Interview with Ector Diogenes Cassamá

Ector is the coordinator of the Rising Voices grantee project "Youth Voices of Bandim and Enterramento" in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.

My name is Ector Diogenes Cassamá

I am the coordinator of the Cultural Group Netos de Bandim

which is AMIC's partner in this project Eyes and Voices of the Youth of Bandim and Enterramento

Currently, I am also the coordinator of the project

and our project has the goal to train the youth in communication using the internet

Currently, we have already provided training to the youth in the technical area and information collection for the community

and also we have provided training in the use of digital cameras

the second phase is for the youth to go out into the community and take photos of daily life

related to some problem that they may identify in the community, we are going to organize

a generation gathering of elderly, youth, and children of the neighborhood

to discuss these problems and all of these will be recorded

and published on our blogs, which are already created

with the name "Bairro Bandim" (Neighborhood Bandim) and also the blog of Enterramento

"Bairro Enterramento" (Neighborhood Enterramento)

Anyway, what we are doing is to make known the importance and the richness of Guinea-Bissau

and the positive aspects of the neighborhoods where the project is taking place.

In those neighborhoods, the group Netos de Bandim is already implementing the project

and in the neighborhood of Enterramento, the cultural group Enterramento Unido

is responsible for implementing the project.

And this project, as I was saying, AMIC (Association of the Friends of Children) is the partner.

For the country, it is something new

and the youth and children are not used to communicating via internet

This project will innovate and help the community to be able to communicate

with the outside world.
