Today we talk about Emetophobia and how to treat it. Emetophobia (still not completely sure about the pronunciation of it) is the fear of vomiting or becoming sick in public. This fear can be so intense that people won't leave their house for fear of becoming sick in public and the embarrassment that could occur because of that. Some women have even reported that they have put off having children because the the fear of having morning sickness. I think that this could easily lead to or exacerbate an eating disorder, so if you feel this is something you are struggling with, please get help!
The treatment options are EMDR (if your emetophobia comes from a past trauma) because this can help your brain heal itself and reprocess the trauma so it's not still affecting your everyday life. The second treatment option is CBT. This will help whether or not your emetophobia is trauma based or not because it focuses on changing your falsely held beliefs. So the belief that becoming sick would equal complete embarrassment and horror, would need to be slowly challenged and overcome.
