Kids are speaking up for the environment. Let's listen

  • 0:01 - 0:02
    My name is Olafur Eliasson.
  • 0:02 - 0:04
    I'm an artist.
  • 0:04 - 0:07
    I work with natural phenomena,
  • 0:07 - 0:09
    the weather,
  • 0:09 - 0:12
    climate, environment
  • 0:12 - 0:14
and our future, one could say.
  • 0:14 - 0:15
    (Soft sound)
  • 0:16 - 0:18
I was very inspired by youth movements,
  • 0:18 - 0:21
    how young people actually
    have organized themselves
  • 0:21 - 0:22
    in order to be heard.
  • 0:22 - 0:25
    For some time now,
  • 0:25 - 0:27
    I have in fact collaborated
    with young people --
  • 0:27 - 0:30
    they are the artists
as well, in this case --
  • 0:30 - 0:34
to make a project "Earth Speakr,"
  • 0:34 - 0:37
    where we, the grown-ups,
    can listen to them.
  • 0:37 - 0:40
So join me in listening to them
    talking about the environment,
  • 0:40 - 0:43
and about the climate, about the future,
  • 0:43 - 0:44
and see what they have to say.
  • 0:46 - 0:50
Girl 1: With "Earth Speakr," I can share
my voice to anything I see.
  • 0:50 - 0:54
It's a platform for us to speak up
and for the world to hear us.
  • 0:54 - 0:58
I could put a face on anything around me
    and say my message.
  • 1:00 - 1:03
Hey, excuse me, I can see you.
  • 1:03 - 1:06
    (Recorded voice)
Hey, excuse me. I can see you.
  • 1:07 - 1:08
    Kids can be the experts.
  • 1:08 - 1:11
    When we come together,
    we can find the answers.
  • 1:11 - 1:13
All you have to do is listen.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
Boy 1: Fight for our future.
  • 1:17 - 1:22
    (Italian) Help me to live
    1,000 years more.
  • 1:23 - 1:25
    (German) I am hungry!
  • 1:25 - 1:27
    Boy 2: It's our future,
    and it's getting hotter.
  • 1:28 - 1:31
    (Recorded voice) It's our
    future, and it's getting hotter.
  • 1:31 - 1:34
    If I see a message I like,
I can share it with my friends and family.
  • 1:34 - 1:38
Girl 2: It's so cool because
    we can share our voices,
  • 1:38 - 1:39
    we can hear others,
  • 1:39 - 1:42
    and that's how we know
that we're not alone in this fight.
  • 1:42 - 1:44
And if enough of us make messages,
  • 1:44 - 1:47
    then the grown-ups
will have to listen to us.
  • 1:47 - 1:50
    Then we can really make
    a change in the world.
  • 1:51 - 1:53
    (Polish) I was so dry
    before I got watered!
  • 1:54 - 2:01
(Portuguese) Hello! My message would be
that all houses should have solar panels!
  • 2:02 - 2:05
(French) Hey, I am Willy from the Earth!
  • 2:06 - 2:08
    Girl 3: Imagine every place
    being as green as me.
  • 2:08 - 2:10
    This can be your future.
  • 2:10 - 2:12
    OE: See?
  • 2:12 - 2:15
    Their imagination
is just so inspiring, I think,
  • 2:15 - 2:18
    and gives me hope also,
    frankly speaking.
  • 2:18 - 2:22
So in "Earth Speakr," only kids can speak,
  • 2:22 - 2:24
and the grown-ups are listening, right?
  • 2:24 - 2:28
Of course, I still have an ask for you,
  • 2:28 - 2:33
as a grown-up, go and make
a Speakr message with a kid
  • 2:33 - 2:35
and send it out into the world.
  • 2:35 - 2:38
Make sure that the kid feels
    "Wow! Somebody's listening to me."
  • 2:38 - 2:40
    Because if we do that,
  • 2:40 - 2:44
I think the future might be
    shaping in the right direction.
  • 2:44 - 2:45
    Thank you.
