TUNA FISH RECIPE - BEST TUNA RECIPE

[Upbeat music.]

Grams' cream tuna on toast.

1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup flour,
2 cups milk,

2 cans drained tuna,

salt and pepper,

bread to toast.

Hey, guys.

This is Sal, from
"You Gotta Eat."

I'm going to make
one of my favorite dishes,

that my grandmother,
Theresa, used to make.

Creamed tuna on toast.

So, let's start this recipe.

We gotta make a roux.

First thing we're going to do is,

quarter stick of butter...

Actually it's a HALF stick of butter.

Drop these in there.

Let them melt down.

A little bit at a time,
so your roux doesn't clump.

Now we're going to
whisk in the flour.

If it ever decides
to come out.

Alright. We're
whisking that in.

Whisking a little?
You dumped the whole thing in.

[Woman laughs.]

Alright. You can do that, too.

[Music.]

When you're making a roux,

and you're incorporating liquid in,

you want to make sure

that the liquid doesn't clump up.

So, Sal is going to start pouring in

the next ingredient.

Which is...

milk!

"Does a body good."

Alright. A little at a time.

I remember my grandmother
making this for me,

when I was younger.

She actually showed me how
to make it, one time.

But, this is one of my
favorite dishes, that she made.

It is also an inexpensive
dish to make.

Alright.

At this point, you can start
adding salt and pepper to taste.

Do it to your liking.

I am not a big salt guy, but

we can add it as we go.

And a little pepper.

Alright. Now, at this point,

I already have my toast
in the toaster,

so I'm just going to
drop it down.

Get that going.

Turn my heat up a little bit.

Now I'm adding
my tuna fish.

You can also substitute

canned chicken,

canned salmon,

or fresh lump crab meat.

Now, we just
watch it thicken.

[Woman] I'm sure you've got

someone there who is interested

in any droppings, that might
come her way.

Right, Zee?

You can see it
getting thicker, already.

This is something that
is good for cold winter days,

or a rainy day.

Alright so. We waited a few minutes.

I took a fork, because
i wanted to break up, a little bit,

more of the bigger pieces
of the tuna fish.

It's really starting to
thicken up, now.

Toast is done.

So, I'm going to
shut this off, now.

Alright?

Take it off the heat
for a second.

Grab my toast.

Alright.

You want to make sure,

before you put it
on your toast,

that you put enough
salt and pepper in it,

that it is seasoned good.

It's delicious. Alright.

Now, I'm going to

pour it right over
the toast.

[Music.]

Alright? Beautiful.

There you have it.

[Spoon scrapes pan.]
