    with the dessert because
  • 2:01 - 2:03
that's how I like to roll
  • 2:03 - 2:06
This one is their 'Oreo Monster',
  • 2:06 - 2:07
    you can see the cookie
  • 2:07 - 2:10
It has some blueberry cream cheese,
  • 2:10 - 2:12

Let me just take a bite
  • 2:20 - 2:22
I feel so guilty eating this
  • 2:22 - 2:24
The bagel itself is super fresh
  • 2:24 - 2:25

    because it feels more
kind of like a real deal meal
  • 4:10 - 4:12
    It's like two flat biscuits
    smashed together
  • 4:12 - 4:14
    What's really nice
    about the outer shell
  • 4:14 - 4:17
is that they added some black sugar to it
  • 4:17 - 4:18

It looks like it would be
    hard and crunchy,
  • 4:21 - 4:25
but it has this nice kind of

    like this don't have
  • 4:28 - 4:30
And then when you take a bite
    it's not just cheese,
  • 4:30 - 4:31
    it almost tastes like
  • 4:31 - 4:35
there's a mayonnaise flavor to it
or a buttery flavor to it
  • 4:35 - 4:37
    More than a dessert,
    it feels like I'm having
  • 4:37 - 4:41
kind of like pancakes with cheese
and mayonnaise on top of it
  • 4:41 - 4:43
And now for dessert we have the custard
  • 4:47 - 4:51
    Wow! Whoa!
    Don't lose the custard!
  • 4:51 - 4:53
You can see it just steaming,
  • 4:53 - 4:57
perfect for a fall day like this
when it's a little bit chilly
  • 4:57 - 5:00
    leaves are turning brown,
    they're falling on the ground
  • 5:00 - 5:03
you just need something to warm up
and this is the perfect treat
  • 5:03 - 5:06
    the custard itself it has
that kind of that eggy taste to it
  • 5:06 - 5:09
I can see like this shop
has been around for 70 years
  • 5:09 - 5:13
and you know a shop to last
that long it has to be good
  • 5:13 - 5:15
    But anyways,
let's move on to the next spot

  • 5:23 - 5:26
I think they have more than
    100 different beans here
  • 5:26 - 5:28

This spot is one of those
"if you know then you know" shops
  • 5:45 - 5:49
    Ultra popular amongst locals
    for its tonkatsu pork cutlets,
  • 5:49 - 5:51
the meat is carefully selected every day
  • 5:51 - 5:53
    from Kanagawa and Gunma prefectures
  • 5:53 - 5:56

  • 5:56 - 5:58
The meat is sliced only after you order
  • 5:58 - 6:01
    Just sitting at the counter
it feels like I'm at a sushi restaurant
  • 6:01 - 6:03
The meat itself is deep fried twice.
  • 6:03 - 6:06
in a low heat and then
    a high heat rapeseed oil.
  • 6:06 - 6:08
    producing an extra crispy shell
  • 6:08 - 6:10
    My mouth is already watering
  • 6:12 - 6:15
    I got the tofu hidekatsu
  • 6:15 - 6:18
Look at how crispy the outside is
  • 6:18 - 6:21
I'm gonna dip it in the first house
    from this restaurant, like that
  • 6:24 - 6:27
I mean just look at it,
you know why this is this special dish
  • 6:34 - 6:37
Oh that's one of the best
pieces of meat I've ever tasted
  • 6:37 - 6:39
that's golden crispy on the outside
  • 6:39 - 6:43
And that meat is so tender and flavorful
  • 6:43 - 6:45
Oh and that sauce, the sweet side
  • 6:45 - 6:48
    Adding a little sesame there
adds a bit more texture to it
  • 6:48 - 6:51
I am so happy coming to this spot!
  • 6:54 - 6:56
They offer a special tonkatsu sauce,
  • 6:56 - 7:00
dashi soy, two kinds of salt,
sancho pepper, and wait for it
  • 7:00 - 7:03
that good old Canadian maple syrup
  • 7:03 - 7:06
And let me dip it in some
    Canadian maple syrup
  • 7:06 - 7:09
Look at that dripping maple syrup
  • 7:13 - 7:15
    Surprisingly that pairs
    it really well together
  • 7:15 - 7:17
There's no other place I know where
  • 7:17 - 7:20
you can get maple syrup and katsu together
  • 7:20 - 7:23
    and then also you can
    throw some salt on it
  • 7:25 - 7:29
    Wow, the salt just itself
with the katsu is it brilliant
  • 7:29 - 7:32
    Let me just throw some
    more maple syrup on here
  • 7:33 - 7:35
    and then go back to
    the Miyako special sauce
  • 7:35 - 7:38
and then throw it back with some more salt
  • 7:39 - 7:43
I love how you can taste
    all the different flavors here
  • 7:43 - 7:46
This is their tonjiru right here
and what I love about it is
  • 7:46 - 7:50
if you kind of dig down deep,
    huge chunks of meat inside
  • 7:55 - 7:58
None of the scraps go to waste here
  • 7:58 - 8:02
Now if you're into a traditional
    tonkatsu with a thicker breading
  • 8:02 - 8:04
I also gotta give a shout out to Muranaka

This is another little secret spot that
  • 9:12 - 9:14
I wanted to share with all of y'all
  • 9:14 - 9:19
If you're looking for a kind of
like a beer and some gyoza spot
  • 9:19 - 9:22
then this is where I would recommend to go
  • 9:22 - 9:25
I mean if you just look around it is
kind of like has that izakaya atmosphere
  • 9:25 - 9:29
You come here to drink and eat,
maybe just hang out with some friends
  • 9:29 - 9:33
I've got my beer right here and
    I got these awesome dumplings
  • 9:33 - 9:38
You can see the top of it,
it's all kind of fried together
  • 9:38 - 9:40
    They call it like 'paripari'
    like "crunchy"
  • 9:40 - 9:43
    and you hear that crunch
    when you break it
  • 9:46 - 9:50
Juices just dripping from the gyoza
  • 9:50 - 9:51
First I gotta have a beer though
  • 9:54 - 9:55
    That's nice
  • 9:55 - 9:59
    For my little sauce here,
vinegar, soy sauce, and some chili oil
  • 10:00 - 10:02
    Dip it in like that
  • 10:02 - 10:05
Look at all the juice coming
from that dumpling, it's just dripping
  • 10:09 - 10:10
    That is so crunchy
  • 10:10 - 10:12
    That pork is so flavorful
  • 10:12 - 10:17
All of the oils and the meat juices
    are coming from that gyoza
  • 10:17 - 10:18
    It's amazing!
  • 10:18 - 10:19
    First thing is the crunch
  • 10:19 - 10:23
    and then the next thing
is the explosion in your mouth
  • 10:26 - 10:27
    It's spritzing everywhere
  • 10:27 - 10:30
You can see how juicy the insides are
  • 10:30 - 10:32
you see the onions in there,
    you can see the pork
  • 10:32 - 10:34
It has a little bit of a sweetness to it
  • 10:34 - 10:36
    just a little maybe
    coming from the onions
  • 10:36 - 10:40
    The gyoza is just amazing,
but then to wash it down
  • 10:40 - 10:42
with the beer is just job done
  • 10:45 - 10:46
    I'm so satisfied
  • 10:46 - 10:50
    So before we continue on,
I wanted to show you this little spot
  • 10:50 - 10:53
It's kind of like a little train station,
    let me show you
  • 11:02 - 11:04
    #5: Rakuman Korokke
  • 11:04 - 11:05
    Ever been like,
  • 11:05 - 11:08
    "Hey, I want to eat
    an award-winning korokke"?
  • 11:08 - 11:10
Well, welcome to the next spot
  • 11:10 - 11:12
    This shop's fried goodies are
  • 11:12 - 11:15
    just like my bracelets in
    elementary school, all handmade
  • 11:15 - 11:18
    They use a kitakami potato
    from Hokkaido Niseko
  • 11:18 - 11:20
which are known for their strong sweetness
  • 11:20 - 11:24
Instead of sauce they recommend using
    their original rausu kombu salt
  • 11:24 - 11:26
    to brighten up
    the taste of its ingredients
  • 11:26 - 11:28
    I got the goodies!
  • 11:28 - 11:30
    Look at this!
  • 11:30 - 11:33
    This is a wagyu korokke
  • 11:33 - 11:35
It should have some potatoes in there,
  • 11:35 - 11:40
    crispy panko golden fried
    sesame seeds on the top,
  • 11:40 - 11:41
    can't beat it!
  • 11:41 - 11:42
    And take the first bite
  • 11:47 - 11:50
    Wow!
    That is a piping hot
  • 11:50 - 11:53
You can actually get the ones
    that they've already made
  • 11:53 - 11:56
or if you wait five minutes
they will freshly fry it for you,
  • 11:56 - 11:59
    and that's what we've done
and that is ultra piping hot right there
  • 11:59 - 12:02
    and you have these really
    thick pieces of wagyu beef
  • 12:02 - 12:06
    they say 'tapuri' meaning there's
a whole lot of wagyu in there
  • 12:06 - 12:09
    and they give you
    some white powder as well
  • 12:09 - 12:10
    It's actually salt
  • 12:10 - 12:12
Throw some salt up in there like that
  • 12:12 - 12:16
sprinkle a little bit on, just like so
  • 12:18 - 12:19
    Wow!
  • 12:19 - 12:22
    The potatoes itself gives off
    a nice sweetness
  • 12:22 - 12:25
and the wagyu beef gives an umami
just to round out the flavor
  • 12:25 - 12:28
And I just love how crunchy this is
  • 12:28 - 12:30
Let me just share with you
    how crunchy this is
  • 12:34 - 12:37
    And I'm all done
I should probably have ordered more
  • 12:38 - 12:41
Luckily I didn't just order the korokke
  • 12:41 - 12:44
    I ordered also their menchikatsu
  • 12:44 - 12:46
    Look at that,
let me just take a quick bite
  • 12:50 - 12:52
Dude, super hot just like the korokke
  • 12:52 - 12:54
The meat juices are on point,
  • 12:54 - 12:57
but I think you just need
    a little bit more flavor
  • 12:57 - 12:59
and that's why they give you this salt
  • 12:59 - 13:01
    And then you gotta throw
a little bit of the salt on
  • 13:01 - 13:04
    to accentuate that flavor
and to kind of bring it all out
  • 13:04 - 13:07
You got all the salt flakes
    on there, right there
  • 13:11 - 13:15
    And it's just so crispy,
you can see it just flakes off
  • 13:15 - 13:16
    Getting all over my pants
  • 13:16 - 13:18
Make sure to have your napkins ready
  • 13:18 - 13:21
Probably have it all over my face,
    but it's just so good
  • 13:21 - 13:24
    Definitely another local spot
    I'm showing you today,
  • 13:24 - 13:26
    but that said let's
move on to the next spot
  • 13:27 - 13:29
    #6: Amanoya
  • 13:29 - 13:34
    This Japanese style café goes
all the way back to 1927 in Osaka
  • 13:34 - 13:35
    Originally gained its popularity
  • 13:35 - 13:38
    from serving egg sandwiches
    in bite-sized form
  • 13:38 - 13:40
to mostly women entering the workforce,
  • 13:40 - 13:42
who also appreciated being able to take
  • 13:42 - 13:45
    their food with them while
working outside or visiting the theater
  • 13:46 - 13:48
I got the baggies of goodies!
  • 13:50 - 13:53
We got the boxes of all boxes
  • 13:53 - 13:56
This is probably the happiest box
    I'll get today
  • 13:56 - 14:00
The wrapping is just insane in Japan
  • 14:00 - 14:02
    It feels like Christmas
    where you have to just
  • 14:02 - 14:05
    get through all the wrapping
    to get your present
  • 14:05 - 14:10
    And bah-bam,
    look at this premium
  • 14:10 - 14:14
    Oh my god
this is a lot of egg sandwich
  • 14:15 - 14:19
Wow, this is for like a small family
  • 14:19 - 14:24
    Look at this,
    1, 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6!
  • 14:24 - 14:27
    6 healthy egg sandwiches
  • 14:27 - 14:31
if you split that in half,
    that is 12 full pieces
  • 14:31 - 14:34
well if you split that in half
    I guess that's not a full piece
  • 14:34 - 14:38
This is the real deal egg sandwich
  • 14:38 - 14:41
Oh, you can smell the mayonnaise
  • 14:47 - 14:51
    Wow, that is amazing
  • 14:51 - 14:54
    That is an egg sandwich
that will kick you in the junk
  • 14:54 - 14:56
    This is awesome,
  • 14:56 - 14:59
you can see all of the
    moistness coming from that egg
  • 14:59 - 15:01
The texture of the egg is quite solid,
  • 15:01 - 15:04
    like some of the eggs
I've had are really really fluffy
  • 15:04 - 15:05
where this one is quite dense
  • 15:05 - 15:08
Wow you could really taste that
  • 15:08 - 15:11
I think it has some mustard,
but it almost tastes like wasabi
  • 15:11 - 15:13
or like a mix of both
  • 15:13 - 15:17
    There's just so much flavor
and that dashi is really really strong
  • 15:19 - 15:22
Literally if I got this as a present,
  • 15:22 - 15:24
wrapped in a box like this,
  • 15:24 - 15:25
    I would be happy
  • 15:25 - 15:28
I would say "Thank you very much.
Can I please have another one?"
  • 15:29 - 15:31
I really just can't get enough
  • 15:31 - 15:33
    I am so happy,
this puts a smile on my face
  • 15:33 - 15:35
    Winner, winner, egg dinner
  • 15:35 - 15:37
