  • 0:04 - 0:06
    My name is Éric Haubruge,
  • 0:06 - 0:08
    I am a professor
at the university of Liège, Belgium
  • 0:08 - 0:11
My duties makes me travel in many places.
  • 0:11 - 0:14
I visit many large cities very often,
  • 0:14 - 0:17
    from Sao Paulo, to Mexico
    or Los Angeles.
  • 0:17 - 0:20
But when you are in Tokyo,
  • 0:20 - 0:25
    you notice that its development
is shaped in a very different model.
  • 0:25 - 0:29
It is based on Japanese pragmatism.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    There is very little waste
    and no littering.
  • 0:31 - 0:35
    Waste management is obviously
    very well organised.
  • 0:35 - 0:38
    Mobility is another aspect
    well organized.
  • 0:38 - 0:42
    In Tokyo, you can move
from one place to another very easily.
  • 0:43 - 0:48
    The focus on public transport,
  • 0:48 - 0:52
    the metro lines, the trains,
  • 0:52 - 0:56
    ここで中断して、やり直しです
  • 1:27 - 1:29
    My name is Éric Haubruge,
  • 1:29 - 1:32
    I am a professor
at the university of Liège, Belgium.
  • 1:32 - 1:37
    My duties makes me travel
in many places around the world,
  • 1:37 - 1:40
    from Sao Paulo, to Mexico
    or Los Angeles.
  • 1:40 - 1:45
But when I am in Tokyo,
I realize that this huge city,
  • 1:45 - 1:49
    with several dozen million inhabitants,
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    is extremely well managed.
  • 1:51 - 1:55
The pragmatism of Japan makes it
possible to have very little waste
  • 1:55 - 1:57
    and mobility is very easy.
  • 1:57 - 2:01
You cannot feel that there is
    such a large population here.
