pain.

- Can I take these off?

- I watch those on my free time.

It's my type of humor.

- I'm so confused though.
Like, what is the point of all this?

♪ (punk rock music) ♪

- (Finebros) So did you enjoy
going through that experience?

- (chuckling) No.

- No, not at all.

You're expecting something funny,

but instead you get something annoying.

- I was confused majority of the time.

It was funny though. Were those vines?

- After a while, I got
used to it a little bit kind of.

But it's just, oh my god.

- Absolutely. No idea why though.

- I actually did enjoy that.
I love those dank memes.

Can't get enough of 'em.

- I thoroughly enjoyed that experience,

not even kind enjoyed it.
But I was having a good time.

- Wow, so calm, so peaceful, so tranquil.

And then...
(BOOM!!!)

all fall under a popular meme

called "R.I.P. Headphone Users."

- Ohh! That makes sense.

I've seen that in the comments
of a lot of YouTube videos.

- (Finebros) Are you familiar
with this term?

- Nope, not at all.

- I'm very familiar with the term.

In many comments, it's,

"RIP headphone users
at this point in time."

- I've seen these type of videos
on YouTube and Tumblr

and Vine and Instagram
and Twitter, just everywhere.

- I see them on Vine a lot.

They'll be on Twitter too and Instagram.

I do it on my free time all the time.

That's my favorite type of stuff.

- They'll start as innocent
as like someone was editing

and didn't balance the audio.

But now it's just trolls being trolls.

And it's probably silent at 22 seconds.

Like, "Hey, push your thing down."

Everyone's like, "Is my computer working?"

- (Finebros) Some say that this began

when people posted videos online

with excessively loud audio tracks,

not even necessarily on purpose.

And then users would leave the comment

with "R.I.P. headphone users"

at that time code of where it happened.

- Oh yeah, I've seen that.

- It's kind of like a warning
for those people.

Or it's kind of like
making fun of the people

who actually had to go through it.

- Yeah, that's what I do
pretty much when I scream,

when I play horror games here
and I just start screaming.

I'm like, "Oh god, whoever's
using headphones I'm so sorry."

- (Finebros) So people are now
making videos purposely

to do this to people.

There are multiple users that
have channels completely dedicated

to "R.I.P. headphone user"
videos and compilations.

- See, I enjoyed it, so shit.
I'm in their demographic.

- It went from a safety comment to just,

"Hey, do you want to not hear
for the rest of your life?

Have this."

- (Finebros) Why do you think
people would decide

to make these types of videos?
- It might be funny.

Some people find mean things funny.

- Well, to get that money,
you know, and to get those views.

- If people are getting laughs at it.

Like, I get a good laugh at it.
Like, why not do it?

- It's entertaining to watch.

Now I kinda want to make them.
So (laughs) not gonna lie.

- To go with the flow,
whatever's trending.

There's always a new generation
of versions of tricking.

- Just to troll people, I guess.

- It is like a troll.

No one's expecting it,

and all of a sudden you go deaf
for a couple seconds.

- I feel like it's one of those videos

that you're meant to show your best friend

and then capture his reaction.

You're like, "Yo, yo, watch this video."

And then he puts his headphones in.

Be like, "Put the volume up, man.

You can't hear. He's
whispering." And then...

- (Finebros) Finally, why do you think

this is something that
people find so amusing

that it's become a whole trend?

- I just think it's so funny
to scare people.

- 'Cause you're part of something.

We all strive to have
that fulfilling feeling.

- When we had the Harlem Shake,

people just like when calm stuff--

when peacefulness turns
into utter pandemonium.

- They just become comedy,

and you just want to watch them
over and over again.

So I feel like the trend just keeps
going on to more people.

I honestly could spend
hours watching that.
