Now, it triggers back to my past! I really liked this question because I think a lot of us can easily get pulled back into old ways of thinking and acting.
I remember when I used to go home for the holidays after being a school all year and I would slide right back into old high school aged Kati. My parents would try to tell me when I could leave and what time I had to be back home, and I would fight them just like I did in high school. I didn’t for a second consider that they were just worried and don’t want me waking them up at 2am as I get back home. I needed to be respectful of their home and space
We are often stuck in old stories or patterns.
How can we change our stories? Because we can! We just have to recognize what ones we are telling ourselves now that aren’t serving us anymore and are instead hurting us or holding us back
We don’t have control over other people AT ALL! But we do have the choice to either fall back into old stories and patterns or force our way out of them.
It takes practice and patience, recognizing the old stories can be the hardest part! Or it could be harder for you to come up with a new one.
Take your time, journal about it, talk with your therapist about it, and come up with a more healthy view of yourself and your situation
Boundaries!!! These are also important so that you can have some distance between you and the people who potentially trigger or support these old unhealthy stories.
