We were invited to participate and to take records of the attempts to contact the dead.
  • 0:50 - 0:58
Lizz and Ebbe receives roughly the same short voices as Jürgenson did in his time.
  • 0:58 - 1:02
    Lizz: "Do you hear me?"
  • 1:02 - 1:03
    Lizz: The dead!
  • 1:03 - 1:04
Lizz: "Do you hear me now?"
  • 1:04 - 1:06
    "The dead are contacting you"
  • 1:06 - 1:09
Ebbe: The dead are contacting us.
  • 1:09 - 1:10
Lizz: "Do you hear me now?"
  • 1:10 - 1:12
    "The dead are contacting you"
  • 1:12 - 1:18
Ebbe: Yes, the dead are contacting the tape.
  • 1:19 - 1:21
Lizz: "Hello! Do you hear me now?"
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    "The dead are contacting you"
  • 1:24 - 1:27
Ebbe: The dead are contacting us.
  • 1:27 - 1:31
Lizz Werneroth and Ebbe Johansson are listening to recordings.
  • 1:37 - 1:40
Lizz: Hello! Do you hear us?
  • 1:47 - 1:49
    "You have to wait"
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    Ebbe: We have to wait"
  • 1:51 - 1:56
    "Yes, we have to wait"
  • 1:56 - 1:58
    "I can see."
  • 1:58 - 2:00
    Ebbe: I can see
  • 2:00 - 2:02
    "Yes, I can see"
  • 2:02 - 2:04
Lizz: She says "I can see"
  • 2:04 - 2:07
    "I can see"
  • 2:07 - 2:10
Lizz: I can see. Did you hear that?
  • 2:17 - 2:18
    Ebbe: Is it Tony?
  • 2:18 - 2:22
    Lizz: It's the dead who...
  • 2:26 - 2:29
Lizz: "Do you see Tony and Eva?"
  • 2:40 - 2:41
    "Tony"
  • 2:41 - 2:43
    Lizz & Ebbe: There!
  • 2:45 - 2:48
    Lizz: Tony. Oh, how clearly!
  • 2:55 - 2:57
    Ebbe: What did they say?
  • 2:57 - 3:04
    "Tony"
  • 3:04 - 3:06
    Lizz: They say i twice.
  • 3:06 - 3:08
    Ebbe: "Tony is here"
  • 3:08 - 3:09
    "Tony"
  • 3:14 - 3:18
Lizz: They say Tony once again.
  • 3:23 - 3:28
Sometimes it's very difficult to hear the voices when they first appare.
  • 3:28 - 3:33
By recording the conversations you are able to interpret the voices later.
  • 3:38 - 3:42
Lizz: They say "who are you?"
  • 3:42 - 3:48
Already during the preparations voices came in and startled us all.
  • 3:53 - 3:55
What was that on the radio?
  • 3:55 - 3:57
    Lizz: I can here something.
  • 3:57 - 4:01
Lizz: Not from there. Here it is!
  • 4:05 - 4:07
    Lizz: There! Hear the dead.
  • 4:07 - 4:09
    "Hear the dead"
  • 4:09 - 4:11
    Lizz: Yes, there!
  • 4:11 - 4:13
Lizz: I know they are there!
  • 4:13 - 4:16
    Lizz: I can feel it.
  • 4:19 - 4:22
    Lizz: There they were!
  • 4:22 - 4:27
On the tape you can here a voice that none of us in the room heard during the recording.
  • 4:27 - 4:31
It's commenting Lizz with the words - "Yes, it does!"
  • 4:31 - 4:38
Now, listen after Lizz says "It's not operating, it's disconnected."
  • 4:38 - 4:41
    Lizz: I was to late.
  • 4:41 - 4:46
Lizz: What date is it? The 15th, 16th?
  • 4:46 - 4:48
    Lizz: It's the 16th.
  • 4:51 - 4:54
Lizz: It's not operating, it's disconnected.
  • 4:54 - 4:57
    "Yes, it does!"
  • 4:59 - 5:02
Lizz started to receive taped voices about twenty years ago.
  • 5:02 - 5:05
She has always believed in a life after death.
  • 5:05 - 5:15
She became fascinated by electronic communication with the dead after listening to a radio interview with Jürgenson in 1959.
  • 5:15 - 5:23
Not until 1966 she had the opportunity to buy a tape recorder and then started getting the voices of the dead on tape.
  • 5:23 - 5:27
    She visited Jürgenson in 1974.
  • 5:28 - 5:31
Lizz: He listened to my recordings and said
  • 5:31 - 5:40
    - Ahh, what beautiful voices you have recorded, you have to keep doing this and we will do a test recording.
  • 5:40 - 5:47
So we did and a woman's voice shouts
  • 5:47 - 5:53
    "Lizzi, our neuen treuen Freund"
  • 5:53 - 5:55
    Tony: What does that mean?
  • 5:55 - 5:59
It means "Lizz, our new faithful friend."
  • 5:59 - 6:06
Jürgenson was so enthusiastic, just as I was.
  • 6:06 - 6:14
But at the moment I was worried about
    how to manage the radio.
  • 6:14 - 6:23
I told him about my concerns,
but gave it a chance a few days after our meeting.
  • 6:23 - 6:44
Then Jürgenson calls and says that Annika,
his sister-in-law, had crashed her car.
The three people and the dog in the car had all died.
  • 6:44 - 6:49
In that afternoon her voice appears on my radio.
  • 6:49 - 6:53
I ask for Annika and she answers "I'll be there."
  • 6:53 - 6:56
but I didn't hear any more and I didn't record it.
  • 6:56 - 7:06
Later that evening I try again and got a contact that lasted approximately 15 minutes.
  • 7:06 - 7:23
I could hear her on the tape. She is laughing and saying that she crashed in a cross, a street crossing .
  • 7:23 - 7:36
And she says "Dead in the cross" and she mentions her name, laughs and you can hear the dog barking.
  • 7:36 - 7:41
I recorded it all but I didn't hear everything.
  • 7:41 - 7:47
So I sent the recordings to Jürgenson and as soon as he had listened to it hi calls me.
  • 7:47 - 7:50
Hi said that it was amazing, it was Annika.
  • 7:52 - 7:57
Ebbe got interested in the subject after listening to a lecture by Freidrich Jürgenson.
  • 7:57 - 8:04
About ten years ago he got in contact with Lizz and they have worked together since then.
  • 8:04 - 8:10
As a technician Ebbe wants to figure out how all of this is possible.
  • 8:10 - 8:15
He got a big radio from a ship and directional aerial.
  • 8:15 - 8:24
At their first attempt to contact The Other Side they got in contact with Marconi, known to have developed the radio in the 19th century.
  • 8:24 - 8:31
Ebbe: I remember that we at the first recording got in contact with Marconi. It was unbelievable.
  • 8:31 - 8:40
Back then we didn't have the directional aerial, just a regular radio. That small radio.
  • 8:40 - 8:53
I remember that Marconi mentioned something about a antenna, a directional aerial, so I got one of those.
  • 8:53 - 8:57
Lizz: After that, we started to receive a lot of interesting things.
  • 8:57 - 9:04
Ebbe: Yes, even if it was just short bits of communication we had back then.
  • 9:04 - 9:14
Now we try to eliminate disturbing noise and get a clean sound.
  • 9:14 - 9:22
A clear sound of something from The Other Side.
It's hard to define what it actually is.
  • 9:24 - 9:40
Lizz and Ebbe uses a cassette recorder, a small shortwave radio, a ship radio and a direction finding equipment with directional aerial.
  • 9:40 - 9:57
    They use the radio frequencies
    1,424 MHz, 1485 MHz, 2,750 MHz, 2,850 MHz och 8,250 MHz
  • 10:00 - 10:01
    Tony: What frequency?
  • 10:01 - 10:03
    Ebbe: At 2...
  • 10:03 - 10:04
    "Lizzi"
  • 10:04 - 10:06
    Lizz: She said Lizzy. Hello!
  • 10:06 - 10:07
    Ebbe: ... 85.
  • 10:07 - 10:08
    Lizz: Do you hear me?
  • 10:08 - 10:12
    "The dead are contacting"
  • 10:16 - 10:18
    Ebbe: 285
  • 10:22 - 10:27
Lizz: Hello? Can you hear us?
  • 10:27 - 10:33
"Du you want me to say something och the recording, over."
  • 10:33 - 10:38
    "Yes, I can see"
  • 10:38 - 10:42
    "Yes...."
  • 10:42 - 10:44
    Lizz: Do you see?
  • 10:44 - 10:44
    "Yes"
  • 10:44 - 10:46
Lizz: Can you see Tony and Eva?
  • 10:46 - 10:48
    "Oh, yes"
  • 10:53 - 10:57
This was recorded during a coffee brake when the camera was left on recording.
  • 10:57 - 11:03
Did you manage to hear the voices that Lizz and Ebbe don't seem to perceive them.
  • 11:03 - 11:08
Often you only hear the voices by listening to the recordings afterwards.
  • 11:08 - 11:13
That is why it's so important to let the tape recorder roll during the whole session.
  • 11:19 - 11:30
This i where we leave Lizz Werneroth and Ebbe Johansson in their studio at Lizz's home in Vemmenhög, Skåne, Sweden and travel all the way to USA.
