Stage 6 Practice Schedule (Guitar Lesson BC-169) Guitar for beginners Stage 6
-
0:04 - 0:06Hi, how're you doing?
-
0:06 - 0:09Here we are, at the end of stage 6
-
0:09 - 0:12and we're now checking your stage 6 practice routine.
-
0:12 - 0:15So, what I would recommend for you
-
0:15 - 0:17is 2 minutes doing your finger workout.
-
0:17 - 0:18We nearly throwed that
-
0:18 - 0:19and you're probably getting a bit bored of that
-
0:19 - 0:22we're all gonna be stretching it out a little bit more
-
0:22 - 0:23in the very next stage.
-
0:23 - 0:26So, just a quick 2 minutes on that.
-
0:26 - 0:27Just keeping them working out.
-
0:27 - 0:31And we're gonna have 3 minutes on that little basic picking exercise
-
0:31 - 0:33just working on getting the anchor down
-
0:33 - 0:35and picking your strings out one at the time.
-
0:35 - 0:38So, it's just like a little bit of technical work
-
0:38 - 0:40just trying to increase the flexibility of that hand
-
0:40 - 0:42and the accuracy of that hand.
-
0:42 - 0:43Both really important things to do.
-
0:44 - 0:46Thirdly, we've got your chord practice
-
0:46 - 0:47That's still on board
-
0:47 - 0:49You'll be doing your strum, pick out, strum.
-
0:50 - 0:51Something that's gonna be with you
-
0:51 - 0:53right the way through this beginner's course
-
0:53 - 0:54because this is really important
-
0:54 - 0:55And as you learn
-
0:55 - 0:56anytime you learn a new chord
-
0:56 - 0:58you wanna be doing your strum, pick out, strum
-
0:58 - 0:58because it really makes sense.
-
0:58 - 1:01So, 5 minutes on your strum, pick out, strum.
-
1:01 - 1:03You've then got your 1 minute changes
-
1:03 - 1:05which is dealing with the F chord
-
1:05 - 1:08so no matter which version of the F
-
1:08 - 1:09you've decided that you wanna play
-
1:09 - 1:10make sure you'll practice getting to it
-
1:10 - 1:12and getting from it.
-
1:12 - 1:13So you'll be doing, you know,
-
1:13 - 1:15the ones that I've got suggested on the website
-
1:15 - 1:15on the routine
-
1:15 - 1:18are the F to C, F to E, F to D,
-
1:18 - 1:20F to A minor and F to G.
-
1:20 - 1:22You don't have to stick to that
-
1:22 - 1:23you can pick whatever ones you want
-
1:23 - 1:25but I really would recommend working on that F chord
-
1:25 - 1:27trying to get it in under your fingers.
-
1:27 - 1:28It is a "toughy"
-
1:28 - 1:33everyone has it, incidentally going back to your chord practice
-
1:33 - 1:34That's the one
-
1:34 - 1:36you wanna be working on that F in that one
-
1:36 - 1:38probably more than any other chord.
-
1:38 - 1:43If quite possibly only working the F chord for that 5 minutes actually.
-
1:43 - 1:45Ekhm, I did escape my memory for a second
-
1:45 - 1:46that you had only F there...
-
1:47 - 1:50Next thing on your list is
-
1:50 - 1:51the rythm guitar practice.
-
1:51 - 1:54And that one definitelly is now devoted to doing
-
1:54 - 1:56your rust pattern 9
-
1:56 - 1:57which is the one with the 'tie'.
-
1:57 - 1:59So the things that you're focusing on
-
1:59 - 2:01is making sure that your hand doesn't stop moving at any point
-
2:01 - 2:03that you're consistently doing the
-
2:03 - 2:05down, down, up, up, down, down...
-
2:05 - 2:06and it goes
-
2:06 - 2:07you know
-
2:07 - 2:07should be a bit hipnotic.
-
2:07 - 2:09Just practice it over and over again.
-
2:09 - 2:10I always practice it too
-
2:10 - 2:12by holding the guitar strings
-
2:12 - 2:14and just going (plays)
-
2:14 - 2:16down, down, up, up, down
-
2:16 - 2:17Another little hint I just thought of,
-
2:17 - 2:18because I ran out of time the other one...
-
2:18 - 2:21Is to practice it without strumming the strings at all
-
2:21 - 2:21just going
-
2:21 - 2:23down, down, up, up, down
-
2:23 - 2:261, 2, and, and, 4
-
2:26 - 2:29because you know - hiting the strings it's a lot easier to keep your hand moving
-
2:29 - 2:30consistently without...
-
2:30 - 2:31because you're not kinda
-
2:31 - 2:32put off by the sound of the strings.
-
2:32 - 2:33That's a little handy tip
-
2:33 - 2:35if any of you are struggling that one.
-
2:35 - 2:37Next thing you've got
-
2:37 - 2:39your songs and chord sequences.
-
2:39 - 2:40So, you could...
-
2:40 - 2:42not a bad thing to do would be to
-
2:42 - 2:45if you feel comfort enough with your chord changes
-
2:45 - 2:48would be to start to trying apply now
-
2:48 - 2:48that...
-
2:48 - 2:50this chord sequence
-
2:50 - 2:50the down...
-
2:50 - 2:52the strumming pattern 9
-
2:52 - 2:53onto a chord sequence.
-
2:53 - 2:56So, you may pick G, C, D, C or something
-
2:56 - 2:58whatever the chord progression you feel like
-
2:58 - 3:01and then trying to apply that strumming pattern
-
3:01 - 3:03and remembering to force the changes
-
3:03 - 3:06So, do not let strumming pattern stop
-
3:06 - 3:07for any reason.
-
3:07 - 3:09It must keep going
-
3:09 - 3:12and you force the fingers on your left hand
-
3:12 - 3:14(or, you know, your freting hand)
-
3:14 - 3:18to make the changes fast enough to not stop strumming.
-
3:18 - 3:21Do not, DO NOT practice going:
-
3:21 - 3:23down, down, up, up, down
-
3:23 - 3:24stop, change chord
-
3:24 - 3:26down, down, up, up, down
-
3:26 - 3:30That is going against the whole idea of doing rythm.
-
3:30 - 3:31The rythm has to stay consistent,
-
3:31 - 3:34so please make sure you're practicing that the right way.
-
3:34 - 3:36It will make a huge difference
-
3:36 - 3:39to how quickly you feel confident and comfortable with your rhythm skills.
-
3:40 - 3:43Adding to that as well, we've got your Justin Ear Training
-
3:43 - 3:45if you're happened to be doing that course,
-
3:45 - 3:47which again I would recommend quite highly.
-
3:48 - 3:50Now, that whole little package again
-
3:50 - 3:52this is a half an hour routine
-
3:52 - 3:53which is quite a lot.
-
3:53 - 3:54If you're struggling with that,
-
3:54 - 3:55break it down into two 15 minutes
-
3:55 - 3:58and alternate between different days that you're practicing.
-
3:58 - 3:59It doesn't really matter,
-
3:59 - 4:00you do the best that you can
-
4:00 - 4:04with the most time that you've got available.
-
4:04 - 4:06You know, lots of people have a busy life
-
4:06 - 4:08and it's difficult to fit in a half an hour a day
-
4:08 - 4:10just dedicated to a hobby like playing guitar.
-
4:10 - 4:11But if you can, do it.
-
4:11 - 4:13You will reap the benefits.
-
4:13 - 4:16The more you practice, the better you'll get, the faster you'll get...
-
4:16 - 4:18the faster you get better, I should say.
-
4:18 - 4:20So, have fun with that,
-
4:20 - 4:21practise really hard,
-
4:21 - 4:22there is a lot going on on this one,
-
4:22 - 4:24this stage 6 is a big one
-
4:24 - 4:27because you've got the F chord
and you've got the 'tie' strumming patterns. -
4:27 - 4:28The both are now big deal.
-
4:28 - 4:30We're gonna be working on those things
-
4:30 - 4:32little bit more at the next couple of stages as well.
-
4:32 - 4:34But this is an important little stage to make sure you get right.
-
4:34 - 4:36So,have fun with that
-
4:36 - 4:39and when you feel like you're confident with all of these things
-
4:39 - 4:41then I see you for stage 7.
-
4:41 - 4:43Take care of yourselves, bye bye.
