I'm in a book!
-
Oh, I kinda...
-
gave away...the whole announcement in the first 2 seconds...
-
Hi, it's Emily from BiteSizeVegan.org, where you
can find free resources, ecourses, kids' content,
-
and a Guided Search to help you find just
what you need, even if you don't know what to ask!
-
I am excited to share with you one of the
projects I've been working on.
-
I had the honor of contributing to a brand new book:
"Vegan Voices: Essays by Inspiring Changemakers."
-
It is a comprehensive collection of compelling
essays from a diverse group of vegan voices.
-
This book fills the needs of a
wide range of readers,
-
from those new to exploring the plant-based lifestyle
to longtime vegans and advocates.
-
Areas covered in the collection include: personal and
global health; the devastation of animal agriculture
-
to the environment; society’s collective loss of
compassion and connection to our kindred animals;
-
and the desire for a world of greater
peace, harmony, and inclusivity.
-
My essay, entitled "The Harm of 'Humane'" delves
into the reality behind humane labels and
-
animal welfare legislation. I wanted to help both
non-vegans attracted to the allure of humane
-
labels, as well as vegans in need of an effective
teaching tool for answering questions about
-
humane treatment by providing a brief,
approachable summation of the humane myth.
-
I especially highlight the completely arbitrary
distinction of what is considered "standard practice"
-
versus outright abuse, asking the reader
if they can tell one from the other.
-
I walk the reader through this logical thought process
-
using concrete examples of the extreme disparity between
-
the external appearance and internal
reality of humane regulations,
-
while also shedding light on the problems with how the media
-
—and even we activists—talk about undercover exposes.
-
This book is all thanks to author and editor
Dr. Joanne Kong, who brought us all together.
-
Dr. Kong is an award-winning classical pianist,
a writer, speaker, and creative artist.
-
She is currently a faculty member and sustainability
advisor at the University of Richmond in Virginia,
-
and will be donating all proceeds of
this book to Porchlight Animal Sanctuary.
-
I'm honored to have been included
in this collaborative effort.
-
You can grab a copy of the book today
at BiteSizeVegan.org/VeganVoicesBook
-
Lastly, we are having an official launch party for
the book on October 10th, 2021.
-
You can register for free to join the virtual launch party by going to BiteSizeVegan.org/VeganVoicesLaunch
-
It is capped at a 500 attendee capacity,
but there's still room as of this post.
-
My deepest thanks to Dr. Joanne Kong
for including me in this project.
-
I hope you all enjoy reading Vegan Voices.
Now go live vegan, and I'll see you soon.
