-
- In my math classes, I typically assign
-
about two to three Khan
assignments per week.
-
To review my students' data,
-
I use the Assignments Reports feature.
-
What's really neat about
this is it's color coded.
-
For students who are doing well,
-
they have their score in a green box.
-
Students who are maybe
needing additional help are
-
in the yellow, and
students who are struggling
-
with this content have
a red-colored square.
-
This makes it very easy to
identify student progress
-
and able to see which students
-
will need an additional assistance
-
or perhaps a Khan video to watch
-
to help them better
understand the content.
-
The students who earn the green scores
-
may be ready for an extension
-
or more challenging assignment
or a video to watch.
-
- As a warmup,
-
I have used Khan Academy
to give the students
-
a little snippet of a
video and some questions,
-
and I look at the color code
-
to see how the students are performing
-
and that way I can see where they are
-
before I start their lesson.
-
So that's how I use Khan
Academy as a warm-up
-
before I teach a new lesson to students.

-
- I will use the Responses Report
-
when I click on a student's score
-
to see exactly how they responded
to individual questions,
-
and we may look at that as a whole class,
-
at how the whole class responded
-
to each individual
question on an assignment
-
and make sure that we don't have
-
any misconceptions as a class.
-
I've also used it on a one-on-one basis,
-
where if a student has
struggled with an assignment,
-
I will call them over
to my desk or go to them
-
and we will look at exactly what it was
-
that they were missing,
why they were missing it,
-
and hopefully correct that misconception.

-
- So with my assignments,
-
I have them at least three attempts
-
or if they attempt it one time
and it is a passing grade,
-
normally about an 80 or above,
-
because we wanna have
those high expectations,
-
then they don't have to
continue to attempt it
-
to get a better grade
if they're okay with it.
-
Some students will because
they want that higher grade.
-
With ours, it's depending on the concept.
-
If I go to the reports and
they've attempted it three times
-
and they're still only
getting one out of four right,
-
I know that that's a problem area
-
and I'm gonna wanna pull them
-
and hit a mini-lesson or
work with them one on one
-
to figure out, hey,
what's about this concept?
-
Do we need a different type of video?
-
Do we need more practice?
-
Do I need to review with you
one on one so you can see me?
-
So that's one way I use the reports.
-
Another way is to show students' growth.
-
That they see what I started
-
and where I ended and the growth between,
-
and even if they don't make
a 100 on a final assessment,
-
I can pull up a report
for their first attempt
-
and last attempt on Khan Academy
-
and they can see their growth,
-
and that just reemphasizes my motto
-
of progress over perfection.
