Hollow Knight Book Analysis Follow Up

  • 0:04 - 0:08
So in my wanderer’s journal video, I mentioned
that there were only two possibilities for
  • 0:08 - 0:12
why the Wanderer’s Journal would say that
the Hive was unmarred by the infection.
  • 0:12 - 0:15
But I forgot a third option, that I’m an
    idiot.
  • 0:15 - 0:18
So in this quick video, I’m going to run
through some of the comments I’ve received
  • 0:18 - 0:21
on that video and what my thoughts are after
    reading them.
  • 0:21 - 0:24
And don’t worry, I won’t make any Rick
    and Morty jokes.
  • 0:24 - 0:27
Instead, I’ll be making Archer jokes
  • 0:27 - 0:31
A lot of people theorized that the Hive wasn’t
infected when Ellina came to Hallownest, since
  • 0:31 - 0:33
she might have arrived before the Knight.
  • 0:33 - 0:37
So I completely forgot to mention that this
book is being written during the events of
  • 0:37 - 0:38
    Hollow Knight.
  • 0:38 - 0:41
Ellina sees Sheo’s painting of the Knight
    in Greenpath.
  • 0:41 - 0:44
Not sure how the fuck she got there but whatever.
  • 0:44 - 0:48
She sees Bretta in both the Fungal Wastes
    and in Dirtmouth.
  • 0:48 - 0:52
And she visits the Ancient Basin both before
and after the door to the Abyss is opened.
  • 0:52 - 0:57
And on top of all that, she mentions that
Vespa is, in fact, dead by the time she gets
  • 0:57 - 0:58
    to the Hive.
  • 0:58 - 1:00
So that’s definitely not what’s happening.
  • 1:00 - 1:04
Now I want to talk about another popular theory
I saw that I actually think makes a lot of
  • 1:04 - 1:05
    sense.
  • 1:05 - 1:08
And it all has to do with phrasing.
  • 1:08 - 1:13
So Ellina uses the word “unmarred”, but
what the fuck does that word even mean?
  • 1:13 - 1:16
Well it means “Not marred or injured.”
  • 1:16 - 1:20
So what if Ellina is actually saying that
the Hive is infected, just not injured by
  • 1:20 - 1:21
    it.
  • 1:21 - 1:23
Now I know what some of you are thinking.
  • 1:23 - 1:26
What makes bees so fucking special that the
    infection doesn’t hurt them?
  • 1:26 - 1:28
Well, I’ll give you a hint.
  • 1:28 - 1:30
    Ants!
  • 1:30 - 1:33
These types of bugs naturally operate under
    a hive mind.
  • 1:33 - 1:38
So when the Radiance rolled in with her insidious
Fanta formula, the bees didn’t even fight
  • 1:38 - 1:39
    it.
  • 1:39 - 1:41
That’s why the Whispering Root says “Light
    Familiar”.
  • 1:41 - 1:47
They are already familiar with being under
a hive mind, so they continued to just be
  • 1:47 - 1:51
bees doing the things that bees do.
  • 1:51 - 1:55
Ergo, when Ellina shows up, nothing seems
    out of the ordinary.
  • 1:55 - 1:59
Ergo, ergo, “unmarred by the spread of the
    infection.”
  • 1:59 - 2:03
One final note, some people mentioned that
the Hiveblood charm proves the bees aren’t
  • 2:03 - 2:07
infected, because bees don’t attack the
Knight when the Hiveblood charm is equipped.
  • 2:07 - 2:11
But I think this is just because the bees
don’t recognize the Knight as a threat anymore.
  • 2:11 - 2:14
They have been tricked into thinking the Knight
    is one of them.
  • 2:14 - 2:18
I’m not sure why the Hive Husk doesn’t
attack the Knight either, but it’s obvious
  • 2:18 - 2:20
    that this thing is infected.
  • 2:20 - 2:22
Either that or it’s wearing colored contact
    lenses.
  • 2:22 - 2:27
Also, some people have said the gas that bees
    give off is pollen.
  • 2:27 - 2:30
    Which I highly doubt, but I guess I can’t
    really argue against it.
  • 2:30 - 2:34
Now that I think about it, how the fuck do
the bees even make the honey in the first
  • 2:34 - 2:35
    place.
  • 2:35 - 2:39
The Hive is closed off, they should all have
    starved to death long ago.
  • 2:39 - 2:40
And I think that about wraps things up.
  • 2:40 - 2:44
I also got a lot of comments about how the
King’s Pass lore tablets might have been
  • 2:44 - 2:46
    created for the Vessels.
  • 2:46 - 2:49
    That’s entirely possible, but I think it’s
weird that the third one seems to have been
  • 2:49 - 2:52
written when Hallownest was still standing.
  • 2:52 - 2:54
But I think I’ll save all of that for another
    video.
  • 2:54 - 2:57
    Well anyways, thanks for watching!
  • 2:58 - 2:59
    Archer.
