How can I see my father in myself when I have never met him?

  • 0:04 - 0:06

  • 0:09 - 0:19
    (Bell)
  • 0:30 - 0:33
Dear Thay, I never met my father,
  • 0:35 - 0:39
so there will always be this longing
    I have to meet him.
  • 0:43 - 0:49
    You learn here to recognize
our grandfather or our grandmother or father
  • 0:49 - 0:52
    in ourselves.
  • 0:52 - 0:58
    So my question is:
how do I practice to see my father
  • 0:59 - 1:02
when I never met him or have seen him?
  • 1:12 - 1:16
    There are people
who see their father every day,
  • 1:17 - 1:22
but have not really met him.
  • 1:25 - 1:35
I mean that there are couples: there are
fathers and sons, fathers and daughters
  • 1:38 - 1:46
who see each other every day, but
there is no communication between them.
  • 1:48 - 1:58
They see the other person, yes, but
they have not really met the other person
  • 1:58 - 2:02
    because there is no communication;
    there is no love;
  • 2:02 - 2:05
    there is no understanding.
  • 2:05 - 2:09
    So, in that case,
  • 2:11 - 2:14
to see a father every day
  • 2:16 - 2:19
    that's not true happiness
  • 2:19 - 2:23
    because there is no understanding,
    no love.
  • 2:25 - 2:31
But if you practice looking deeply,
    meditation,
  • 2:33 - 2:37
you will see that you are
    the continuation of your father.
  • 2:38 - 2:41
    And this is the truth.
  • 2:44 - 2:49
You are not only the continuation
of your father, but you ARE your father.
  • 2:56 - 2:59
You cannot take your father out of you.
  • 3:03 - 3:07
Look at the cloud in the sky.
  • 3:16 - 3:19
The cloud may become the rain
  • 3:26 - 3:28
and the rain may become the tea.
  • 3:29 - 3:33
And when you look at the tea
    you can see the cloud.
  • 3:35 - 3:39
It's not so difficult to see
    the cloud in the tea.
  • 3:42 - 3:44
So when you look into yourself
  • 3:46 - 3:48
    is not difficult to see
    your father in you.
  • 3:49 - 3:50
    You are not only
  • 3:50 - 3:52
    the continuation of your father,
  • 3:52 - 3:54
    you ARE your father.
  • 3:54 - 3:56
    The rain IS the cloud.
  • 3:57 - 4:00
And the tea IS the rain and the cloud.
  • 4:01 - 4:05
    So the appearance is not
    the most important thing.
  • 4:05 - 4:07
    It is the content.
  • 4:09 - 4:15
So if you can smile with joy and peace,
  • 4:16 - 4:20
your father is smiling with joy and peace
    at the same time.
  • 4:23 - 4:27
And you carry your father always with you.
  • 4:27 - 4:32
    When you make a step
that is full of peace and joy,
  • 4:32 - 4:37
your father is making this step
at the same time with you.
  • 4:38 - 4:44
And you are closer, closer to your father
    than you might have thought.
  • 4:46 - 4:51
And you can talk to your father
    at any time.
  • 4:54 - 4:58
My own father, he has not died
  • 5:00 - 5:02
and he walks with me every day.
  • 5:02 - 5:05
He breathes with me every day
    and I talk to him.
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    The cloud has not died.
  • 5:11 - 5:15
It is now a new form:
    the rain or the tea.
  • 5:16 - 5:22
So you can talk to the cloud,
and you can drink your cloud.
  • 5:24 - 5:28
And meditation can help us see
    things deeply like that.
  • 5:30 - 5:33
And when we are able to see
things like that we can remove
  • 5:33 - 5:42
all kind of afflictions, and regret,
    and sadness, and suffering.
  • 5:46 - 5:49

  • Hi!
I'd like to comment that I haven't understood the girl very much since the audio is not very good when she talks.
This is my first English subtitle, and I don't know if it's better to write something (as I have done) or leave it blank and write only the question.
    Thanks!
