Miraculous! 700 Club with Torben Søndergaard - June, 2019

  • 0:02 - 0:06
Welcome to this show. We often tell you
stories about people come to Christ,
  • 0:06 - 0:11
or today we're going to show you the
moment of former NFL football player,
  • 0:11 - 0:16
    heard the gospel, accepted Christ,
got baptized in water and then received
  • 0:16 - 0:18
    the Holy Spirit.
  • 0:18 - 0:22
Before you see this, you might remember
a Danish evangelist we've had on this show
  • 0:22 - 0:27
    before, Torben Sondergaard. Torben was
invited to the home of Ikaika Alama-Francis.
  • 0:27 - 0:33
Ikaika once played for the Detroit Lions,
the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers.
  • 0:33 - 0:37
In this video you'll see Torben share
    the good news with him
  • 0:37 - 0:42
and you'll see Ikaika's response. What
you're about to see is real. Take a look.
  • 0:46 - 0:55
My name is Ikaika Alama-Francis and
I was labeled my whole life as a sports guy.
  • 0:55 - 1:00
Played sports my whole life, as a little kid,
growing up in Hawaii, born and raised,
  • 1:00 - 1:05
so I had the chance to see a lot of
sunshine days and living under, you know,
  • 1:05 - 1:10
the umbrella a lot, on the beach.
But life has took me in so many turns
  • 1:10 - 1:14
through my sports that I identified
    just as a sports person.
  • 1:14 - 1:19
And, you know, I had the blessing to play
professional sports at the highest level.
  • 1:19 - 1:24
I played for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins
    and the San Francisco 49ers.
  • 1:24 - 1:28
And now settled back here in Florida.
I've had the chance to experience
  • 1:28 - 1:32
some really crazy and amazing things.
    But there was something missing
  • 1:32 - 1:36
in my life always. I always felt that was
    something missing.
  • 1:36 - 1:40
And I didn't know what it was.
    And from myself growing up,
  • 1:40 - 1:44
I believed in Jesus Christ. You know,
I grew up in the Catholic Church.
  • 1:44 - 1:50
    You know, several things happened
to me, but I was always known as a sports guy.
  • 1:50 - 1:56
Just Ike - the sports guy. And football,
if you don't know, it's a very aggressive sport.
  • 1:56 - 2:02
You do a lot of damage to not only your body,
but you hurt a lot of other people, along the way.
  • 2:02 - 2:05
And we see guys there are suffering,
    you know what I mean,
  • 2:05 - 2:10
just not only football players, but the wives,
    the children.
  • 2:10 - 2:16
I mean, they are really suffering because
the man has to really take control
  • 2:16 - 2:17
of his actions and what he is doing.
  • 2:17 - 2:21
The crazy thing about it is everybody
glorified me and say: Hey, Ike,
  • 2:21 - 2:24
you do a such a great job. I remember that:
Hit you put on that guy.
  • 2:24 - 2:29
I remember all the damage you were
doing on that guy and they praised me for it.
  • 2:29 - 2:33
But it's so crazy, every time I'd go home
I'd still have this empty feeling in my heart.
  • 2:33 - 2:36
No matter how many people told me
they love me, I had this empty feeling
  • 2:36 - 2:38
    inside of me.
  • 2:39 - 2:44
And you get blinded by a lot of things.
    You get blinded by money,
  • 2:44 - 2:48
    you get blinded by fame,
    you get blinded by...
  • 2:48 - 2:53
    it was almost fake love.
    And...
  • 2:53 - 2:59
The hardest thing for me was finding my
identity as a human being, while playing sports.
  • 2:59 - 3:06
And, like I said, I was just a football guy.
Hey, man, you're the football player.
  • 3:07 - 3:10
I didn't want to be identified as that
because after my career was over
  • 3:10 - 3:16
I had a life to live. And the hardest part
that I had to learn was finding who I was
  • 3:16 - 3:18
in this world, other than sports.
  • 3:18 - 3:25
You know, if you play chess, that game is like:
you move and then is my turn,
  • 3:25 - 3:30
and then is your turn, and is my turn. But I'm
not allowed to suddenly move three times.
  • 3:30 - 3:35
I'm only allowed to move one time and wait
for it becomes my turn again.
  • 3:35 - 3:40
The same way is with God. You have sinned.
You have done wrong. We've all done wrong.
  • 3:40 - 3:44
But you have sinned. And the things you have
done have been a bad move.
  • 3:44 - 3:53
That was not good. God looked down and
said: I love you. I want to save you.
  • 3:53 - 4:00
So I send my son Jesus to die for you.
Which turn is it now? It's your turn.
  • 4:00 - 4:06
God is not just going to save you automatically.
He have done everything He should do -
  • 4:06 - 4:12
He sent His Son Jesus to die for you,
for everyone. But now it's our turn to move.
  • 4:12 - 4:16
When I would hurt more people or I'd do
more great things, they give you more money.
  • 4:17 - 4:22
And at the time, right here, like:
Man, money to me was success.
  • 4:23 - 4:26
Like everybody portraits it: Money is success.
  • 4:26 - 4:28
If you don't have money you don't have success.
  • 4:28 - 4:33
Oh, if you are not rich, then you won't have
all the nicest cars, the biggest houses.
  • 4:33 - 4:37
You are not successful. So I fell into the trap
where I gotta have the nicest car.
  • 4:37 - 4:40
I gotta have the biggest house.
Oh, I gotta hurt more people because
  • 4:40 - 4:43
the more people I hurt, the more money
    they're gonna give me.
  • 4:43 - 4:51
But guess what? The emptier I felt.
And money really changed me as a human being.
  • 4:51 - 4:56
It changed me as a person. And I hate to say:
    I hate money now.
  • 4:57 - 5:01
My wife always tells me, you know: Every time
we have no money you're the happiest person
  • 5:01 - 5:03
in the world, but every time we have money
    something comes out of you.
  • 5:03 - 5:06
I don't know if it's a demon, or the devil.
    What?
  • 5:07 - 5:14
But we have to understand that money is a
useful tool, but it should be nothing that we praise.
  • 5:14 - 5:22
Jesus came here on earth, but where we have all
falling, He walked here around us without falling.
  • 5:22 - 5:29
Where we fall in sexual sin, in lust, in lie,
in stealing, in worshiping other gods,
  • 5:29 - 5:36
in having idols - He didn't.
He was the only man without sin.
  • 5:36 - 5:40
When He was around 30 years old
    He got baptized.
  • 5:40 - 5:45
When He came out the water the Holy Spirit
came over Him as a dove.
  • 5:45 - 5:50
And from that day on He was walking around
here, preaching the gospel of the Kingdom,
  • 5:50 - 5:54
healing the sick, casting out demons, telling
people what they need to do,
  • 5:54 - 5:58
that you need to repent and then be born again
    out of water and spirit.
  • 5:58 - 6:03
To turn away from your sins.
    Follow Him as His disciples.
  • 6:03 - 6:05
    I'm sorry for my sins...
    I'm sorry for my sins...
  • 6:05 - 6:08
I'm sorry for what I've done...
I'm sorry for what I've done...
  • 6:08 - 6:11
    for those people I've hurt...
    for those people I've hurt...
  • 6:11 - 6:13
    I repent...
    I repent...
  • 6:13 - 6:15
    And I ask You...
    And I ask You...
  • 6:15 - 6:18
    Set me free...
    Set me free...
  • 6:35 - 6:39
God, I thank You for this family.
God, we thank You for what You're doing, God.
  • 6:39 - 6:42
Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, God.
  • 6:58 - 7:02
    Hallelujah!
    (tongues)
  • 7:08 - 7:14
...really whiteness, I saw a light.
I felt everything coming into me.
  • 7:14 - 7:16
    - The Holy Spirit.
    - Oh my God!
  • 7:16 - 7:19
    - It's a new life!
    - Yes! Yes!
  • 7:19 - 7:25
    - Yes!
    - Yes! Yes, Jesus!
  • 7:27 - 7:32
The old Ike is going to be buried. He's going
to die and you are going to rise up
  • 7:32 - 7:38
and it's no longer you who live but Christ.
Christ in you. And it's a new beginning.
  • 7:38 - 7:40
    - Are you ready?
    - I am ready!
  • 7:40 - 7:43
Are you ready to see your husband die
and a new man rise up?
  • 7:43 - 7:49
So, on your own faith we baptize you
    to Jesus Christ. Bend down.
  • 7:49 - 8:02
Die with Christ. Rise up with Christ.
    (tongues)
  • 8:09 - 8:13
The old thing is gone. Something new
have started. Sin is washed away.
  • 8:13 - 8:22
The old thing is gone. It's broken, it's over,
    is out. Hallelujah! (tongues)
  • 8:23 - 8:27
    It's exciting, but there's a process to
    everything.
  • 8:27 - 8:32
For myself, football, my life is a process.
But now, my new life is a process.
  • 8:32 - 8:38
So, every day: how do I get better,
like I really everything to sports.
  • 8:38 - 8:43
And my coach used to say:
Bang on the rock. It may be a big rock.
  • 8:43 - 8:46
You may never break it, but keep
    banging against that rock.
  • 8:46 - 8:49
And I'm gonna take that same mentality
    that I have with sports
  • 8:49 - 8:52
and I'll put it to Jesus Christ.
I'm gonna keep banging on that rock.
  • 8:52 - 8:56
I'm gonna keep fighting for Him.
I'm gonna keep fighting, I'm gonna keep fighting,
  • 8:56 - 8:59
    no matter what comes about.
I'm gonna keep fighting, keep fighting,
  • 8:59 - 9:04
keep fighting, because my life is worth it.
    And guess what?
  • 9:04 - 9:08
Other people's lives that I hope
I can save in the future.
  • 9:08 - 9:12
I hope they can feel the same thing that
I feel in this moment and right now.
  • 9:12 - 9:16
Cause I've never felt the level of comfort
like this before in my life.
  • 9:16 - 9:18
    And it's an amazing feeling.
  • 9:18 - 9:23
And the Holy Spirit, I believe, is the only thing
that can really help anybody do that.
  • 9:24 - 9:30
Did you hear him? I've never felt this level
of comfort before in my life.
  • 9:30 - 9:36
Because he had an encounter with God
    of all comfort.
  • 9:36 - 9:40
That what the Holy Spirit is very name.
    The Comforter.
  • 9:40 - 9:45
And He comes to you to let you know
you're not alone, not alone in the universe.
  • 9:45 - 9:49
    He's there. You were made
to have a relationship with Him.
  • 9:49 - 9:55
You were made to be in constant fellowship
    with God almighty.
  • 9:55 - 9:59
He wants to be your all in all.
He wants to be your Father.
  • 9:59 - 10:03
He wants to be your Savior.
He wants to be your Comforter.
  • 10:03 - 10:07
You don't have to convince Him of that.
You don't have to argue with Him,
  • 10:07 - 10:10
you don't have to bargain with Him.
The bargain has already been made.
  • 10:10 - 10:15
    He's already made His move.
How much more do you want God to do
  • 10:15 - 10:21
than to send His only begotten Son
to die for you? To say: I'll take your place.
  • 10:21 - 10:26
I'll suffer all the consequences of
    everything you've ever done wrong.
  • 10:26 - 10:33
I'll take it all. Why will I do that?
Because you are my child and I love you.
  • 10:33 - 10:37
And I want to reverse everything
    that you ever done wrong.
  • 10:37 - 10:44
So that you can be with me and you can
have righteousness, peace and joy again.
  • 10:44 - 10:50
Now, you saw the steps that Torben took
    and what he said.
  • 10:50 - 10:56
Right now, if you want to experience this,
if you want to have the same experience,
  • 10:56 - 11:00
all you have to do is take the same steps.
