0:01 - 0:08You just want to- to step out of it
to step out of the whole race, the whole -
0:08 - 0:15business, the- the monstrosity of being
alive overwhelms you. If you have depression -
0:15 - 0:19if you have anxiety, if you have
post-traumatic stress disorder, if you -
0:19 - 0:23have any kind of mental health condition,
this is not something to ignore. -
0:23 - 0:30Depression, frustration, anxiety, pain
disillusion, it's just a natural part of -
0:30 - 0:36the process of becoming a stronger
version of yourself. The thing that keeps one -
0:36 - 0:41living is a sense of future. That there
will be a tomorrow and tomorrow I've got to do -
0:41 - 0:47this and then the day after I've got to
do that. Get started -
0:47 - 0:53and I'm gonna tell you right now, it
won't be easy. It will be hard because -
0:53 - 1:02life is hard. That's what life is. With
depression, one of the most important -
1:02 - 1:06things you can realize is that you're
not alone. I have been places and someone -
1:06 - 1:09has said well you lost an arm and a leg so you
have a right to be depressed and I -
1:09 - 1:15stopped and I was like depression is real. No
matter what you're going through right -
1:15 - 1:20now it doesn't mean that it's not gonna end.
I think too often we're thinking about -
1:20 - 1:24the stresses that we're dealt with right
now and we think that there's no light -
1:24 - 1:29at the end of the tunnel. All that you
can see is darkness and everything that -
1:29 - 1:35you try to do just kicks you right back
in the face and you just can't seem to -
1:35 - 1:40get yourself up. You don't even have to
go through something traumatic. Some are -
1:40 - 1:43caused by you know, something traumatic
some can be a chemical imbalance in the -
1:43 - 1:52brain. There is light at the end of the
tunnel. Life is hard. Life is challenging. -
1:52 - 1:59There are ups and downs and these
challenges- these challenges that you -
1:59 - 2:08face they're gonna do their best to take
you down. Do not let them. -
2:08 - 2:12Of course you have to work, of course you
have to show up, your team needs you, life -
2:12 - 2:17needs you, your family needs you, life is
for the living. -
2:17 - 2:22Depression is not only normal, it's
essential and be grateful for it because -
2:22 - 2:26it allows you to reorder yourself at a
higher level. -
2:26 - 2:35I speak what's on my heart and I gave my
speech and as I was closing, I kind of -
2:35 - 2:39mentioned some depression because I was
I was coming out of the winter months -
2:39 - 2:42and it hit me again this past winter
and I went and saw the doctor -
2:42 - 2:46so it was on my mind and it came up and
as I was saying, I thought this -
2:46 - 2:50generation of people probably aren't
connecting to what I'm saying. When I -
2:50 - 2:55walked off the stage and they lined up
the amount of people that thanked me -
2:55 - 2:59for talking about mental health and here
I was- I thought they didn't want to hear it I -
2:59 - 3:02thought I was stepping out of line. No it
needs to be talked about because it's -
3:02 - 3:07not just this generation, it's- people are
realizing more and more there's an issue -
3:07 - 3:11and the more we talk about it the easier
it is for people to be honest with -
3:11 - 3:18themselves and get the help they need.
Line up those problems and confront them. -
3:18 - 3:26Face them, fight them. Do not let them
bring you down, do not personally -
3:26 - 3:32identify with your depression.
See it as you see winter and winter -
3:32 - 3:37always leads to spring and summer again,
see it as you see nighttime. Nighttime -
3:37 - 3:41becomes
daytime again. Hold on to that -
3:41 - 3:47fundamental quality of faith
and on the other side of your pain is -
3:47 - 3:52something good. Suicide is a permanent
solution to a temporary problem. No -
3:52 - 3:57matter what you're going through right
now doesn't mean that it's not gonna end. -
3:57 - 4:05Stand up, dig in
let those challenges raise you up, let them -
4:05 - 4:13elevate you, let their demands and their
trials make you stronger. Adversity you -
4:13 - 4:22face today turning you into a better person
tomorrow. You are worth more than -
4:22 - 4:28diamonds, all the diamonds in the world
you are so precious, every single one of -
4:28 - 4:34your hearts. You can do something. Life is
not always good, life is always not rosy -
4:34 - 4:42but life is worth living. There's one thing
one thing that if you did every single -
4:42 - 4:46day it would make an extraordinary
difference in whatever mental health -
4:46 - 4:50issue you're struggling with and that is
exercise and the reason you've gotta -
4:50 - 4:54exercise every day is because what we
know about human beings is that when you -
4:54 - 5:02physically move, your physiology changes
and that changes your brain. Take the -
5:02 - 5:08time to rest
because just what if that resting is the -
5:08 - 5:17key to world-class producing? Get outside
and exercise every single day as if your -
5:17 - 5:22life depends upon it because you know
what? It does. Your brain needs it -
5:22 - 5:28your body needs it, your mental health needs it and I feel like if you had
-
5:28 - 5:32heart problems and saw a cardiologist
well everyone would be concerned about you -
5:32 - 5:36and know you're doing better and it
would be open and honest with the crew -
5:36 - 5:40but the most complicated organ in your
body, if you have a problem with it -
5:40 - 5:44suddenly there's a- we don't want to talk
about that? No and you can get over it and -
5:44 - 5:50that's what people need to realize. You
can be cured, you can get past it. I -
5:50 - 5:55assure you
the clouds will lift, right? There is -
5:55 - 5:59sunlight above the clouds, you're just
looking at the clouds right now and they -
5:59 - 6:03will lift and crisis has come to teach
you the big lesson you're meant to learn -
6:03 - 6:10to move to your next level in the next
chapter of your greatest life. This -
6:10 - 6:15depression will pass. It will go away
and something much better will take its -
6:15 - 6:20place but for right now all that you
really need to know is that you have to -
6:20 - 6:28make it through. Getting your heart rate
up, getting outside, breathing, feeling -
6:28 - 6:31connected, getting out of your house
which may make you feel depressed and -
6:31 - 6:38trapped. The man I am with you right now
as I speak with as much authenticity as -
6:38 - 6:44I know how to share is the result of my
times in the valley of darkness. -
6:45 - 6:50Doing that everyday, that physical push
you don't have to run, you don't have to -
6:50 - 6:54go to an aerobics class- class get
outside with your dog in the woods, walk -
6:54 - 6:58with a good friend for two or three
miles, doing that every single day not -
6:58 - 7:02only moves your body which changes your
mind it gets you out of your physical -
7:02 - 7:05environment which is one of the things
that people with depression tend to have -
7:05 - 7:09a hard time doing and it also creates a
bit of momentum and a bit of a routine -
7:09 - 7:14in your life. Every time I experience a
bout of depression I come out on the -
7:14 - 7:20other end a different person, doing
different things but it's because I'm -
7:20 - 7:24aware of what's happening and I'm
looking, I'm aware, I want to see the -
7:24 - 7:28opportunities as they present themselves
to me instead of falling into the depths -
7:28 - 7:33of a spiral down depression because I'm
personally identifying with what is -
7:33 - 7:39happening when I'm upset and your
schedule is not full and you actually -
7:39 - 7:44feel like you're wasting your life
because you're not this epic producer. -
7:44 - 7:51What if those times were actually a
different form of productivity, what if -
7:51 - 7:56those times were actually being
productive in a different way where -
7:56 - 8:00you're actually producing not in the
world but producing within yourself -
8:00 - 8:04producing strengths, producing new
insights, producing new ideas, producing -
8:04 - 8:09new capabilities, producing new energies
producing new emotions, shifting from -
8:09 - 8:12fear to love because when you go through
difficult times what do you really do if -
8:12 - 8:16you feel your fear and your pain? You
release it. It's out of your system and -
8:16 - 8:20you grow in love and bravery and
strength, what does that do to your craft -
8:20 - 8:23what does that do to your power, what
does that do to your bravery, what does -
8:23 - 8:27that do to the light that you bring into
the world? You become this incredible -
8:27 - 8:33force that is undefeatable.
I suggest to you that if you are facing -
8:33 - 8:38a challenge
don't stop. Stay busy, work your plan -
8:38 - 8:41continue to do those things that you
know that work for you after you have -
8:41 - 8:46evaluated yourself in the situation.
Continue to move, stay busy, stay busy -
8:46 - 8:53stay busy. You are part of a larger
cosmos whether you know it or not and -
8:53 - 8:59communing with nature allows you not to
see the bars of the prison cell but the -
8:59 - 9:04stars of the universe and if you can
connect with those every day, my dear -
9:04 - 9:12friend you will use your pain as an
instrument for your greatest growth and then -
9:12 - 9:15you try something new and then you'll
also go to school and people will put -
9:15 - 9:17you down and parents will tell you that
you're a failure because you failed at a test -
9:17 - 9:23and you start believing the lies
around you saying that you're not good -
9:23 - 9:26enough and no one's gonna want you and
you'll never ever do anything good in -
9:26 - 9:30your life and you'll never ever- you know
achieve the dreams and goals -
9:30 - 9:36that you wish you had done, or wish that you could do and these steps take you
-
9:36 - 9:41closer. That voice saying you're not good
enough, you're not good enough, you're not -
9:41 - 9:47good enough and all you need is one more
step to fall so you have a choice to -
9:47 - 9:51know which step you're gonna take today.
-
9:53 - 10:00I want you to know that no matter where
you are in life, no matter how low you -
10:00 - 10:05have sunk
no matter how bleak your situation, this -
10:05 - 10:14is not the end. This is not the end of
your story, this is not the final chapter -
10:14 - 10:24of your life, I know it may be hard right
now but if you just hang in there, stick -
10:24 - 10:31it out, stay with me for a little while
you will find that this tough moment -
10:31 - 10:38will pass and if you are committed to
using this pain, using it to build your -
10:38 - 10:47character, finding a greater meaning for
the pain, you will find that in time you -
10:47 - 10:58can turn your life around and help
others going through the same struggles. -
10:58 - 11:01The world right now is in the middle of
a mental health crisis. -
11:01 - 11:06It's estimated almost half the
population suffers from depression at -
11:06 - 11:11some stage throughout their life rather
than join the queue, it's important we -
11:11 - 11:18learn why we get down and then how we
can change it because believe it or not -
11:18 - 11:23we create our own negative feelings and
we can also ensure that we turn our -
11:23 - 11:29lives around and be a positive change
for others. The reason anyone gets -
11:29 - 11:34depressed always comes down to the
consistent thoughts we think and the -
11:34 - 11:40consistent beliefs we hold. Let me say
that again. The reason anyone gets -
11:40 - 11:46depressed always comes down to the
consistent thoughts we think and the -
11:46 - 11:52consistent beliefs we hold. The point
here is that anyone that is depressed is -
11:52 - 11:57so because there is an external factor
that didn't materialize in their life. -
11:57 - 12:02They have lost something outside of
their control or don't have something -
12:02 - 12:07that is out of their control.
In school we are taught how to get a job -
12:07 - 12:13but no one teaches us how to live in a
state of happiness. No one teaches us how -
12:13 - 12:18important our conscious and unconscious
thoughts and associations are. Is our -
12:18 - 12:24happiness not worth more than a job? Yes
it is and before you say happiness won't -
12:24 - 12:28pay my bills,
happiness will pay your bills. When you -
12:28 - 12:32realize you will be 10 times more
energized, focused and take positive -
12:32 - 12:36action in your life when you first
choose to develop yourself as a priority -
12:36 - 12:43and then get to the stuff of the world.
I've seen some people who many would -
12:43 - 12:47consider to have it all in their life
because they thought they were not good -
12:47 - 12:53enough, a though,t a belief within them
told them they were not worthy. These -
12:53 - 12:59people that many were jealous of, many
envious of, were not good enough. -
12:59 - 13:06You must value yourself enough to take
the time every single day to work on you -
13:06 - 13:11to engage in something that will ensure
you are a positive influence on the -
13:11 - 13:14world.
This of course doesn't mean life will -
13:14 - 13:19suddenly be perfect, the same life
challenges will show up but if your mind -
13:19 - 13:25is strong, if your mind is at peace, your
reaction to the challenging times will -
13:25 - 13:31be very different. Your reaction will be
how can I make this work, not why is this -
13:31 - 13:35happening to me
and then others will look to you not -
13:35 - 13:39with pity but with hope
-
13:39 - 13:45because your strength will become their
hope, their strength. You really can be -
13:45 - 13:50that powerful. You can ditch the victim
story, you can leave the pain behind and -
13:50 - 13:58focus on how you will react next, how you
will react positively. -
13:58 - 14:04Read, read all you can read to get your
mind in a positive place, take steps to -
14:04 - 14:08ensure you will be in a better position
next time, whatever pain you are -
14:08 - 14:13suffering from how you can ensure it
won't show again. Take little steps and -
14:13 - 14:19soon you will be at the top of the
staircase. Don't give up, you are worthy -
14:19 - 14:26you are more than worthy, you deserve to
experience how great life can be and you -
14:26 - 14:32owe it to the world to be that positive
change for others, to inspire others who -
14:32 - 14:40will look to you and say he did it, she
did it and I can do it too.
