January 18 - Adventists in the First Christian Nation
-
0:07 - 0:11Many people believe Noah’s ark
settled on Mount Ararat after the flood, -
0:11 - 0:13in what is modern-day Turkey.
-
0:14 - 0:16It’s a beautiful sight
from almost any angle, -
0:16 - 0:18but one of the best views of the mountain
-
0:18 - 0:20can be seen from across
the border in Armenia. -
0:21 - 0:26Armenia was the first country to adopt
Christianity as its official religion -
0:26 - 0:28in the year 301 A.D.
-
0:28 - 0:31Although Christianity
spread here a long time ago, -
0:31 - 0:34Adventists in the capital city of Yerevan
-
0:34 - 0:36have been praying
for opportunities to share -
0:36 - 0:39a unique message
with the people of this large city. -
0:40 - 0:45Our main goal is to spread
the three angels’ messages -
0:45 - 0:48here in this area of Yerevan.
-
0:49 - 0:53To serve people through health ministry.
-
0:53 - 0:55After working in this neighborhood
-
0:55 - 0:57as a Global Mission pioneer
for two and a half years, -
0:58 - 1:01Vigen started
this small group of believers. -
1:01 - 1:04This group is excited
to share the Adventist message, -
1:04 - 1:06and found that health ministry
-
1:06 - 1:08is the best way
to connect with the community. -
1:09 - 1:10Over the last year,
-
1:10 - 1:13they put on small health expos,
featuring lifestyle seminars, -
1:13 - 1:17like the “breathing free”
program for people who smoke. -
1:17 - 1:21Healthy cooking classes are a favorite
among community members. -
1:21 - 1:25They love learning new recipes
and tasting the food in a social setting. -
1:26 - 1:28Some of the members started
a colporteur ministry, -
1:28 - 1:30knocking on people’s doors.
-
1:30 - 1:33As their group became
more known in the neighborhood, -
1:33 - 1:35they decided to hold
a series of Bible meetings -
1:35 - 1:37in their small rented space.
-
1:37 - 1:40They mailed and passed out
dozens of invitations -
1:40 - 1:42to these upcoming meetings;
-
1:42 - 1:46but just before the day of the event,
they were kicked out of the building. -
1:47 - 1:51It’s very difficult and expensive
to rent a space in this part of the city, -
1:52 - 1:54so the members did
the only thing they could at that point: -
1:54 - 1:56they prayed.
-
1:56 - 1:59And after a few days of prayers,
-
1:59 - 2:04we found a building on the same street,
two homes after. -
2:04 - 2:06It was very near.
-
2:06 - 2:11For us it was a really
unbelievable miracle that God did. -
2:12 - 2:16Taking this as a sign from God,
the meetings went on as planned. -
2:16 - 2:19Karine received
an invitation from a friend. -
2:19 - 2:22She was willing to try anything
to fill a feeling of emptiness -
2:22 - 2:24she couldn’t explain.
-
2:25 - 2:28About 2 years ago I met Vigen.
-
2:28 - 2:31When I heard him speaking
it touched my heart. -
2:32 - 2:36I began to understand the Bible
and that empty space was filled. -
2:37 - 2:39Karine was baptized
-
2:39 - 2:42and is now a very active member
of the Adventist church. -
2:44 - 2:46I became like a new person.
-
2:47 - 2:49I’m more faithful to God now.
-
2:49 - 2:54Wherever I go I feel a peace
and comfort that wasn’t there before. -
2:56 - 2:59Mission work in cities
like Yerevan can be extremely difficult. -
3:00 - 3:03Church planting can seem
like an impossible task at times, -
3:03 - 3:07but through prayer and God’s power,
new groups of believers can start. -
3:09 - 3:10Global Mission pioneers like Vigen
-
3:10 - 3:14have found that by using
Christ’s method of ministry, -
3:14 - 3:17they can break barriers
that they couldn’t otherwise. -
3:17 - 3:24To show people that we love them,
we are interested in them, -
3:25 - 3:29that we are prepared to help them,
-
3:29 - 3:32to solve their everyday problems.
-
3:34 - 3:39I think the gospel is the answer
to the many problems of the people. -
3:40 - 3:42Thank you for supporting Global Mission
-
3:42 - 3:44through financial contribution and prayer.
-
3:44 - 3:47Your support is helping
pioneers plant new churches -
3:47 - 3:50in unentered areas around the world.
-
3:50 - 3:54I would like to ask to pray that...
-
3:54 - 4:00people could know the living God
and that they could find rest -
4:00 - 4:04and peace in Christ alone.
