-
Hello, and welcome
to Canada's National Ballet School
-
and our 2019 Sharing Dance Day
choreography.
-
This year, NBS commissioned two artists,
-
Esie Mensah
and Philippe-Alexandre Jacques,
-
to create a choreography
that explores how our cultural,
-
familial and community roots
shape our identity.
-
We know that our roots grow over time,
-
deepening and moving
in different directions
-
as they're affected
by the elements around them.
-
So too our identity is shaped
by the traditions of our past,
-
but also our new experiences.
-
So we hope, if this is
a new experience for you,
-
you'll enjoy dancing with us.
-
My name is Ashley,
-
and I'm really thrilled
that I'm going to be guiding you
-
through these video lessons.
-
As I dance along with you,
-
our rights and lefts are going to match,
like I'm your mirror.
-
So, when I wave my right hand,
you wave your right hand, too.
-
This is all about having fun
and moving together,
-
so if you need to make
any adaptations or modifications,
-
please feel free.
-
I hope you enjoy this experience
with NBS Sharing Dance.
