Fender Mustang I Amplifier (Guitar Lesson Review GG-602)

  • 0:06 - 0:06
    Hi how you doing?
  • 0:06 - 0:07
    Justin here.
  • 0:07 - 0:09
    In this lesson today
    we are doing a review
  • 0:09 - 0:13
    of the Fender Mustang 1,
  • 0:13 - 0:15
which is a 20 watt amplifier
    with an 8 inch speaker.
  • 0:15 - 0:18
    It's a modeling style amplifier.
  • 0:18 - 0:21
Meaning it kind of sounds like
    loads of different amplifiers.
  • 0:21 - 0:23
It's got some built in effects
    and other fancy stuff.
  • 0:23 - 0:25
    It's also editable via USB.
  • 0:25 - 0:28
Now, most times when a manufacturer
  • 0:28 - 0:29
makes a kind of modeling amp,
  • 0:29 - 0:32
they're going to make their pre-sets
    pretty carefully,
  • 0:32 - 0:35
and they should be the best sounds
    the amplifier can make.
  • 0:35 - 0:37
So what I'm going to do in this lesson
  • 0:37 - 0:39
is just play through all of the pre-sets,
  • 0:39 - 0:42
    which I think there's 24 of
    in this particular amplifier,
  • 0:42 - 0:45
and just kind of jam around a little bit
    with each different sound
  • 0:45 - 0:48
Kind of play a few of the kind of,
    the right stylistic things
  • 0:48 - 0:50
for each of the different kind
    of models.
  • 0:50 - 0:53
I believe that via USB you can
  • 0:53 - 0:55
program up all 24 of those spots,
  • 0:55 - 0:57
    So if you like metal
    you can have 24
  • 0:57 - 0:59
pre-set different kind of metal sounds
    if you like.
  • 0:59 - 1:01
So, we're not going to get
    too much into that,
  • 1:01 - 1:03
I just want to show you the kind
    of the depth
  • 1:03 - 1:05
of sound that this thing's got available.
  • 1:05 - 1:07
Of course you want to get to
    the website because
  • 1:07 - 1:10
    I'm going to have proper
    audio files up there
  • 1:10 - 1:12
delivered to you to listen to
  • 1:12 - 1:14
so you can kind of compare
    the different amplifiers,
  • 1:14 - 1:16
    rather than just listening
    through YouTube,
  • 1:16 - 1:18
    which doesn't have the best
    audio and it kind of,
  • 1:18 - 1:21
    some of the compression features
    aren't that hot
  • 1:21 - 1:22
    on the YouTube audio front.
  • 1:22 - 1:25
So, the pre-sets are arranged into
    3 banks,
  • 1:25 - 1:28
which are the Orange bank, the Green bank
    and the Red bank.
  • 1:28 - 1:30
Each one going A-G and then a hash,
  • 1:30 - 1:34
    So there's kind of 8 different pre-sets
    within each bank.
  • 1:34 - 1:37
So, we're going to be starting with
    Orange A,
  • 1:37 - 1:39
and just work our way through all of them.
  • 1:39 - 1:40
    So, let's get started.
  • 1:40 - 2:15
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange A"]
  • 2:15 - 2:55
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange B"]
  • 2:55 - 3:25
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange C"]
  • 3:25 - 3:45
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange D"]
  • 3:45 - 4:35
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange E"]
  • 4:35 - 5:13
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange F"]
  • 5:13 - 5:54
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange G"]
  • 5:54 - 6:33
[guitar playing with pre-set "Orange #"]
  • 6:33 - 7:13
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green A"]
  • 7:13 - 7:33
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green B"]
  • 7:33 - 7:54
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green C"]
  • 7:54 - 8:07
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green D"]
  • 8:07 - 8:39
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green E"]
  • 8:39 - 9:34
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green F"]
  • 9:34 - 9:55
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green G"]
  • 9:55 - 10:26
[guitar playing with pre-set "Green #"]
  • 10:26 - 10:50
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red A"]
  • 10:50 - 11:28
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red B"]
  • 11:28 - 11:35
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red C"]
  • 11:35 - 11:55
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red D"]
  • 11:55 - 13:06
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red E"]
  • 13:06 - 13:34
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red F"]
  • 13:34 - 14:18
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red G"]
  • 14:18 - 14:57
[guitar playing with pre-set "Red #"]
  • 14:57 - 14:58
    Well, there you have it.
  • 14:58 - 15:00
    There's some of the sounds
that you can get from the
  • 15:00 - 15:03
    Fender Mustang 1 guitar amplifier.
  • 15:03 - 15:04
It's kind of a practice amplifier.
  • 15:04 - 15:06
I guess a good first amplifier.
  • 15:06 - 15:08
Loads better than the kind of amps
  • 15:08 - 15:10
that we got as beginners when
    I was a kid
  • 15:10 - 15:12
    where it just had like,
    one switch for overdrive,
  • 15:12 - 15:14
and even then it was a pretty
    horrible one.
  • 15:14 - 15:17
So, you young guys that are
    getting into guitar now
  • 15:17 - 15:19
have got yourself a real treat
    with this kind of
  • 15:19 - 15:21
    new modeling technology because
    you can hear
  • 15:21 - 15:23
    the sounds are pretty respectable
    for a small
  • 15:23 - 15:25
    kind of sub hundred pound,
    hundred dollar,
  • 15:25 - 15:26
    kind of amplifier.
  • 15:26 - 15:29
    I'm pretty impressed generally.
  • 15:29 - 15:31
This is, this is cool, and I haven't
even got to the computer yet it.
  • 15:31 - 15:36
So, all of the sounds are
    editable via your PC
  • 15:36 - 15:36
    or your computer.
  • 15:36 - 15:38
Hopefully, for Mac as well cause
    that's what I use.
  • 15:38 - 15:40
I'm going to check that out
    a little later,
  • 15:40 - 15:41
    and I'll review,
    I'll put the reviews on
  • 15:41 - 15:43
the website along with all of the
  • 15:43 - 15:45
    technical specifications.
  • 15:45 - 15:46
And the website's probably going to be
  • 15:46 - 15:49
a lot easier for you to compare the
    different amplifiers and stuff.
  • 15:49 - 15:52
I'm going to make some sort of Excel
    spreadsheet thing
  • 15:52 - 15:54
with all of the different practice amps
  • 15:54 - 15:55
    and what they're capable of.
  • 15:55 - 15:57
So I'm hoping that it'll help you
  • 15:57 - 15:58
choose the right amplifier for you.
  • 15:58 - 16:01
    So, I think that's it.
  • 16:01 - 16:04
I'll see you for another review or lesson,
    or something very soon.
  • 16:04 - 16:05
Take care of yourself. Bye bye.
