Stage 6 Practice Schedule (Guitar Lesson BC-169) Guitar for beginners Stage 6

  • 0:04 - 0:06
    Hi, how're you doing?
  • 0:06 - 0:09
Here we are, at the end of stage 6
  • 0:09 - 0:12
and we're now checking your stage 6 practice routine.
  • 0:12 - 0:15
So, what I would recommend for you
  • 0:15 - 0:17
is 2 minutes doing your finger workout.
  • 0:17 - 0:18
    We nearly throwed that
  • 0:18 - 0:19
and you're probably getting a bit bored of that
  • 0:19 - 0:22
we're all gonna be stretching it out a little bit more
  • 0:22 - 0:23
    in the very next stage.
  • 0:23 - 0:26
So, just a quick 2 minutes on that.
  • 0:26 - 0:27
    Just keeping them working out.
  • 0:27 - 0:31
And we're gonna have 3 minutes on that little basic picking exercise
  • 0:31 - 0:33
just working on getting the anchor down
  • 0:33 - 0:35
and picking your strings out one at the time.
  • 0:35 - 0:38
So, it's just like a little bit of technical work
  • 0:38 - 0:40
just trying to increase the flexibility of that hand
  • 0:40 - 0:42
and the accuracy of that hand.
  • 0:42 - 0:43
Both really important things to do.
  • 0:44 - 0:46
Thirdly, we've got your chord practice
  • 0:46 - 0:47
    That's still on board
  • 0:47 - 0:49
You'll be doing your strum, pick out, strum.
  • 0:50 - 0:51
Something that's gonna be with you
  • 0:51 - 0:53
right the way through this beginner's course
  • 0:53 - 0:54
    because this is really important
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    And as you learn
  • 0:55 - 0:56
anytime you learn a new chord
  • 0:56 - 0:58
you wanna be doing your strum, pick out, strum
  • 0:58 - 0:58
    because it really makes sense.
  • 0:58 - 1:01
So, 5 minutes on your strum, pick out, strum.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
You've then got your 1 minute changes
  • 1:03 - 1:05
which is dealing with the F chord
  • 1:05 - 1:08
so no matter which version of the F
  • 1:08 - 1:09
you've decided that you wanna play
  • 1:09 - 1:10
make sure you'll practice getting to it
  • 1:10 - 1:12
    and getting from it.
  • 1:12 - 1:13
So you'll be doing, you know,
  • 1:13 - 1:15
the ones that I've got suggested on the website
  • 1:15 - 1:15
    on the routine
  • 1:15 - 1:18
    are the F to C, F to E, F to D,
  • 1:18 - 1:20
    F to A minor and F to G.
  • 1:20 - 1:22
You don't have to stick to that
  • 1:22 - 1:23
you can pick whatever ones you want
  • 1:23 - 1:25
but I really would recommend working on that F chord
  • 1:25 - 1:27
trying to get it in under your fingers.
  • 1:27 - 1:28
    It is a "toughy"
  • 1:28 - 1:33
everyone has it, incidentally going back to your chord practice
  • 1:33 - 1:34
    That's the one
  • 1:34 - 1:36
you wanna be working on that F in that one
  • 1:36 - 1:38
probably more than any other chord.
  • 1:38 - 1:43
If quite possibly only working the F chord for that 5 minutes actually.
  • 1:43 - 1:45
Ekhm, I did escape my memory for a second
  • 1:45 - 1:46
that you had only F there...
  • 1:47 - 1:50
Next thing on your list is
  • 1:50 - 1:51
    the rythm guitar practice.
  • 1:51 - 1:54
And that one definitelly is now devoted to doing
  • 1:54 - 1:56
    your rust pattern 9
  • 1:56 - 1:57
which is the one with the 'tie'.
  • 1:57 - 1:59
So the things that you're focusing on
  • 1:59 - 2:01
is making sure that your hand doesn't stop moving at any point
  • 2:01 - 2:03
    that you're consistently doing the
  • 2:03 - 2:05
down, down, up, up, down, down...
  • 2:05 - 2:06
    and it goes
  • 2:06 - 2:07
    you know
  • 2:07 - 2:07
    should be a bit hipnotic.
  • 2:07 - 2:09
Just practice it over and over again.
  • 2:09 - 2:10
    I always practice it too
  • 2:10 - 2:12
    by holding the guitar strings
  • 2:12 - 2:14
    and just going (plays)
  • 2:14 - 2:16
    down, down, up, up, down
  • 2:16 - 2:17
Another little hint I just thought of,
  • 2:17 - 2:18
because I ran out of time the other one...
  • 2:18 - 2:21
Is to practice it without strumming the strings at all
  • 2:21 - 2:21
    just going
  • 2:21 - 2:23
    down, down, up, up, down
  • 2:23 - 2:26
    1, 2, and, and, 4
  • 2:26 - 2:29
because you know - hiting the strings it's a lot easier to keep your hand moving
  • 2:29 - 2:30
    consistently without...
  • 2:30 - 2:31
    because you're not kinda
  • 2:31 - 2:32
put off by the sound of the strings.
  • 2:32 - 2:33
    That's a little handy tip
  • 2:33 - 2:35
if any of you are struggling that one.
  • 2:35 - 2:37
    Next thing you've got
  • 2:37 - 2:39
    your songs and chord sequences.
  • 2:39 - 2:40
    So, you could...
  • 2:40 - 2:42
not a bad thing to do would be to
  • 2:42 - 2:45
if you feel comfort enough with your chord changes
  • 2:45 - 2:48
would be to start to trying apply now
  • 2:48 - 2:48
    that...
  • 2:48 - 2:50
    this chord sequence
  • 2:50 - 2:50
    the down...
  • 2:50 - 2:52
    the strumming pattern 9
  • 2:52 - 2:53
    onto a chord sequence.
  • 2:53 - 2:56
So, you may pick G, C, D, C or something
  • 2:56 - 2:58
whatever the chord progression you feel like
  • 2:58 - 3:01
and then trying to apply that strumming pattern
  • 3:01 - 3:03
and remembering to force the changes
  • 3:03 - 3:06
So, do not let strumming pattern stop
  • 3:06 - 3:07
    for any reason.
  • 3:07 - 3:09
    It must keep going
  • 3:09 - 3:12
and you force the fingers on your left hand
  • 3:12 - 3:14
(or, you know, your freting hand)
  • 3:14 - 3:18
to make the changes fast enough to not stop strumming.
  • 3:18 - 3:21
Do not, DO NOT practice going:
  • 3:21 - 3:23
    down, down, up, up, down
  • 3:23 - 3:24
    stop, change chord
  • 3:24 - 3:26
    down, down, up, up, down
  • 3:26 - 3:30
That is going against the whole idea of doing rythm.
  • 3:30 - 3:31
The rythm has to stay consistent,
  • 3:31 - 3:34
so please make sure you're practicing that the right way.
  • 3:34 - 3:36
It will make a huge difference
  • 3:36 - 3:39
to how quickly you feel confident and comfortable with your rhythm skills.
  • 3:40 - 3:43
Adding to that as well, we've got your Justin Ear Training
  • 3:43 - 3:45
if you're happened to be doing that course,
  • 3:45 - 3:47
which again I would recommend quite highly.
  • 3:48 - 3:50
Now, that whole little package again
  • 3:50 - 3:52
this is a half an hour routine
  • 3:52 - 3:53
    which is quite a lot.
  • 3:53 - 3:54
    If you're struggling with that,
  • 3:54 - 3:55
break it down into two 15 minutes
  • 3:55 - 3:58
and alternate between different days that you're practicing.
  • 3:58 - 3:59
    It doesn't really matter,
  • 3:59 - 4:00
you do the best that you can
  • 4:00 - 4:04
with the most time that you've got available.
  • 4:04 - 4:06
You know, lots of people have a busy life
  • 4:06 - 4:08
and it's difficult to fit in a half an hour a day
  • 4:08 - 4:10
just dedicated to a hobby like playing guitar.
  • 4:10 - 4:11
But if you can, do it.
  • 4:11 - 4:13
    You will reap the benefits.
  • 4:13 - 4:16
The more you practice, the better you'll get, the faster you'll get...
  • 4:16 - 4:18
the faster you get better, I should say.
  • 4:18 - 4:20
    So, have fun with that,
  • 4:20 - 4:21
    practise really hard,
  • 4:21 - 4:22
there is a lot going on on this one,
  • 4:22 - 4:24
this stage 6 is a big one
  • 4:24 - 4:27
because you've got the F chord
and you've got the 'tie' strumming patterns.
  • 4:27 - 4:28
The both are now big deal.
  • 4:28 - 4:30
We're gonna be working on those things
  • 4:30 - 4:32
little bit more at the next couple of stages as well.
  • 4:32 - 4:34
But this is an important little stage to make sure you get right.
  • 4:34 - 4:36
    So,have fun with that
  • 4:36 - 4:39
and when you feel like you're confident with all of these things
  • 4:39 - 4:41
then I see you for stage 7.
  • 4:41 - 4:43
Take care of yourselves, bye bye.
