Laten we twee gemengde breuken optellen: twee en vijf dertienden plus zeven en zes dertienden.

en de manier waarop ik dat ik mijn hoofd bekijk,

ik splits de gemengde breuk in zijn geheel deel en zijn breuk.

dus kunnen we 2 en 5/13 herschrijven als 2 + 5/13

en dan schrijven we die plus,

en 7 en 6/13 kunnen ze herschrijven als plus 7 plus 6/13.

Dus alles wat ik voorlopig heb gedaan is dit herschreven, en het geexpandeerd.

Ik heb de gemengde breuken opgedeeld in hun twee componenten: het gehele deel en de breuk.

En wat ik dan graag doe is, dan tel ik de gehele delen op,

dus deze 2 plus deze 7 -- ik zal de 2 + 7 hier doen --

Ik tel ze tesamen, en daarbij zal ik dan de breuken optellen. Dus daarbij moet ik dan 5/13 en 6/13 optellen.

Dus als we de gehele delen optellen: 2 + 7 is 9

en dan de breuken, die al dezelfde noemer hebben,

5/13 plus 6/13, met dezelfde noemer

dan krijg je 11/13, 5 + 6 is 11.

Dus krijg je 9 + 11/13

wel, en dat is hetzelfde als 9 en 11/13.

en klaar.
