Initial Culture Shock in Korea

  • 0:00 - 0:01
    Hello friends and family
  • 0:01 - 0:07
This is Megan Bowen aka ChoNunMigookSaram imnida
  • 0:07 - 0:11
Nobody really asked but I thought it would be a really cool video because people
  • 0:11 - 0:14
are constantly asking me like the differences between you know Korea
  • 0:14 - 0:16
and you know America and stuff like that
  • 0:16 - 0:19
So I thought it would be cool to share with you my initial culture shock things
  • 0:19 - 0:21
that happened when I first came to Korea
  • 0:21 - 0:26
Cause I realised that I never made a video about culture shock when I first came to Korea
  • 0:26 - 0:27
    So anyway
  • 0:27 - 0:33
Without further ado, the culture shock things that I was shocked about when I first came to Korea
  • 0:33 - 0:38
OK, so one of the biggest culture shocks that happened to me when I rolled up in this country
  • Not Synced
So I'm walking doo doo doo doo doo into the subway station
  • Not Synced
This person in front of me just opened the door so I'm like oh doo doo doo doo doo
  • Not Synced
    PEW
  • Not Synced
    They didn't hold the door.
  • Not Synced
    They didn't hold the door!
  • Not Synced
I know it's just kinda like an Amurrrican thing maybe
  • Not Synced
But you know if somebody is like close to you
  • Not Synced
    Like close enough to you
  • Not Synced
Y'know you don't just slam the door in their face
  • Not Synced
    You like
  • Not Synced
    You know
  • Not Synced
You hold it a little bit
  • Not Synced
I mean if they're like more than a minute walk away obviously that's too far
  • Not Synced
But when you're like this, you hold the door for people
  • Not Synced
So, I would always forget because it's my habit to just assume
  • Not Synced
Ah, because I'm so close, this person is not gonna close the door on me
  • Not Synced
And so I would just walk in BAM BAM BAM
  • Not Synced
    Door shutting everywhere
  • Not Synced
    Hum
  • Not Synced
And then, if you hold the door for people, like they'll just walk through
  • Not Synced
And they would not even like say "thank you" or anything like that
  • Not Synced
You just hold the door, people would just keep walking through
  • Not Synced
And they won't stop, they're just like
  • Not Synced
"I guess she'll just hold the door for everyone"
  • Not Synced
So, I learned quickly to not hold the door either
  • Not Synced
Cause that's a waste of time
  • Not Synced
And actually now I secretly enjoy closing the door on the people behind me and I look
  • Not Synced
And I'll be like "Yeah, I inconvenienced you"
  • Not Synced
    It's my secret
  • Not Synced
So another thing I was really shocked about is
  • Not Synced
    Spitting
  • Not Synced
I'm talking about, when you walk along the street you will see people spitting
