September 30 - Refocusing on Mission
-
0:12 - 0:17The Seventh-day Adventist Mission flame
was lit more than 150 years ago -
0:18 - 0:22in a handful of rural towns and villages
in Northeast America. -
0:23 - 0:27Soon, that flame was spreading
around the world. -
0:27 - 0:31But it only happened because
dedicated Seventh-day Adventists -
0:31 - 0:35looked beyond their own needs
to a world in need. -
0:36 - 0:40Because of Seventh-day Adventists,
who said, “I will go.” -
0:40 - 0:42“I will go beyond my home,
-
0:42 - 0:44beyond my country,
-
0:44 - 0:46beyond my language,
-
0:46 - 0:48beyond my own people
-
0:48 - 0:52to light the flame among those
who have never heard.” -
0:53 - 0:55Many of those faithful missionaries
-
0:55 - 0:59gave their lives
for the salvation of others. -
0:59 - 1:01They never came home.
-
1:02 - 1:06The Seventh-day Adventist Church
was founded on sacrifice. -
1:06 - 1:08It grew through sacrifice.
-
1:08 - 1:13And it will only continue to grow
through sacrifice. -
1:13 - 1:17The selfless sacrifice
of those who still believe -
1:17 - 1:21that this gospel of the Kingdom
must be preached in all the world -
1:21 - 1:24as a witness to all nations.
-
1:24 - 1:26More than 30 years ago,
-
1:26 - 1:30the General Conference Annual Council
voted a document entitled -
1:30 - 1:34Global Strategy
of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. -
1:34 - 1:37That document explored
the mission challenge -
1:37 - 1:39still facing the church.
-
1:40 - 1:42It opened with these words:
-
1:42 - 1:45“The figures are stark, unrelenting:
-
1:45 - 1:48world population 5.3 billion,
-
1:48 - 1:53Seventh-day Adventist world membership
more than 6 million.” -
1:54 - 1:59The document outlined a strategy
to refocus the church's mission. -
1:59 - 2:05To refocus on unreached territories
and unreached people groups. -
2:05 - 2:08To refocus people and funds.
-
2:08 - 2:10To reach the unreached with hope
-
2:10 - 2:14and plant new groups of believers
on new mission frontiers. -
2:16 - 2:19That refocus was voted the following year
-
2:19 - 2:23at the General Conference Session
in Indianapolis. -
2:23 - 2:26The refocus was called Global Mission.
-
2:26 - 2:32I don't think we have ever sat down
to discuss a subject of greater importance -
2:32 - 2:34than global mission.
-
2:35 - 2:38And global mission requires a strategy
-
2:38 - 2:41in order to carry the message
of God's love, -
2:41 - 2:43the saving grace of Christ
and His soon coming -
2:43 - 2:46to every nation, kindred,
tongue, and people. -
2:46 - 2:51A global mission and a global strategy
which extends from continent to continent, -
2:51 - 2:54country to country, city to city,
-
2:54 - 2:57group to group,
and ultimately person to person. -
2:59 - 3:04Today, as we look at our mission challenge
more than 30 years later, -
3:04 - 3:08the figures are still stark, unrelenting.
-
3:08 - 3:13We rejoice to see new groups of believers
planted in the 10/40 Window, -
3:13 - 3:16in the city, among other religious groups,
-
3:16 - 3:19among the secular and post-Christian.
-
3:19 - 3:23But the time has come
for another mission refocus. -
3:24 - 3:27A time for aligning our hearts and minds,
-
3:27 - 3:31our people, our resources, our budgets,
-
3:31 - 3:36"To Reach the Unreached with Hope."
- Title:
- September 30 - Refocusing on Mission
- Description:
-
We rejoice to see new groups of believers planted in the 10/40 Window, in the city, among other religious groups, among the secular and post-Christian. But the time has come for another mission refocus. A time for aligning our hearts and minds, our people, our resources, our budgets to reach the unreached with hope.
