Xiao Yan Zi and Zi Wei agreed to help Consort Xiang deliver a message to Meng Dan, and therefore they disguised themselves as eunuchs before slipping out of the Palace. After listening to the touching love story between Meng Dan and Consort Xiang, everybody unanimously agreed to devise an elaborate plan to free Consort Xiang in the future. Unknown to Xiao Yan Zi and the others, the Empress Dowager soon got wind of their short trip. Subsequently, they returned home to face the music again for embarking on their unauthorized outing and violating traditional norms inside the Palace. This time, the servants of ShuFangZhai would bear the brunt of the Empress Dowager's wrath.

Returning Pearl Princess, or My Fair Princess, is a Chinese television series adapted from Chiung Yao's novel series. Produced by Hunan TV, the series centres around the legend of Huan Zhu Ge Ge during the reign of Qianlong Emperor.

Translation note:

1. "Heaven and Earth will last forever, home will only be where we can stay together in love." at 14:23
(天地悠悠，有情相守才是家, tiān dì yōu yōu, yǒu qíng xiāng shǒu cái shì jiā)
- Heaven and Earth may last forever but either realm will be our home only if we stay together and love each other.

2. Red Dusty Roads (红尘路, hóng chén lù) at 14:38
- An ubiquitous literary device that describes earthly experiences and worldly journeys. Its origin lies in how reddish dust (from fine sand and topsoil) are thrown up by horses and carriages traveling on unpaved paths and tracks.

3. Examples of Superstitions
- At 3:14, "I don't want... any disaster to befall the Palace (from the spilling of blood)".
- At 40:44, "15th Prince isn't one month old yet, so I implore the Dowager to accumulate good deeds for the baby Prince."
