What is bourgeois bohemian?
"Bourgeois Bohemian," AKA BOBO is a phrase popularized by David Brooks in his 2000 book "Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There." The BoBo class refers to a socio-economic group that merges the radical, free-spirited ideals of the bohemian counterculture with the affluence and consumerist values of the bourgeoisie.
In essence, they represent a blend of the artistic and intellectual pursuits traditionally associated with bohemians and the capitalist endeavors of the middle and upper classes.
BoBos often possess a strong appreciation for art, culture, organic food, sustainability, and social justice.
Yet, they are also comfortably rooted in capitalist society, enjoying affluence and consumer goods. This blend can be seen in their tastes, which often prioritize artisanal, authentic, and ethically-produced items, and their living spaces, which may juxtapose antiques with modern luxuries.
