  • 0:02 - 0:04
So, I’m Jen, as she said,
  • 0:04 - 0:06
and I did talk here a couple of years ago
  • 0:06 - 0:08
    where I reviewed a plugin,
  • 0:08 - 0:10
and people seem to think that was pretty cool
  • 0:10 - 0:11
so Matt asked me to do it again.
  • 0:11 - 0:13
So we're gonna do Contact Form 7.
  • 0:13 - 0:15
Just to kind of get a gauge,
  • 0:15 - 0:17
    how many people here
  • 0:17 - 0:18
    have a developed plugins themselves?
  • 0:18 - 0:20
    [silence while people raise hands]
  • 0:20 - 0:21
    And how many people here
  • 0:21 - 0:23
    have used Contact Form 7?
  • 0:23 - 0:24
    [silence while people raise hands]
  • 0:24 - 0:25
    How many people here
  • 0:25 - 0:26
    have used any contact form?
  • 0:26 - 0:27
    [silence while people raise hands]
  • 0:27 - 0:28
    Okay.
  • 0:28 - 0:29
How many people here are designers?
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    [silence while people raise hands]
  • 0:31 - 0:32
Anyone who hasn't raised their hand
  • 0:32 - 0:33
    at least once --
  • 0:33 - 0:33
    you are gonna be
  • 0:33 - 0:34
    bored out of your mind,
  • 0:34 - 0:35
    go get some coffee.
  • 0:35 - 0:36
    [audience laughter]
  • 0:36 - 0:37
    Everyone else, there should be
  • 0:37 - 0:39
    something here for you.
  • 0:39 - 0:41
I'm gonna try to go very fast
  • 0:41 - 0:42
    through the feedback
  • 0:42 - 0:43
    that I gave the developer
  • 0:43 - 0:44
    of Contact Form 7,
  • 0:44 - 0:46
and kind of what he decided
  • 0:46 - 0:48
about each of the bits of feedback
  • 0:48 - 0:49
    that I gave him,
  • 0:49 - 0:50
    and then try to leave
  • 0:50 - 0:51
    more time for questions
  • 0:51 - 0:52
    because I think that's
  • 0:52 - 0:53
    usually more interesting
  • 0:53 - 0:54
    otherwise you might as well
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    just watch video online, right?
  • 0:55 - 0:57
    So!
  • 0:57 - 0:59
    Takayuki is the developer
  • 0:59 - 1:00
    of Contact Form 7,
  • 1:00 - 1:02
and he graciously agreed to this experiment
  • 1:02 - 1:03
    just no one thinks
  • 1:03 - 1:05
    I'm slagging on a developer
  • 1:05 - 1:07
    with his knowledge.
  • 1:07 - 1:08
    The first thing I noticed
  • 1:08 - 1:10
when I installed Contact Form 7
  • 1:10 - 1:12
(which I hadn't used for several years)
  • 1:12 - 1:13
    was that the menu placement
  • 1:13 - 1:15
    drove me crazy.
  • 1:15 - 1:16
Because I don't know how many of you
  • 1:16 - 1:18
realize this, but the nav is
  • 1:18 - 1:21
sort is broken into content at the top
  • 1:21 - 1:24
and sort of utilities on the bottom.
  • 1:24 - 1:25
    and he could have chosen
  • 1:25 - 1:26
to put the contact form stuff
  • 1:26 - 1:27
    like right under comments.
  • 1:27 - 1:30
So that was my first piece of feedback.
  • 1:30 - 1:31
    But as it turned out,
  • 1:31 - 1:33
    it wasn't his fault,
  • 1:33 - 1:35
    it was a plugin conflict,
  • 1:35 - 1:36
    which was great
  • 1:36 - 1:37
    because one of the reasons
  • 1:37 - 1:39
    that we asked plugin developers
  • 1:39 - 1:40
    to have a consistent UI
  • 1:40 - 1:41
    with WordPress core
  • 1:41 - 1:43
    is that people
  • 1:43 - 1:45
    who use WordPress with plugins,
  • 1:45 - 1:46
    if something goes wrong
  • 1:46 - 1:47
they don't know what went wrong.
  • 1:47 - 1:48
    They just know it's broken.
  • 1:48 - 1:49
    And so, if someone does
  • 1:49 - 1:50
    a plugin that's broken
  • 1:50 - 1:52
    people think WordPress is broken.
  • 1:52 - 1:53
So it was kind of funny
  • 1:53 - 1:55
    that the shoe
  • 1:55 - 1:56
was on the other foot this time
  • 1:56 - 1:58
and I found the conflict and it went away
  • 1:58 - 1:59
    so he didn't actually
  • 1:59 - 2:00
    anything wrong there.
  • 2:00 - 2:01
if I hadn't had this other plugin installed
  • 2:01 - 2:03
it would have been right under comments.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    So, good job!
  • 2:05 - 2:07
    That said,
  • 2:07 - 2:09
He is using this default gear icon,
  • 2:09 - 2:11
    which is an icon
  • 2:11 - 2:12
    we make available
  • 2:12 - 2:13
    for any plugin that's
  • 2:13 - 2:14
    gonna create a menu item,
  • 2:14 - 2:16
    just they have one
  • 2:16 - 2:17
    But you should really choose
  • 2:17 - 2:18
    the icon make sense
  • 2:19 - 2:20
    if you gonna have
  • 2:20 - 2:21
    a top level menu item.
  • 2:21 - 2:22
    so I said,
  • 2:22 - 2:23
    "Why don't you change that
  • 2:23 - 2:25
    to something, you know,
  • 2:25 - 2:27
    from the dashicon set
  • 2:27 - 2:28
which are the icons that we use
  • 2:28 - 2:30
    for the other navigation items?"
  • 2:30 - 2:31
    He did not realize
  • 2:31 - 2:32
    that we had some
  • 2:32 - 2:33
that kind of look like forms
  • 2:33 - 2:34
    and are even labeled
  • 2:34 - 2:36
    as being for forms.
  • 2:36 - 2:38
So he said, "Yes! I will do that.
  • 2:38 - 2:39
    Find me one."
  • 2:39 - 2:40
    So, that's good.
  • 2:40 - 2:42
    Next I said,
  • 2:42 - 2:43
    I don't like it
  • 2:43 - 2:45
that you have all these custom links
  • 2:45 - 2:46
like, "Docs", and, "FAQ" and "Support",
  • 2:46 - 2:48
    and no help tab,
  • 2:48 - 2:50
    because everywhere else in WordPress
  • 2:50 - 2:52
there's a help tab in the upper right
  • 2:52 - 2:53
where if you don't really know
  • 2:53 - 2:54
what's going on on the screen
  • 2:54 - 2:55
you click it, it comes down
  • 2:55 - 2:57
and it tells you what to do.
  • 2:57 - 2:58
So I said "Please add one of those,"
  • 2:58 - 3:00
    and he said "Yes!"
  • 3:00 - 3:01
    So that was good!
  • 3:01 - 3:04
These are pretty easy changes so far
  • 3:04 - 3:07
but a good confidence booster for me.
  • 3:07 - 3:09
    The title field.
  • 3:09 - 3:10
This was weird; I didn't actually know
  • 3:10 - 3:11
    what was going on
  • 3:11 - 3:12
    when I saw this.
  • 3:12 - 3:13
    Where it says, " Untitled,"
  • 3:13 - 3:16
that is the "title" of the form.
  • 3:16 - 3:18
If you hover over it, it turns yellow,
  • 3:18 - 3:19
and then if you click in it,
  • 3:19 - 3:22
then it shows you the actual editable fields.
  • 3:22 - 3:24
but that's all it is, it's a title field.
  • 3:24 - 3:25
So I said why don't you
  • 3:25 - 3:26
    just do it like core,
  • 3:26 - 3:27
    where it's just a field
  • 3:27 - 3:29
and you know it's a field
  • 3:29 - 3:31
and you can click in it.
  • 3:31 - 3:32
He said [audio track jumps ahead]
  • 3:32 - 3:36
So, compare core to this 3 step process.
  • 3:36 - 3:38
    And he said, "Yes!"
  • 3:38 - 3:40
    That was good.
  • 3:40 - 3:42
    "Generate tag."
  • 3:42 - 3:44
    This is in quotes
  • 3:44 - 3:45
    because it is specific label
  • 3:45 - 3:47
that he is using on the form builder.
  • 3:47 - 3:51
which is a little small on the screen
  • 3:51 - 3:52
but basically this is how you add
  • 3:52 - 3:55
    form fields to the form.
  • 3:55 - 3:56
I said, "Tag means something different
  • 3:56 - 3:59
    to users than developers.
  • 3:59 - 4:03
To users, It means this kind of tag.
  • 4:03 - 4:06
To developers, It means this kind of tag.
  • 4:06 - 4:08
You are developer, so I get why you call it a tag,
  • 4:08 - 4:09
but most people who are using forms
  • 4:09 - 4:11
aren't going to think of that
  • 4:11 - 4:13
so why don't you call it create new field,
  • 4:13 - 4:15
    and use simpler language.
  • 4:15 - 4:17
But he said, [sotto voice] "No."
  • 4:17 - 4:18
    [audience laughs]
  • 4:18 - 4:19
He didn't want to do that.
  • 4:19 - 4:20
He said 'No' because he thought
  • 4:20 - 4:21
    it would confuse the people
  • 4:21 - 4:23
who have already been using it.
  • 4:23 - 4:24
    We may have another conversation
  • 4:24 - 4:25
    about that, we'll see.
  • 4:25 - 4:27
There is a section on the plugin
  • 4:27 - 4:28
    called messages.
  • 4:28 - 4:30
    These are the confirmations
  • 4:30 - 4:31
    and error reports that
  • 4:31 - 4:33
happen when you submit the form.
  • 4:33 - 4:36
There's a whole screen of them,
  • 4:36 - 4:37
    and they all start
  • 4:37 - 4:38
    with the little hash mark
  • 4:38 - 4:39
And I said, "That means 'hashtag,'
  • 4:39 - 4:40
    why is that there?
  • 4:40 - 4:42
    I'm sure it's because you're a developer
  • 4:42 - 4:44
and you start comment lines with that,
  • 4:44 - 4:45
    but it doesn't make sense
  • 4:45 - 4:46
    for regular people."
  • 4:46 - 4:47
    He said, "Yes!"
  • 4:47 - 4:50
    Yay!
  • 4:50 - 4:53
This is a broader view of the message thing
  • 4:53 - 4:54
    as you can see,
  • 4:54 - 4:55
    It's kind of cut off.
  • 4:55 - 4:57
That's because that is a scrolling box
  • 4:57 - 4:59
    but in browsers today,
  • 4:59 - 5:01
you don't actually see the scroll bar
  • 5:01 - 5:02
until you actually go to use it,
  • 5:02 - 5:04
so it just looks like it's broken.
  • 5:04 - 5:05
And again, if it looks broken,
  • 5:05 - 5:07
    people think WordPress is broken.
  • 5:07 - 5:09
    so I said ---
  • 5:09 - 5:12
Actually, I'm sorry, I did these backwards.
  • 5:12 - 5:15
This is: I thought people might not know what is going on,
  • 5:15 - 5:16
    so I said, introduce It
  • 5:16 - 5:17
    with telling them what
  • 5:17 - 5:19
    these messages are for.
  • 5:19 - 5:21
    He said, "Yes."
  • 5:21 - 5:22
    Also, you'd have to scroll
  • 5:22 - 5:24
all the way back up to save it,
  • 5:24 - 5:26
and I thought people would probably forget
  • 5:26 - 5:28
so I said, put a save button at the bottom
  • 5:28 - 5:30
    and he said, "Yes."
  • 5:30 - 5:31
    And then I said,
  • 5:31 - 5:32
    "Also, this scrolling
  • 5:32 - 5:34
is a pain in the butt,
  • 5:34 - 5:35
why don't you just have the boxes
  • 5:35 - 5:36
    not that long.
  • 5:36 - 5:38
    He said, "Maybe."
  • 5:38 - 5:40
He actually felt that it was too long,
  • 5:40 - 5:41
he used to have it that way
  • 5:41 - 5:43
where all of them were displayed
  • 5:43 - 5:45
and he put the scroll in 'cause he thought
  • 5:45 - 5:47
it made the page feel better.
  • 5:47 - 5:48
But since the entire screen is
  • 5:48 - 5:51
    like three screens-worth long,
  • 5:51 - 5:53
It's just not... it doesn't save anything.
  • 5:53 - 5:55
so, but he said maybe, we'll talk about it.
  • 5:55 - 5:57
    Then there's this box
  • 5:57 - 6:00
    called Additional Settings.
  • 6:00 - 6:01
I don't know what that is
  • 6:01 - 6:03
    if I'm a new user.
  • 6:03 - 6:04
Maybe I use it to make all my forms blue
  • 6:04 - 6:07
and make the box outlines in a different color.
  • 6:07 - 6:09
    It doesn't have any instructions,
  • 6:09 - 6:11
or any reference to what that means,
  • 6:11 - 6:12
    and Settings is a word
  • 6:12 - 6:14
that is used elsewhere in the UI
  • 6:14 - 6:15
so I said, "Why don't you
  • 6:15 - 6:17
just put a little intro line?"
  • 6:17 - 6:18
    He said, "Yes."
  • 6:18 - 6:19
    Yaay!
  • 6:19 - 6:20
    the section on mail --
  • 6:20 - 6:23
so this would be the notifications,
  • 6:23 - 6:24
so anyone who has contact forms,
  • 6:24 - 6:26
you know, you get the little email
  • 6:27 - 6:28
that says, "You got a message!"
  • 6:28 - 6:29
    Name, e-mail, message,
  • 6:29 - 6:31
    all your fields.
  • 6:31 - 6:32
so it has a lot of stuff
  • 6:32 - 6:35
    that's pretty typical
  • 6:35 - 6:37
    but I did not understand
  • 6:37 - 6:39
    why there was Mail
  • 6:39 - 6:42
    and Mail (2) in parentheses.
  • 6:42 - 6:43
It didn't make sense to me,
  • 6:43 - 6:45
especially since it only had one check box.
  • 6:45 - 6:48
so I said, "Well, can't you just combine
  • 6:48 - 6:50
that into Mail and don't have a Mail (2)?"
  • 6:50 - 6:53
He said, "I agree that it is confusing,
  • 6:53 - 6:55
but I do not how to make that better.
  • 6:55 - 6:58
I thought the way was put it all in one box,
  • 6:58 - 7:01
But he said, if someone can help me
  • 7:01 - 7:02
figure out a way to make that better,
  • 7:02 - 7:03
    we can talk about it."
  • 7:03 - 7:05
    So we'll see.
  • 7:05 - 7:09
    But speaking of mail,
  • 7:09 - 7:10
there is a thing in the form builder
  • 7:10 - 7:12
that says, "And any put this caught into mail fields below.
  • 7:12 - 7:14
or which one? there is so many.
  • 7:14 - 7:16
    I could you know.
  • 7:16 - 7:18
    again, here agree this probably,
  • 7:18 - 7:21
confusiong, but he didn't really know the best way to address it.
  • 7:21 - 7:23
    so talk about more.
  • 7:23 - 7:28
a Japanese being a language that is different from English,
  • 7:28 - 7:30
    sometimes have different UI issues.
  • 7:30 - 7:33
so we doing lot of share our people familiar with what be done call language packs
  • 7:33 - 7:35
you the work it's the wounderying the language packs.
  • 7:35 - 7:37
    but a few people,
  • 7:37 - 7:40
so we being feel as the project far gash like too
  • 7:40 - 7:44
sore the now I making core and plugins being too
  • 7:44 - 7:47
translatable, people all around the world can use them,
  • 7:47 - 7:48
    to use them,
  • 7:48 - 7:50
and just saving one developpers are in English.
  • 7:50 - 7:52
    so I notice recent version,
  • 7:52 - 7:56
has a language chooser really exciting,
  • 7:56 - 7:59
any they thout figure out make it based on the language,
  • 7:59 - 8:01
then you could change the design based on the language
  • 8:01 - 8:04
that you might have congration my to left,
  • 8:04 - 8:05
    we have to write,
  • 8:05 - 8:07
    you could such around,
  • 8:07 - 8:08
    so I like to this,
  • 8:08 - 8:10
    and I thought
  • 8:10 - 8:18
well, when I think about UI, I think chooing thet because it's begging, and
  • 8:18 - 8:22
write your progress to the final product that timeline.
  • 8:22 - 8:23
    so to me,
  • 8:23 - 8:25
    those two side.
  • 8:25 - 8:26
    kind of the switched,
  • 8:26 - 8:28
but you can think about that you can know,
  • 8:28 - 8:31
everyone thought about that but you are write
  • 8:31 - 8:33
    to the language distinguish.
  • 8:33 - 8:36
so, he is interested in pleple who might artify staff perhaps,
  • 8:36 - 8:38
    contributing to the plugin,
  • 8:38 - 8:41
    I thought might,]
  • 8:41 - 8:46
and then leaded, I know, but that the statement copy this code,
  • 8:46 - 8:48
and paste it into the form left,
  • 8:48 - 8:50
as it say the form at left,
  • 8:50 - 8:51
    to at the left?
  • 8:51 - 8:53
    this is missing words,
  • 8:53 - 8:54
    distinguish,
  • 8:54 - 8:56
he said, my english is not great,
  • 8:56 - 9:01
if there is anyone who wants to help me with making better english in the plugin,
  • 9:01 - 9:03
please tell them to contact me,
  • 9:03 - 9:05
so, anyone who is an editor likes grammer,
  • 9:05 - 9:09
he would love to have improvement on the writing in the plugin
  • 9:09 - 9:12
that is another way to contribute,
  • 9:12 - 9:14
so he would say please help me.
  • 9:14 - 9:15
or there are pretty small thouth,
  • 9:15 - 9:18
so the little basic UI tweaks,
  • 9:18 - 9:20
and there were some bigger thing
  • 9:20 - 9:23
that I was last confident he will be interested in doing,
  • 9:23 - 9:24
    or say how they go
  • 9:24 - 9:29
so the first thing I thought was that just list of the template tag
  • 9:29 - 9:31
    to make the form.
  • 9:31 - 9:34
I don't know what the form is gonna look like
  • 9:34 - 9:36
and I wanna know look like everyting in the would has a preview
  • 9:36 - 9:38
so I said usually get preview.
  • 9:38 - 9:40
    He say 'Yes'!
  • 9:40 - 9:42
    I would do that
  • 9:42 - 9:45
other paste is copy and paste,
  • 9:45 - 9:47
do if you know what I'm talking about Contact Form 7
  • 9:47 - 9:50
you have to create form when you actually have to copy and paste
  • 9:50 - 9:57
this little short code creates on to the form. it's right there why can it you would for you.
  • 9:57 - 9:58
    It's twenty-forteen right?
  • 9:58 - 9:59
    so I said,
  • 9:59 - 10:02
can you just make it automatically that over there?
  • 10:02 - 10:04
    No, probably not.
  • 10:04 - 10:11
He does not like that and he think it would confuse people because they might have a different intention then adding to the form,
  • 10:11 - 10:15
we have not communicate and not for the rarely understand,
  • 10:15 - 10:16
    that point of view,
  • 10:16 - 10:17
    but we will,
  • 10:17 - 10:19
    It would be awesome.
  • 10:19 - 10:21
so I said if you not can not do that,
  • 10:21 - 10:25
can you at least give us some directions,
  • 10:25 - 10:26
    for example, It would say,
  • 10:26 - 10:28
    paste into the form,
  • 10:28 - 10:29
    the form left,
  • 10:29 - 10:31
    but it doesn't say where,
  • 10:31 - 10:32
    and if you put it
  • 10:32 - 10:34
    allow this submit button,
  • 10:34 - 10:36
    what happen to your form,
  • 10:36 - 10:38
    so It's say,
  • 10:38 - 10:40
put it above this admit button,
  • 10:40 - 10:43
kind of like, wp-config file does,
  • 10:43 - 10:45
I've got the following standards we say in wordpress,
  • 10:45 - 10:50
because, if you put it below this admit button,
  • 10:50 - 10:53
your new field, who be below submit button,
  • 10:53 - 10:56
any might think well, I just while still submit,
  • 10:56 - 11:01
No, it will not any infomation about how many cats they have.
  • 11:01 - 11:03
    so yeah,
  • 11:03 - 11:05
    We sould get some directions.
  • 11:05 - 11:07
    He didn't answer.
  • 11:07 - 11:10
I did not know he would do or not.
  • 11:10 - 11:13
on the mission, so I submit the form I because, tasking the see,
  • 11:13 - 11:15
tell me there were a cats,
  • 11:15 - 11:19
    I fill the none,
  • 11:19 - 11:21
    and it refresh the screen,
  • 11:21 - 11:23
and you can see the green area message at the bottom,
  • 11:23 - 11:25
    that says then sccessfully,
  • 11:25 - 11:28
but since when it perfotm, not was below the fault,
  • 11:28 - 11:31
I didn't see the all I saw was that might screen.
  • 11:31 - 11:33
wachuuu! When the form was gone.
  • 11:33 - 11:35
and then later I scroll down and side,
  • 11:35 - 11:37
    but really air messages,
  • 11:37 - 11:41
sould be shown where are the area of the confirmation has happened.
  • 11:41 - 11:42
sould be really top of the screen,
  • 11:42 - 11:46
and, in wordpress all alerts have a informations,
  • 11:46 - 11:50
the top of the screen, so, that I concious to think,
  • 11:50 - 11:53
I don't know that because I forgot to mention I want,
  • 11:53 - 11:55
    because I thought obvious.
  • 11:55 - 11:59
is it please stand you extend to put the messages and the places.
  • 11:59 - 12:03
and, we moved on this is bigger,
  • 12:03 - 12:04
    again new is,
  • 12:04 - 12:06
    all this code,
  • 12:06 - 12:08
how many people have use a form builder,
  • 12:08 - 12:10
    where you drag & drop,
  • 12:10 - 12:12
    you think, yeah,
  • 12:12 - 12:15
I said why do we little tags what,
  • 12:15 - 12:18
I can't we just tab thought of visual thing.
  • 12:18 - 12:20
    cloud web form does it,
  • 12:20 - 12:21
    JetPack does it,
  • 12:21 - 12:22
    and he said 'No',
  • 12:22 - 12:24
    he did not like that.
  • 12:24 - 12:25
    He thinks that,
  • 12:25 - 12:28
his user is actually want to find bring control,
  • 12:28 - 12:31
that being the code gives them,
  • 12:31 - 12:33
and they don't really care about is the view,
  • 12:33 - 12:36
    I like wow! I don't know,
  • 12:36 - 12:37
    and I mean, regular users,
  • 12:37 - 12:39
who, you know, may be uncoders maybe,
  • 12:39 - 12:42
don't know how to use that.
  • 12:42 - 12:45
and then he surprised me really it mean those people,
  • 12:45 - 12:48
I'm aiming people who like to fit to around html.
  • 12:48 - 12:49
    I didn't know that,
  • 12:49 - 12:52
that like wow, I fact you insane then,
  • 12:52 - 12:55
Yeah, you could put around and I need a descriptions, that says,
  • 12:55 - 12:57
you sould probably like fitting around the html.
  • 12:57 - 13:00
    that was I thought that.
  • 13:00 - 13:04
    what time up quite sorry,
  • 13:04 - 13:06
    I suggested I complomise,
  • 13:06 - 13:11
which is taking this, and doing something, more like this,
  • 13:11 - 13:14
which you sould recognize the code posted editor.
  • 13:14 - 13:18
having both WYSIWYG version of the visual tab,
  • 13:18 - 13:21
and then the code version on the text tab,
  • 13:21 - 13:24
I put that I needed, if you are not my favorite,
  • 13:24 - 13:26
form builder, but I do use the lot.
  • 13:26 - 13:28
and they do have you can see the visual editor,
  • 13:28 - 13:29
    than playing at the dark.
  • 13:29 - 13:32
and I why you can have it easy construnction,
  • 13:32 - 13:35
but you can go on tweak the code you need to.
  • 13:35 - 13:38
and he said, 'That could be go. Maybe I'll do that'.
  • 13:38 - 13:40
so that I will be great.
  • 13:40 - 13:42
because I was so lot of the problems,
  • 13:42 - 13:43
because you can choose easy version.
  • 13:44 - 13:47
then I said, you know, you have to do all this,
  • 13:47 - 13:50
    in the contact section,
  • 13:50 - 13:55
and that's not really related to you writing the post or page means most people use to create the contact page right,
  • 13:55 - 13:58
how many people have a contact page on their site.
  • 13:58 - 14:04
so, It would be easier just go to create pages and there saw the forms,
  • 14:04 - 14:07
they would be go to the page and rising making a form,
  • 14:07 - 14:10
some else form coping basic go back page right,
  • 14:10 - 14:13
so, I said instad of this,
  • 14:13 - 14:15
why don't we just add a button,
  • 14:15 - 14:17
so people could just out of form,
  • 14:17 - 14:19
there are a lot of plugin that do this,
  • 14:19 - 14:20
    and he said,'Maybe'.
  • 14:20 - 14:22
    It was not really.
  • 14:22 - 14:24
    I control version said,
  • 14:24 - 14:29
he didn't think that people would be excited about how to bring it there,
  • 14:29 - 14:33
because he still wanted to win the contact form part any didn't think it should be think,
  • 14:33 - 14:37
normally I made agree with him because I like things to have a cannonical home and,
  • 14:37 - 14:39
    cause a information architect person,
  • 14:39 - 14:43
but, if you think about it uploading a photo,
  • 14:43 - 14:46
for example Shelly uploads a lot of photos,
  • 14:46 - 14:49
you might upload them one into a pose,
  • 14:49 - 14:52
because you are post all of your photos for more San Fransisco,
  • 14:52 - 14:56
but you might not be ready to pose you might just wanna get all photos in you sites,
  • 14:56 - 15:00
use them later so you might upload them right into your media library without a post.
  • 15:00 - 15:02
so I actually think this case,
  • 15:02 - 15:06
    It's consistent to have both.
  • 15:06 - 15:09
So, thank you to Takayuki because he was a great support,
  • 15:09 - 15:12
and now we have a five questions,
  • 15:14 - 15:18
    great over here?
  • 15:18 - 15:21
    gram,
  • 15:21 - 15:26
gram for accessibility team, anyone interested in contributing to the WordPress open source project,
  • 15:26 - 15:29
all teams will be down here all day tomorrow,
  • 15:29 - 15:30
    teaching how you get involved,
  • 15:30 - 15:31
    you'll get cool buttons,
  • 15:31 - 15:33
    what the teams,
  • 15:33 - 15:34
    yes gram,
  • 15:34 - 15:36
    thanks Jan,
  • 15:36 - 15:38
I was obvious your question about accessibility,
  • 15:38 - 15:42
I'll ask you date any testing on the accessibility of this plug-in.
  • 15:42 - 15:47
I did not because for the sake of this talk knowing how I had 15 munites at most,
  • 15:47 - 15:48
    Right,
  • 15:48 - 15:56
I really just want to pick things that WordPress hanging throuth UI stuff, and also because,
  • 15:56 - 16:00
I'll back to try to things they keep all I've gotta little bit fat,
  • 16:00 - 16:05
and there are some contact has issues that I probabbly call ritht away some small text issues,
  • 16:05 - 16:09
and I happened to test whether reader or anything like that.
  • 16:09 - 16:14
I comment they will be get sound put on to the pies to course you are ...
  • 16:14 - 16:18
I did not. But it looks I mean that looks the same,
  • 16:18 - 16:20
I didn't look at the court that is output,
  • 16:20 - 16:21
    ok
  • 16:21 - 16:26
But if you want it to I'm surely he will very lucky to get accessibility will your protest as you needed.
  • 16:26 - 16:27
    All right, OK, thank you.
  • 16:27 - 16:31
So you guys do that and hook you up later,
  • 16:31 - 16:32
    Other questions.
  • 16:32 - 16:39
How about over here in the flat shirt?
  • 16:39 - 16:44
Hi, the question you forgot I ask him a the notification,
  • 16:44 - 16:47
    that all validation area,
  • 16:47 - 16:51
buttom most like one that publification that message thing,
  • 16:51 - 16:52
    Yeah,
  • 16:52 - 16:59
there if you look at it is documentation that is not on you easier place you can add put that anywhere in the form that you want.
  • 16:59 - 17:05
I believe that almost everything that I found there is something that documentations that let you customised it,
  • 17:05 - 17:10
because that is how he has set up his plugin on the user he is talking.
  • 17:10 - 17:13
but default, shoulde be of the top,
  • 17:13 - 17:13
    yeah.
  • 17:13 - 17:15
    late up here?
  • 17:18 - 17:23
So I just have a comment about that making here two thing because I bugs me,
  • 17:23 - 17:37
and, I think that would be very helpful for anybody that has an contact form to specifically spell out that what the first e-mail goes to the web site administrator and he second e-mail should go and notify the person who posted.
  • 17:37 - 17:45
It's actually really important where you have a formal web site to let the person who posted know that yeah you've got the message.
  • 17:45 - 17:48
and that was usually the mail to feel use they don't have to use that way.
  • 17:48 - 17:49
    but just.
  • 17:49 - 17:49
    ok
  • 17:49 - 17:52
suggested that It could be really helpful.
  • 17:52 - 17:56
Yeah, I would agreed with that and I honestly the word e-mail,
  • 17:56 - 17:58
well, yeah e-mail all what you means,
  • 17:58 - 18:01
because where the people and we use it all the times,
  • 18:01 - 18:02
and sure for e-mail what you show all notifications,
  • 18:02 - 18:06
what people don't actually know the anything if you like from the other plugins,
  • 18:06 - 18:08
they use terminal that small all about applications,
  • 18:08 - 18:17
then he will when much the notification that sound an specially as people starting the notifications not through any e-mail client but through that base server,
  • 18:17 - 18:21
or streams or feeds or send it to twitter account what cover and I'm thinking
  • 18:21 - 18:25
notifications probabbly a better general blank it turn product stand up anyone?
  • 18:25 - 18:28
and then you know how about getting sense.
  • 18:28 - 18:35
but I agree that specifying create form filler out form would be the better print system.
  • 18:35 - 18:39
also I just any time in WordPress,
  • 18:39 - 18:40
    where the two after it,
  • 18:40 - 18:46
my automatic consumptions, that something in the trash needs, to get the read it,
  • 18:46 - 18:49
because I don't know anyone else ever made that page and you have the same name originally and it puts to on your like
  • 18:49 - 18:51
    ohhhhh!
  • 18:51 - 18:52
    originally I get change URL,
  • 18:52 - 18:55
so, yeah, I think that is a great comment,
  • 18:55 - 18:58
    Anyone else?
  • 18:58 - 19:00
    Time maybe two more?
  • 19:00 - 19:08
yeah actually I would like to make a comment me that I e-mail thing that's that issue have e-mail now three or how you get because how they would wanna fix that,
  • 19:08 - 19:19
because sometimes we're testing the form morning see like how it's going and usually put our names in with this they'll this people that maybe going to as the developper or whatever,
  • 19:19 - 19:26
and then, with the seles person that replys like this in the developpers included the e-mail all the kind of stuff should be actually nice to have
  • 19:26 - 19:31
you know the admin be had on e-mail, in see what's going on?
  • 19:31 - 19:34
and not give all the information.
  • 19:34 - 19:37
because sometimes like we have a lawer, for example,
  • 19:37 - 19:45
I just wanna know like what they have a question about in like that there is mail I don't wanna know all that are information.
  • 19:45 - 19:50
you know I comment not per see that because I'll had a third e-mail know section for admins,
  • 19:50 - 19:52
    I'll pass on that feedback,
  • 19:52 - 19:55
whether not eventually, I don't know.
  • 19:55 - 19:58
but I would bet that the plugin architecture itself,
  • 19:58 - 20:06
is setup that if you want it to extend that I'm telling about you could or developer that you want to have do for you probably could
  • 20:06 - 20:14
I don't know that sure but I know other people have build the top of Contact Form 7 and the second I think about I could definitely if you able.
  • 20:14 - 20:24
then them that I'm gonna say that I could really helpful and sometimes large sites with different forms that they go to different people and different playing pages things like that,
  • 20:24 - 20:31
and we had actually create this pretty nearly spreadsheet know the track what pages each form was on,
  • 20:31 - 20:36
said to be nice to know like there is a place what you could no where are the forms like actually located.
  • 20:36 - 20:43
I would agree the place that would be out landing page where it's all contact forms,
  • 20:43 - 20:46
and less all your forms are neck and come again.
  • 20:46 - 20:50
just going with that consist we see what there were class call you why,
  • 20:50 - 20:56
and if you look at to the media library you can see what it's a touch to basically same thing.
  • 20:56 - 21:06
In fact, I will recommend that screen being a little bit more like the calendar you would like use it so since we don't actually love UI didn't question.
  • 21:06 - 21:11
So we should make them better first which line more and is very excited to do in point 1,
  • 21:11 - 21:17
there are a lot of point contribute here today anyone help make the meeing here so close better come here tomorrow all day long.
  • 21:17 - 21:20
    twelve time one more?
  • 21:20 - 21:21
    OK. One more question.
  • 21:21 - 21:26
If you know how is the question ask someone about here because someone have a question. How be good.
  • 21:26 - 21:29
    Really?
  • 21:29 - 21:30
    Andrea, ok.
  • 21:30 - 21:31
    Andrea, you win.
  • 21:31 - 21:35
You are safe and Jan can connect ask the question.
  • 21:35 - 21:42
unless you one nobody Andrea here.
  • 21:42 - 21:46
The question was am I interested in folking in this everything,
  • 21:46 - 21:48
    Contact form 8.
  • 21:48 - 21:51
    I'm not about doing so.
  • 21:51 - 22:00
And there are lots of other contact forms out there I will same in this is the second most popular plugin in the WordPress.org in plugin directory,
  • 22:00 - 22:03
it has lots and lots and lots of people using it,
  • 22:03 - 22:06
so any it make me done to make this better,
  • 22:06 - 22:07
