I Love/Hate This Global Vaccination Graph - Rosling's Factpod #1
-
0:00 - 0:04This graph, I both love and hate.
-
0:04 - 0:07It shows the % of children in the world
-
0:07 - 0:10that have got vaccinated against measles.
-
0:10 - 0:12Measles is a deadly disease for children.
-
0:12 - 0:14When I worked as a doctor
-
0:14 - 0:18(I was a young doctor
in 1980 in East Africa) -
0:18 - 0:21there were so many children
dying of measles, -
0:21 - 0:22we couldn't save them.
-
0:22 - 0:25Then vaccination came,
-
0:25 - 0:27and in only 10 years here,
-
0:27 - 0:3170% of the children in the world
were vaccinated. -
0:31 - 0:31But look:
-
0:31 - 0:36From 1990 to 2005,
15 years of stagnation! -
0:36 - 0:39Now, in the last 10 years,
-
0:39 - 0:40it's climbing, climbing.
-
0:40 - 0:42What I love
-
0:42 - 0:45is that 84%
of the children of the world -
0:45 - 0:47are vaccinated today.
-
0:47 - 0:48But what I hate
-
0:48 - 0:51is that there is still
this group remaining. -
0:51 - 0:53They live in extreme poverty
-
0:53 - 0:56that can be ended in the next 30 years.
