One Minute Changes (Guitar Lesson BC-124) Guitar for beginners Stage 2
-
0:08 - 0:09Ok we've checked out some minor chords.
-
0:09 - 0:12Now we are going to check
how to change between them. -
0:12 - 0:14As we already discovered,
-
0:14 - 0:16doing those one minute changes
is a really good way to go. -
0:16 - 0:18Now that we have added
those other three chords, -
0:18 - 0:21suddenly we've got quite
a few more different combinations -
0:21 - 0:23that we could be doing.
-
0:23 - 0:25So, what I am going to do
is give you some suggested combinations. -
0:25 - 0:30But remember that : if there are any of these
that you find really really easy -
0:30 - 0:33and you find another combination really hard,
-
0:33 - 0:36then you should substitute
that one that you find hard. -
0:36 - 0:38Because, remember,
I will repeat it again -
0:38 - 0:42You should always practice what you can't do;
don't practice what you can. -
0:42 - 0:46So let's go through the combination
and I will give you the reasoning -
0:46 - 0:48why I think they might be a good one to work on.
-
0:48 - 0:52So the first combination in our list is
A minor to E. -
0:52 - 0:54And the reason we are looking at
A minor to E -
0:54 - 0:59is because it is essentially the same shape
lifting up and moving strings. -
0:59 - 1:02Now, I know I make this look kind of easy
-
1:02 - 1:05because I have done this chord change
several million times in my life already. -
1:05 - 1:09Now you can see that the idea here
is that the whole chord shape is staying. -
1:09 - 1:11It's just lifting up
-
1:11 - 1:14and the hand kind of moves and then lifts up
and then moves back. -
1:14 - 1:16Now, I don't know how many of those
I can do in a minute -
1:16 - 1:18but it will definitely be a lot.
-
1:18 - 1:21So the thing I want you to work on here
is just lifting up the chord shape, -
1:21 - 1:23moving over and pressing down,
-
1:23 - 1:26and trying to keep the fingers relative
to each other. -
1:26 - 1:30And that looks easy,
but you will probably find yourself going like that -
1:30 - 1:31and then you've lost it already.
-
1:31 - 1:34So you have to replace it
somewhere at times. -
1:34 - 1:36So try to get them to move as a group.
-
1:36 - 1:39The second change
that I've got here on your list is -
1:39 - 1:41A minor to D minor.
-
1:41 - 1:45Now, the actual change isn't
particularly difficult -
1:45 - 1:47but you've got to get
that third figure stretched out. -
1:47 - 1:51So, first finger and second finger
stay relative to each other. -
1:51 - 1:55The third finger has to jump forward
and that can be quite tricky. -
1:55 - 1:57So that's the reason you've got
that second one. -
1:57 - 2:00It's to get used to that third finger
jumping forward like that. -
2:00 - 2:03Of course, I know you should be
strumming each chord. -
2:03 - 2:05I'm just making the movement
so I can talk -
2:05 - 2:08and you won't get distracted by me playing
while i'm doing it. -
2:08 - 2:11Ok. the next one we've got on the list is
-
2:11 - 2:14A to D minor.
-
2:14 - 2:17Now, the good thing with this one
is that you've got a third finger anchor. -
2:17 - 2:19So there's your A chord.
-
2:19 - 2:21Now to get to D minor,
first and second fingers comes off. -
2:21 - 2:24Third finger comes forward
and then first and second go down. -
2:24 - 2:28So, you are trying to leave
that third finger down for these changes. -
2:28 - 2:34You should find that it makes
doing that chord change considerably easier -
2:34 - 2:37than the other ones
because you've got that anchor finger. -
2:37 - 2:40And an anchor finger
is always a good thing to do. -
2:40 - 2:44Now, the other two I've got written
down here on my list are E to D -
2:44 - 2:47Now E to D,
lift off, shift forward. -
2:47 - 2:49We've already been doing that one
-
2:49 - 2:51so that gets you used to doing
that chord change -
2:51 - 2:52which you've already done.
-
2:52 - 2:54If that was one
that you found very easy, -
2:54 - 2:56change it for one that you do find difficult.
-
2:56 - 2:59And the last one
E minor to D. -
2:59 - 3:02So we've got here,
E minor to D. -
3:02 - 3:05Now, you've probably
got used to doing E -
3:05 - 3:07where you've got that little anchor finger,
-
3:07 - 3:09but with E minor you don't have that.
-
3:09 - 3:12So it gives you a bit of an example
-
3:12 - 3:17of how much easier it makes it
when you've got yourself an anchor finger. -
3:18 - 3:21I'm sure you'll enjoy
this next set of one minute changes. -
3:21 - 3:23Please remember : try to do it often.
-
3:23 - 3:26Try to do a little bit of these
one minute changes every day. -
3:26 - 3:28It's only five minutes a day.
It's not a huge amount of time. -
3:28 - 3:31But it makes such a big difference
if you're training on this regularly -
3:31 - 3:33and you are really working
on getting those chords moving -
3:33 - 3:34as fast as you can.
-
3:34 - 3:38You really will notice that suddenly
you will be able to get to this point -
3:38 - 3:41where we play songs
and it will actually work -
3:41 - 3:45if you have to change
in a way that makes it musical. -
3:45 - 3:46And that's kind of what we are looking for.
-
3:46 - 3:47Nice, quick changes.
-
3:47 - 3:49So, now, get to it,
-
3:49 - 3:52do some practice
and work on them really really fast. -
3:52 - 3:54See you soon.
