Sophie Stone: Welcome, to "Dr. Who Extra"

Sophie: When I first read it, it's crazy, and

very...strong in terms of characters, thanks to Toby

for giving any Deaf woman the opportunity to play these roles.

The fact that he's written for a Deaf character who isn't
vulnerable, who isn't a victim, or typecasting

somebody who "can't"
Zaqi Ismail: yeah.

Sophie: um, she was definitely a "can do" girl

The Doctor: "I'm the Doctor"
Peter Capaldi: "The Doctor's relationship with Cass...

Peter: is one of admiration. He very quickly susses out
she's the smartest person, apart from him, of course

Peter: and is very keen on her, because she knows what's going on
and sees things more clearly than everybody else.

The Doctor: "So who's in charge now. I need to know who to ignore."

Lunn interpreting for Cass: "That'd be me. Her!"

Jenna Coleman: "What was really .... fascinating, about Sophie
is that her instincts and her intuition are so.... open."

Sophie: Without my hearing aid I can't pick up things that I
would naturally do as an actor.

I'm left to sort of find other ways, whether they're visual cues,
or if I just watch, and somebody physicalilty goes [moves as example]

I know that the scene has started.

Director: "Action."
Sophie: "Every scene is different, so you find a different way to survive"

Jenna Coleman: "Her relationship, as well, with Lunn, is so so lovely.
They kind of... unspoken love between the two."

Zaqi Ismail: "My elder sister's Deaf, so... It's been very exciting just to kind
of pick up my ability while I've been here, you know, signing constantly.

I'm excited for my sister to see this, if I'll be honest.

Sophie: The things that we've invented? Yeah, yeah...
The thing, um, we've got...

"Vector Petroleum." Um, and the sign of Vector Petroleum,

looks like a little fire, um, and so we've come up with that [demonstrates sign]

"Prototype." There is no sign for "prototype" so it's [indicates sign] this

Zaqi: "That's my favorite"
Sophie: "There are lots of different moments like that, aren't there?"

Zaqi: "yeah."
Sophie: "yeah"
