Philosophisches Kopfkino - Existenz
-
0:09 - 0:12How do we know that we actually exist
-
0:12 - 0:14and that we are real?
-
0:14 - 0:17Sure, we can look at ourselves
in the mirror, pinch ourselves -
0:17 - 0:19or bang our heads against the wall,
-
0:19 - 0:22But even that, could just be
something that we imagine. -
0:22 - 0:24However, how are we able
to imagine something, -
0:24 - 0:25if we don't exist?
-
0:27 - 0:29And that's how we get to the
crux of the matter: -
0:29 - 0:31When we question reality,
if what we are seeing -
0:31 - 0:34is real or not, there is always us.
-
0:35 - 0:36That isn't up for discussion.
-
0:38 - 0:38But how can we be
certain of our existence? -
0:38 - 0:39Precisely:
-
0:39 - 0:39To be or not be,
that is the question! -
0:39 - 0:40The concept of `being' has the broadest
definition by far, -
0:40 - 0:42because it relates to
everything conceivable. -
0:42 - 0:45Relating to our house, our boat,
our investment advisor -
0:45 - 0:46and, of course, ourselves!
-
0:46 - 0:49"Everything that is conceivable,"
therefore also means: -
0:49 - 0:50everything that "is not".
-
0:50 - 0:52And all of that combined
is infinite! -
0:52 - 0:54Boldly stated:
nothing exists outside of being, -
0:54 - 0:56as everything that exists
is part of being. -
0:56 - 0:58But that is only half the battle
-
0:58 - 0:59Because being isn't
equal to existence. -
0:59 - 1:03In the Middle Ages, a distinction
was made, that "existence", -
1:03 - 1:05which was necessary was the
"necessary existence". -
1:05 - 1:08That which was essential for
everyone and everything -
1:08 - 1:09was the basis for all existence
-
1:09 - 1:11and was naturally named God.
-
1:11 - 1:14There where the necessary lies,
the unnecessary isn't far removed. -
1:14 - 1:17Thus the 2nd kind of the existence
was defined as "not necessary"... -
1:17 - 1:19simply things which nobody needs!
-
1:19 - 1:22USB ashtrays, inflatable cell phone
holders, breakfast eggplants, -
1:22 - 1:25pasta in a cooking bag,
microwave slippers.... okay. -
1:25 - 1:28Besides that which no one needs,
there is also the existence -
1:28 - 1:29of that which is impossible:
-
1:29 - 1:31the "impossible existence".
-
1:31 - 1:33Does that mean that God
is unable to create a boulder -
1:33 - 1:36that he himself cannot lift!!!
-
1:36 - 1:39Then how can something exist
that is more powerful -
2:00 - 2:03than the necessary existence?
-
2:03 - 2:04Kant then came up with sensuality and experience...
-
2:05 - 2:07his sources of understanding!
-
2:07 - 2:09Should that then mean,
-
2:09 - 2:11that things appear to exist,
as we experience them. -
2:11 - 2:15His colleague Hegel saw it like this:
-
2:15 - 2:17The unity of essence
and appearance, -
2:17 - 2:21of essence and existence is reality.
-
2:21 - 2:22So, the being must appear,
then being is existence -
2:22 - 2:26and the existence is being....
Uh…Wait a moment -
2:26 - 2:29So, to summarise:
-
2:29 - 2:31the existence to which the being
attributes itself is the essential being. -
2:31 - 2:34Simply put, the existence.
-
2:34 - 2:37Kierkegaard saw it differently yet again
and thus -
2:37 - 2:39became the founder of the
philosophy of existence: -
2:39 - 2:42"Being itself, to which the being behaves
in a particular way -
2:42 - 2:46and always somehow behaves,
we call existence". -
2:46 - 2:50By this he means that this existence
is quite sufficient. -
2:50 - 2:53It relates only to itself and
not to a great absolute. -
2:53 - 2:57I am me and I am responsible
for getting along with myself. -
2:57 - 3:00What else is …., I don't care!
-
3:00 - 3:03So much to existence.
-
3:03 - 3:05And to not exists at all?
-
3:05 - 3:08Martin Walser once said:
-
3:08 - 3:09"Nothing is true without
its opposite" Whoa! -
3:09 - 3:13So, it's that simple then.
-
3:13 - 3:15
