In the early 18th century, India was a global manufacturing powerhouse. Indian agriculture and textile manufacturing had high productivity. In 1750, 25% of the world's manufacturing output was from India; by 1880, it was less than 3%. What caused this decline? This video looks at several factors that may have contributed to this, including drought, the collapse of Mughal rule, British colonization, and barriers to trade.
