May 25 - Two Ears to Hear
-
0:01 - 0:03How many ears do you have?
-
0:03 - 0:04Two!
-
0:04 - 0:06How many ears do you need?
-
0:06 - 0:08That's a trickier question.
-
0:08 - 0:12Of course, a boy or a girl
can hear with only one ear. -
0:12 - 0:16Ales was born in Belarus
with hearing in only one ear. -
0:16 - 0:18Ales was born a month early.
-
0:18 - 0:21He didn't weigh as much as other babies.
-
0:21 - 0:23When he was three months old,
-
0:23 - 0:25his mother took him to a doctor for tests.
-
0:25 - 0:27During those tests, the doctor found
-
0:27 - 0:31that Ales could only hear with one ear.
-
0:31 - 0:33Ales' mother was shocked.
-
0:33 - 0:35She worked with children who were deaf.
-
0:35 - 0:39She loved them just as much
as she loved children who could hear. -
0:39 - 0:42But she never imagined that her own child
-
0:42 - 0:45wouldn't be able to hear with two ears.
-
0:45 - 0:48She thought that the doctor
must have made a mistake. -
0:48 - 0:51Because she worked
with children who couldn't hear, -
0:51 - 0:54she also knew how to run hearing tests.
-
0:54 - 0:58So, she ran a hearing test on little Ales.
-
0:58 - 1:02The tests showed that Ales
really couldn't hear with both ears. -
1:02 - 1:05But Ales' mother
still didn't want to believe it. -
1:05 - 1:07She took him to a special hospital
-
1:07 - 1:09for children with hearing difficulties.
-
1:09 - 1:11The doctor ran his own test.
-
1:11 - 1:14Ales' mother watched
the tests on a monitor. -
1:14 - 1:16She saw deep inside Ales' ears.
-
1:17 - 1:20One ear looked normal;
the other one didn't. -
1:20 - 1:23She saw that nothing
could be done to help. -
1:23 - 1:24She began to cry.
-
1:25 - 1:28The doctor, however,
didn't want to see her tears. -
1:28 - 1:31"Why are you crying?" he said, gruffly.
-
1:31 - 1:34"Your son can hear with one ear,
and that's enough." -
1:34 - 1:37Back home, Ales' mother cried and cried.
-
1:37 - 1:39Then she talked to God.
-
1:39 - 1:42"Why did You allow this to happen?"
she asked. -
1:42 - 1:45After a while, she turned on
some music on her phone. -
1:45 - 1:47A beautiful hymn started playing.
-
1:47 - 1:51It was called, "Nearer, My God, to Thee."
-
1:51 - 1:55Ales' mother had heard the hymn
many times since she was a little girl. -
1:55 - 1:57But for the first time, she understood
-
1:57 - 2:00that God really was near her.
-
2:00 - 2:03It felt good to know that God was near.
-
2:03 - 2:05But she still didn't want to believe
-
2:05 - 2:07that Ales would never hear with one ear.
-
2:08 - 2:10She kept on talking to God.
-
2:10 - 2:12"You can do anything," she said.
-
2:12 - 2:15"If You gave life to my son
with only one ear, -
2:15 - 2:19You could heal him
and give him life with two ears." -
2:20 - 2:23Three months passed,
and Ales' father had a birthday. -
2:23 - 2:25He didn't want a cake for his birthday.
-
2:25 - 2:27He didn't want any presents.
-
2:27 - 2:30He only wanted Ales
to hear with both ears. -
2:30 - 2:33"Our son will hear," he said.
-
2:33 - 2:36"God will do this as a gift
for my birthday." -
2:36 - 2:39They prayed and took Ales to the hospital
-
2:39 - 2:40for another hearing test.
-
2:41 - 2:43There was nowhere to sit
while they waited. -
2:43 - 2:45Ales' mother carried him in her arms,
-
2:45 - 2:47and he felt so heavy.
-
2:47 - 2:49Finally, the doctor called them in.
-
2:49 - 2:51When he finished the test, he said,
-
2:51 - 2:54"Your son can hear perfectly
with both ears!" -
2:55 - 2:58Ales' mother couldn't believe her ears.
-
2:58 - 3:00She was so happy.
-
3:00 - 3:03"This is a miracle of God!" she exclaimed.
-
3:03 - 3:05Indeed, it was a miracle.
-
3:05 - 3:08Ales' mother had seen
inside his ears on the monitor -
3:08 - 3:10three months earlier.
-
3:10 - 3:13She had seen
that no doctor could help Ales. -
3:13 - 3:15But the Great Physician, Jesus Christ,
-
3:15 - 3:16had healed her boy,
-
3:16 - 3:19and now he could hear with both ears.
-
3:19 - 3:23Ales' father wept with joy at the news.
-
3:23 - 3:25He was so happy that God had given him
-
3:25 - 3:28such a wonderful gift on his birthday.
-
3:28 - 3:31Today, Ales is six years old,
-
3:31 - 3:34and he can hear perfectly well
with both ears. -
3:34 - 3:37He uses his ears to learn Bible verses.
-
3:37 - 3:39He uses his ears to learn songs.
-
3:39 - 3:43He would like to use his ears
to learn to become a doctor -
3:43 - 3:45and to help other boys and girls.
-
3:46 - 3:50He knows that his hearing
is a gift from God.
