One Minute Changes (Guitar Lesson BC-124) Guitar for beginners Stage 2

  • 0:08 - 0:09
Ok we've checked out some minor chords.
  • 0:09 - 0:12
Now we are going to check
    how to change between them.
  • 0:12 - 0:14
    As we already discovered,
  • 0:14 - 0:16
    doing those one minute changes
is a really good way to go.
  • 0:16 - 0:18
    Now that we have added
    those other three chords,
  • 0:18 - 0:21
    suddenly we've got quite
    a few more different combinations
  • 0:21 - 0:23
    that we could be doing.
  • 0:23 - 0:25
So, what I am going to do
is give you some suggested combinations.
  • 0:25 - 0:30
But remember that : if there are any of these
that you find really really easy
  • 0:30 - 0:33
and you find another combination really hard,
  • 0:33 - 0:36
    then you should substitute
that one that you find hard.
  • 0:36 - 0:38
    Because, remember,
    I will repeat it again
  • 0:38 - 0:42
    You should always practice what you can't do;
    don't practice what you can.
  • 0:42 - 0:46
So let's go through the combination
and I will give you the reasoning
  • 0:46 - 0:48
why I think they might be a good one to work on.
  • 0:48 - 0:52
So the first combination in our list is
    A minor to E.
  • 0:52 - 0:54
And the reason we are looking at
    A minor to E
  • 0:54 - 0:59
is because it is essentially the same shape
    lifting up and moving strings.
  • 0:59 - 1:02
Now, I know I make this look kind of easy
  • 1:02 - 1:05
because I have done this chord change
several million times in my life already.
  • 1:05 - 1:09
Now you can see that the idea here
is that the whole chord shape is staying.
  • 1:09 - 1:11
    It's just lifting up
  • 1:11 - 1:14
and the hand kind of moves and then lifts up
    and then moves back.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
Now, I don't know how many of those
I can do in a minute
  • 1:16 - 1:18
but it will definitely be a lot.
  • 1:18 - 1:21
So the thing I want you to work on here
is just lifting up the chord shape,
  • 1:21 - 1:23
    moving over and pressing down,
  • 1:23 - 1:26
and trying to keep the fingers relative
    to each other.
  • 1:26 - 1:30
    And that looks easy,
but you will probably find yourself going like that
  • 1:30 - 1:31
and then you've lost it already.
  • 1:31 - 1:34
So you have to replace it
    somewhere at times.
  • 1:34 - 1:36
So try to get them to move as a group.
  • 1:36 - 1:39
    The second change
that I've got here on your list is
  • 1:39 - 1:41
    A minor to D minor.
  • 1:41 - 1:45
    Now, the actual change isn't
    particularly difficult
  • 1:45 - 1:47
    but you've got to get
    that third figure stretched out.
  • 1:47 - 1:51
So, first finger and second finger
    stay relative to each other.
  • 1:51 - 1:55
The third finger has to jump forward
and that can be quite tricky.
  • 1:55 - 1:57
So that's the reason you've got
    that second one.
  • 1:57 - 2:00
It's to get used to that third finger
    jumping forward like that.
  • 2:00 - 2:03
Of course, I know you should be
    strumming each chord.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    I'm just making the movement
    so I can talk
  • 2:05 - 2:08
and you won't get distracted by me playing
    while i'm doing it.
  • 2:08 - 2:11
Ok. the next one we've got on the list is
  • 2:11 - 2:14
    A to D minor.
  • 2:14 - 2:17
Now, the good thing with this one
is that you've got a third finger anchor.
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    So there's your A chord.
  • 2:19 - 2:21
Now to get to D minor,
first and second fingers comes off.
  • 2:21 - 2:24
    Third finger comes forward
and then first and second go down.
  • 2:24 - 2:28
So, you are trying to leave
that third finger down for these changes.
  • 2:28 - 2:34
You should find that it makes
doing that chord change considerably easier
  • 2:34 - 2:37
    than the other ones
because you've got that anchor finger.
  • 2:37 - 2:40
    And an anchor finger
is always a good thing to do.
  • 2:40 - 2:44
Now, the other two I've got written
down here on my list are E to D
  • 2:44 - 2:47
    Now E to D,
    lift off, shift forward.
  • 2:47 - 2:49
We've already been doing that one
  • 2:49 - 2:51
so that gets you used to doing
    that chord change
  • 2:51 - 2:52
    which you've already done.
  • 2:52 - 2:54
    If that was one
    that you found very easy,
  • 2:54 - 2:56
change it for one that you do find difficult.
  • 2:56 - 2:59
    And the last one
    E minor to D.
  • 2:59 - 3:02
    So we've got here,
    E minor to D.
  • 3:02 - 3:05
    Now, you've probably
    got used to doing E
  • 3:05 - 3:07
where you've got that little anchor finger,
  • 3:07 - 3:09
but with E minor you don't have that.
  • 3:09 - 3:12
So it gives you a bit of an example
  • 3:12 - 3:17
of how much easier it makes it
when you've got yourself an anchor finger.
  • 3:18 - 3:21
    I'm sure you'll enjoy
this next set of one minute changes.
  • 3:21 - 3:23
Please remember : try to do it often.
  • 3:23 - 3:26
Try to do a little bit of these
    one minute changes every day.
  • 3:26 - 3:28
It's only five minutes a day.
It's not a huge amount of time.
  • 3:28 - 3:31
But it makes such a big difference
if you're training on this regularly
  • 3:31 - 3:33
    and you are really working
    on getting those chords moving
  • 3:33 - 3:34
    as fast as you can.
  • 3:34 - 3:38
You really will notice that suddenly
you will be able to get to this point
  • 3:38 - 3:41
    where we play songs
    and it will actually work
  • 3:41 - 3:45
    if you have to change
in a way that makes it musical.
  • 3:45 - 3:46
And that's kind of what we are looking for.
  • 3:46 - 3:47
    Nice, quick changes.
  • 3:47 - 3:49
    So, now, get to it,
  • 3:49 - 3:52
    do some practice
and work on them really really fast.
  • 3:52 - 3:54
    See you soon.
