Common People - Pulp (Easy Songs Beginner Guitar Lesson BS-110) How to play

  • Not Synced
She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
  • Not Synced
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College
  • Not Synced
    That's where I...
  • Not Synced
    ...caught her eye
  • Not Synced
She told me that her Dad was loaded
  • Not Synced
I said "In that case I'll have rhum and Coca-Cola." She said "Fine."
  • Not Synced
    And in thirty
  • Not Synced
    seconds time she said
  • Not Synced
I want to live like common people
  • Not Synced
I want to do whatever common people do
  • Not Synced
I want to sleep with common people
  • Not Synced
I want to sleep with common people like you
  • Not Synced
What else could I do? I said "I'll see what I can do."
  • Not Synced
    Hi, how're you doing?
  • Not Synced
Justin here. Welcome to this easy song from Stage 1
  • Not Synced
    of the Justinguitar Begginer's Songbook
  • Not Synced
The first thing is we're on page 26 and we have
  • Not Synced
a capo on the third fret. That's the third fret
  • Not Synced
if you want to play along with record but if you don't have a capo it's completely cool to play the song
  • Not Synced
without a capo at all and just use the open chords
  • Not Synced
Now being that this is a Stage 1 song we only have 3 chords and that will be
  • Not Synced
A, D and E. So hopefully you're familiar with the chords.
  • Not Synced
I'm not going to go through how to play the chords in this lesson
  • Not Synced
And if you're doing Stage 1 properly you probably know as well that at this point we should really only be
  • Not Synced
thinking about doing very basic "4 down strums in the bar" strumming
  • Not Synced
So I'm going to show you that first and we'll go through the song and make sure
  • Not Synced
you got the right number of bars and all that sort of stuff and then I'll take you through the kind of strumming I was using just then in that little intro part
  • Not Synced
which is called pumping eighth notes really
  • Not Synced
So first the really important thing is how many times do you play each chord
  • Not Synced
Now as you know in this book we write the chord once for each one
  • Not Synced
bar that you should play the chord unless there's little bar lines there so,
  • Not Synced
if you look at this you'll see that the first A chord there
  • Not Synced
is written 4 times so that means we're going to play it 4
  • Not Synced
strums per bar 4 bars, total of 16 strums
  • Not Synced
Now what I'd recommend you do when you start off with these tunes
  • Not Synced
is just to play the 4 down strums for each chord
  • Not Synced
and kind of look at the chord and play them
  • Not Synced
So let's go throught the actual kind of form because once you've got the form right it's repeated through all of the verses there so
  • Not Synced
We're starting with an A chord
  • Not Synced
The intro is just an A chord by the way, you just want to
  • Not Synced
strum it for a couple of bars. If you play along with the record just stay on the A until the singing starts
  • Not Synced
Then we've got this A chord so...
  • Not Synced
    ...it's A-2-3-4 A
  • Not Synced
    -2-3-4 A-2
  • Not Synced
    -3-4 Saint Martin's College
  • Not Synced
    Then we're changing to E...2...3...
  • Not Synced
    ...4...Second time to E...
  • Not Synced
...there's a third time the E is written, and a fourth time
  • Not Synced
the E is written. And then it's back to A...
  • Not Synced
    ...2...3...4. And a second time...2...3...
  • Not Synced
...4. And the third time the E is written
  • Not Synced
And the four strums on each one. That's the fourth time
  • Not Synced
and then to E again. (Moving my head around like a metronome)
