Decluttering & Living Light Series| The Basics: Makeup, Clothes, Books

  • 0:00 - 0:09
Okay, so since I made, like, a sort of introduction
to my changing my life/decluttering, I want
  • 0:09 - 0:15
to make a video talking about specifically
the little things that I want to do at this
  • 0:15 - 0:19
second to, uh, get started on that.
  • 0:19 - 0:27
The first video, all I really did was mostly
talk about how I have an issue with hoarding
  • 0:27 - 0:32
a lot of stuff, and if I don’t feel like
I’m hoarding enough, I go out and get something
  • 0:32 - 0:35
to add to my hoarding collection.
  • 0:35 - 0:38
It’s not healthy and it needs to be stopped.
  • 0:39 - 0:48
So, not only do I have to learn how to control
that, I need to declutter and…
  • 0:48 - 0:54
In order to live light, I need to get light
and that means I need to get rid of stuff
  • 0:54 - 0:59
    that I don’t want, that I don’t use. Stuff
I haven’t looked at in literally years.
  • 0:59 - 1:05
The one thing that I definitely need to do
is get rid of everything that I know for a
  • 1:05 - 1:12
fact I have not seen or looked at for literally
one second in like five or something years.
  • 1:12 - 1:18
In my closet, I have, like, bags of little
knickknacks, pieces of paper that I know I
  • 1:18 - 1:20
have not looked at for five years.
  • 1:20 - 1:25
Not since we got evicted from our house and
had to move to an apartment, not since I’ve
  • 1:25 - 1:27
    been in this apartment.
  • 1:27 - 1:32
It was just stuff that I took out of my closet,
put it in a bag, and then shoved it in my
  • 1:32 - 1:38
closet because there was nowhere else to put
it and I haven’t looked at it in two years
  • 1:38 - 1:39
    that I’ve been here.
  • 1:39 - 1:45
I know for a fact that even if I want to keep
it for “sentimental reasons”, I don’t
  • 1:45 - 1:46
    need it.
  • 1:46 - 1:53
It probably would’ve been a lot easier to
just leave it at the house and let the bank
  • 1:53 - 1:54
clean it up, but oh well.
  • 1:55 - 2:00
So that is one of the major things that I
have to work on. I can imagine there is - I
  • 2:00 - 2:05
know there’s one thing or one or two things
that I know I would like to just have, but
  • 2:05 - 2:10
there’s a lot more junk that I know for
a fact that I don’t need to keep.
  • 2:10 - 2:15
There is a dumpster right over there so all
I have to do is take the bag that I have that
  • 2:15 - 2:17
it’s already in and just dump it.
  • 2:17 - 2:21
I know part of me was thinking, “Well, just
go through it and if there’s nothing that
  • 2:21 - 2:23
you know you don’t need or whatever -
  • 2:23 - 2:28
“Just toss it!” But I - Coco from Light
    By Coco said -
  • 2:28 - 2:32
You just want to stuff everything into a box
and if you don’t look at that box, you just
  • 2:32 - 2:39
pick it up and give it away or throw it out.
Don’t look at it because then all the little
  • 2:39 - 2:41
feelings that you had will come back.
  • 2:45 - 2:49
Not only do I have little knickknacks and
stuff, I have boxes and envelopes.
  • 2:50 - 2:52
Now, I had a good reason for this.
  • 2:52 - 2:59
When I do swapping or when I sell stuff, I
    often like to repackage envelopes.
  • 2:59 - 3:04
In the swapping community, it is a very common
thing to repackage envelopes because it helps
  • 3:04 - 3:06
us save on shipping and whatever.
  • 3:06 - 3:13
But I have a lot of, like, actual boxes and
I don’t use boxes all that often because
  • 3:13 - 3:14
it gets more expensive to ship.
  • 3:14 - 3:21
I normally sell smaller stuff now and I just
use regular envelopes so there’s a lot of
  • 3:21 - 3:26
boxes that I just wanted to keep in case I
was selling something or multiple things that
  • 3:26 - 3:26
    would fit in there.
  • 3:27 - 3:31
Some of these boxes I’ve had for over a
year and I haven’t sold anything that would
  • 3:31 - 3:36
ship in those boxes so… yeah.
  • 3:36 - 3:40
I should probably get rid of majority of the
    boxes that I own.
  • 3:46 - 3:52
Makeup. Uhm, I’m still doing my blog sale.
I’m still doing Poshmark so the makeup that
  • 3:52 - 3:58
I don’t want that I can sell, I put on Poshmark
or my blog sale so if anybody wants to go
  • 3:58 - 4:03
look at my blog sale, please look at that
so I can get a little money out of that.
  • 4:07 - 4:14
Clothes. I have what seems to be the hardest
time with parting with clothes. Makeup and
  • 4:14 - 4:16
clothes, I have issues parting with.
  • 4:16 - 4:23
But I know that there’s a lot of clothes
    that I just don’t wear, that I don’t particularly
  • 4:23 - 4:24
    like anymore.
  • 4:24 - 4:28
There’s a lot of stuff on Poshmark that
are clothes that I’ve been trying to sell
  • 4:28 - 4:34
but nobody’s been buying it and I think
instead of just trying to keep on selling
  • 4:34 - 4:40
that for days and weeks and sharing in parties
and having nobody buy it, I’m either gonna
  • 4:40 - 4:41
    - well -
  • 4:41 - 4:45
I’m gonna go through my closet and my drawers
again, take what’s on Poshmark, take
  • 4:45 - 4:50
what I haven't thought about selling yet, and then put
it in a laundry basket to take it to Plato’s
  • 4:50 - 4:55
Closet and then see if they’ll want anything
and whatever they don’t take, I will probably
  • 4:55 - 4:58
just donate the rest to Goodwill or something.
  • 4:58 - 5:02
    There’s a lot of clothes I don’t wear
    anymore whether it’s just that I don’t
  • 5:02 - 5:06
like them or I just wear other things more
    often.
  • 5:07 - 5:11
And when I decluttered a couple times in the
past, I thought, “Oh, I’ll wear that again
  • 5:11 - 5:13
sometime in the future” and I don’t.
  • 5:14 - 5:18
I mean, most of this has to do with the fact
that I rarely leave my apartment.
  • 5:18 - 5:23
So the clothes don’t get a chance to be
worn. The only time I change clothes is for
  • 5:23 - 5:29
videos so I just don’t need a lot of clothes.
I don’t need as much as I seem to think
  • 5:29 - 5:30
    that I do.
  • 5:34 - 5:39
I have a lot of books and I love reading,
    I love having different books.
  • 5:39 - 5:43
But I have a lot of books from childhood that
I - again, I have not looked at in years.
  • 5:43 - 5:48
The books that I have, they’ve been in the
same moving boxes from almost two years ago.
  • 5:48 - 5:50
I have not looked through them.
  • 5:50 - 5:54
I have tried to sell a few on the Internet
but they don’t seem to go.
  • 5:54 - 6:00
So there’s a bookstore here but, uh, they’re
very, very picky about what they buy so I
  • 6:00 - 6:02
might just take my books and donate them.
  • 6:02 - 6:08
When I move out and get my own space, I don’t
want to take a lot with me. I can’t afford
  • 6:08 - 6:15
or I will not have the room to take everything
with me so it’s just best to not have a
  • 6:15 - 6:15
    lot of books.
  • 6:15 - 6:17
    I have so, so many.
  • 6:17 - 6:24
And I have an electronic reading device. I
have the Kindle app and that means that I
  • 6:24 - 6:30
can just get my books as eBooks and it’s
all in a very small electronic reading device
  • 6:30 - 6:37
    and it’s just - it’s all there and it’s
so much easier to carry it around than big,
  • 6:37 - 6:38
    big stacks of books.
  • 6:42 - 6:48
So what I need to do is get rid of all the
    knickknacks that I don’t use.
  • 6:48 - 6:52
And now that I think about it, there’s also
a lot of jewelry that I just don’t wear
  • 6:52 - 6:53
    at all.
  • 6:53 - 6:55
So I don’t need all my jewelry.
  • 6:55 - 6:59
So I gotta get rid of my little knickknacks
    and stuff that’s literally junk.
  • 7:00 - 7:05
I need to sort through my makeup again. I
still have a lot of lipsticks and I know I’m
  • 7:05 - 7:11
not gonna get through all of them so I’m
gonna try my best to declutter that some more.
  • 7:12 - 7:13
But I’ve already decluttered a lot.
  • 7:14 - 7:19
Clothes, I could afford to go through those
again and my books, I think I’m going to
  • 7:19 - 7:26
try to sell the more popular ones. I have
two manga series and a couple more manga volumes
  • 7:26 - 7:32
that I’m gonna try to sell and the rest
like the childhood ones that just aren’t
  • 7:32 - 7:35
really popular, I’m going to probably donate.
  • 7:35 - 7:40
And then when all of that is out of the way,
I am going to try to concentrate as much as
  • 7:40 - 7:45
I can on making sure I don’t continue to
    get a lot of stuff.
  • 7:45 - 7:51
So we’ll see how everything goes in a future
update and I will see you later. Bye.
