Interview with Lebo Akatio, director of The Last Reformation: The Life

  • 0:00 - 0:07
My name is Lebo and I am 25 years old.
    I am from Copenhagen Denmark.
  • 0:09 - 0:14
I grew up in a Christian family
but I was never born again.
  • 0:16 - 0:22
I was always in church every Sunday
when my parents and all that
  • 0:22 - 0:26
but the familiar Christian life wasn't
    really alive in me.
  • 0:26 - 0:32
It was more something you heard every
    Sunday from your parents
  • 0:33 - 0:38
But then one day I was very down, I was
    searching for more
  • 0:38 - 0:42
and I knew there was more with God.
But I always said to myself
  • 0:42 - 0:47
Why is it that everyone is experiencing
God but I don't experience Him myself?
  • 0:47 - 0:54
So one day I was praying to God to show
me that He wanted to use me.
  • 0:54 - 0:58
And to show me a sign that He is there
    for me.
  • 0:58 - 1:03
So I woke up one morning and there was a
    small hole in my bed
  • 1:03 - 1:08
I had like a bed sofa - sofa bed.
  • 1:08 - 1:16
So when I saw a small hole in that bed
I thought it was really ugly,
  • 1:16 - 1:21
so I took something to cover that hole.
  • 1:21 - 1:26
A few days after that I had to take off
    some sheets to wash it.
  • 1:26 - 1:31
And then the hole that was there was no
longer a hole but it was a big cross.
  • 1:31 - 1:36
And I remember when I saw that that it
    was really clear to me
  • 1:36 - 1:39
that it was the sign that I was praying
    for from God
  • 1:39 - 1:43
and I remember I just felt His presence
all over my body. I felt goosebumps
  • 1:43 - 1:47
When I saw it, I was - Wow
this is You God, this is You.
  • 2:02 - 2:08
So I stumbled onto a website called
    "Experience Jesus". dot DK.
  • 2:09 - 2:16
    In Danish it's called "OplevJesus"
It was a website by Torben Søndergaard
  • 2:16 - 2:22
who had that website. I remember when I
    saw his website
  • 2:22 - 2:25
I remember he seemed different compared
    to other people.
  • 2:25 - 2:29
All the pastors who are out there in
    churches in Denmark.
  • 2:29 - 2:34
He was a person who took someone by the
hand and showed them how to actually
  • 2:34 - 2:39
live the Christian life. So when I saw
that I thought, I'm going to contact him
  • 2:40 - 2:45
One thing that caught my attention is
that he said we need to be born again
  • 2:45 - 2:48
and I never heard that, actually.
  • 2:49 - 2:54
So I contacted him and he came to
    Copenhagen where I lived.
  • 2:54 - 2:59
And then he baptized me in water and the
    Holy Spirit.
  • 2:59 - 3:04
And then he went out with me on the
    street and I got kick-started.
  • 3:04 - 3:09
To heal the sick and to preach the
    gospel. That was really strong.
  • 3:09 - 3:14
In 1 day. Everything happened in 1 day.
  • 3:14 - 3:19
    That was a day
    that transformed my life completely.
  • 3:24 - 3:29
When I started to make films. When I was
doing film making - in the beginning
  • 3:30 - 3:34
I was actually making sports film making
    so it was about football
  • 3:34 - 3:39
but later on I felt that was boring, so
I wanted to do something more
  • 3:39 - 3:44
I wanted to film a bit, direct something
so I started to do some short films
  • 3:44 - 3:49
I really liked that, I really love it.
So my biggest dream at that time
  • 3:49 - 3:55
was to one day make a feature film
but not a documentary - at all
  • 3:55 - 4:00
    But to make fiction, maybe
    science fiction, action movie,
  • 4:00 - 4:01
    something at that time.
  • 4:01 - 4:05
But when I was born again,
  • 4:05 - 4:09
God made it so clear for me that
I couldn't work with that anymore.
  • 4:10 - 4:13
I just wanted to serve Him
    with all my heart.
  • 4:13 - 4:15
I wanted to give Him everything.
  • 4:15 - 4:20
And I just knew that this talent that I
have - because people loved it
  • 4:20 - 4:24
    What I was doing
I can use it to glorify Him.
  • 4:26 - 4:32
That was actually what started for me to
    make something for God.
  • 4:32 - 4:36
But I never expected that I would make a
    documentary,
  • 4:37 - 4:42
A feature film, about Him, about God,
that would actually go out there
  • 4:42 - 4:46
and change a lot of people
I would never have thought that, never.
  • 4:50 - 4:56
God spoke to us about making the movie,
    the first movie.
  • 4:57 - 5:00
He told us to make 3 movies.
  • 5:01 - 5:11
So "the Last Reformation - the Life" we
started making after the first movie
  • 5:12 - 5:17
Because we knew already that we had to
make 3 movies so we started the 2nd one
  • 5:18 - 5:22
And that one again I actually didn't
know how to make it, what to do with it.
  • 5:23 - 5:28
What it would be about. And also the
    title, "the Life"
  • 5:28 - 5:32
is something we came up with later when
    we started filming.
  • 5:32 - 5:36
In the beginning I had no idea. So when
we actually started filming the movie
  • 5:36 - 5:44
God was actually directing the whole
movie from the beginning to the end
  • 5:44 - 5:49
Later on it became more clear what the
    movie would be about
  • 5:49 - 5:53
and then we knew this movie was going
    to be about the Life
  • 5:53 - 5:55
    of a disciple of Jesus.
  • 5:55 - 5:58
And it makes sense because the first
movie was about the new birth
  • 5:58 - 6:00
    now you're a christian
  • 6:00 - 6:06
and the 2nd was now you're a born again
christian now there's a life to live.
  • 6:12 - 6:14
There's a big difference with this movie
  • 6:14 - 6:19
I feel like in this movie I'm much
closer to the stories than in the first
  • 6:19 - 6:23
This new movie "the last Reformation the
    Life"
  • 6:23 - 6:29
also because we knew more how to film
how to get the stories deeper
  • 6:32 - 6:35
The difference between this movie and
the last is that you see the life more
  • 6:35 - 6:46
You see the lifestyle of a disciple.
You see how you live it
  • 6:46 - 6:52
and how you go out and approach people
and how you share the gospel
  • 6:52 - 6:59
and how you see when people get healed
and when they don't get healed
  • 6:59 - 7:08
Ups and downs. How you get led by the
Holy Spirit. There's more about that.
  • 7:08 - 7:18
The first one is more about the new
    birth, getting baptized, born again
  • 7:18 - 7:23
filled with the Holy Spirit. This is
more deep, more what comes after that.
  • 7:23 - 7:29
What do we see after that? How do we
live this life? What happens? you know
  • 7:29 - 7:33
I remember the 1st movie, one of the
    things many people asked,
  • 7:34 - 7:42
I saw some comments on the movie, many
asked "do you seek healing all the time
  • 7:42 - 7:45
when you go out on the street? Do you
see people getting healed all the time
  • 7:45 - 7:46
    Is it always successful?
  • 7:48 - 7:52
That's what we want to show with the 2nd
movie - that it's not always successful
  • 7:52 - 7:56
We also experience that people don't
    experience healing.
  • 7:56 - 8:02
We don't always see a breakthrough. When
we keep going, keep trusting God
  • 8:02 - 8:05
    then we see a breakthrough.
  • 8:09 - 8:13
When I was making the first movie I
    experienced a lot of attacks.
  • 8:16 - 8:19
Not when I was filming but when I was
    doing the post-production,
  • 8:19 - 8:25
editing the movie. Just when I started
    editing. It started slowly.
  • 8:25 - 8:31
I got very sick. I started to cough,
    coughing, coughing, coughing
  • 8:31 - 8:35
I thought in the beginning, maybe this
will go away in a few weeks
  • 8:35 - 8:43
but it actually took 6 months. While I
was coughing I suddenly got an infection
  • 8:43 - 8:53
    I became weak. I didn't have strength
to go out, walk, work on the movie
  • 8:53 - 8:57
I only did a small amount of editing
    every day.
  • 8:57 - 9:03
I actually ended up at the very end that
    I went to the hospital
  • 9:03 - 9:10
to get operated in my back.
But I was not only attacked physically
  • 9:10 - 9:17
I was also attacked mentally. in my head
I had a lot of thoughts
  • 9:17 - 9:23
The devil came with a lot of voices and
said "this is not from God"
  • 9:23 - 9:28
    "what you're doing isn't good - nobody
will like it and nobody wants to see it"
  • 9:28 - 9:33
    "it doesn't make sense
    what you're doing"
  • 9:33 - 9:41
So I was really discouraged. I almost
didn't believe in myself in the end.
  • 9:41 - 9:46
And I didn't think anybody would see it
    - the movie.
  • 9:46 - 9:52
But I always prayed to God and said, if
just one person is changed by this movie
  • 9:52 - 9:55
then it will be worth it.
  • 9:55 - 10:06
But in the end when I finished editing
the movie, all the sickness was gone
  • 10:06 - 10:08
    and I was good, again.
  • 10:08 - 10:12
In the first movie I had a lot of attack
from the beginning, so this one
  • 10:12 - 10:16
I didn't actually feel any attack in
    the beginning.
  • 10:16 - 10:21
But after some weeks when I really got
into the editing part, it just came
  • 10:21 - 10:24
    slam, slam, slam.
    All the attacks.
  • 10:24 - 10:30
I got really attacked in the mind.
    It was so weird.
  • 10:30 - 10:33
I just felt, so many times, while I was
    sitting and editing
  • 10:33 - 10:37
I just felt like a big gray cloud came
    over me.
  • 10:37 - 10:47
Everything felt so dark and empty and bad
    I couldn't think, I couldn't concentrate
  • 10:47 - 10:53
    I felt so much depression.
But I just knew that God is faithful.
  • 10:53 - 10:59
If He can lead me out of the first movie
He can do it again this time.
  • 10:59 - 11:08
So I just kept on pressing on again and
again and then in the end, we made it!
  • 11:13 - 11:20
For me it's been a big honor to make
    these movies.
  • 11:20 - 11:24
I didn't know how much of an impact it
    would have on people.
  • 11:24 - 11:28
But to be here on the other side, to see
how many millions have actually seen it
  • 11:28 - 11:32
How many thousands have actually been
    changed by watching
  • 11:32 - 11:41
it's really big for me. It's so amazing
I'm so honored, I'm so honored
  • 11:41 - 11:45
Thankful to God that he can use me for
    that
  • 11:49 - 11:54
It's a really exciting movie. Watch it!
Directed by God, by the Holy Spirit.
