Life Doesn't Wait

  • 0:05 - 0:06
    I'm tired.
  • 0:08 - 0:09
    I'm so tired.
  • 0:10 - 0:12
Not from a lack of sleep,
  • 0:12 - 0:14
but from a sheer amount of disbelief.
  • 0:14 - 0:17
From seeing this water color world we live in
  • 0:17 - 0:19
slowly turning a light shade of tan.
  • 0:19 - 0:22
Smiles fading to frowns, ups turning to downs,
  • 0:22 - 0:24
some of us have lost our spark.
  • 0:24 - 0:26
Lost our drive, lost our heart.
  • 0:26 - 0:28
And frankly, I am tired of it.
  • 0:28 - 0:32
I'm exhausted by the sight of lives lacking a certain light,
  • 0:32 - 0:34
when each and every one of us deserve that right.
  • 0:34 - 0:37
Now do me a favor and lend me your ears.
  • 0:37 - 0:40
Keep your eyes peeled, place them here.
  • 0:40 - 0:42
Poetry and fancy word play on hold,
  • 0:42 - 0:45
    here's a meaningful story I've never told.
  • 0:45 - 0:47
You see, a couple of weeks ago, a day like any other,
  • 0:47 - 0:49
I was heading to meet up with some friends for lunch.
  • 0:49 - 0:51
And for some reason, I truly couldn't be bothered
  • 0:51 - 0:54
but tackling the mess that is Los Angeles parking.
  • 0:54 - 0:56
So, I called myself a taxi.
  • 0:56 - 0:58
You see, I'm the type of person who likes to
  • 0:58 - 1:00
make conversation with pretty much anyone and everyone.
  • 1:00 - 1:04
Whether it's an old lady at a bus stop, or a barista at a coffee shop.
  • 1:04 - 1:07
People are people, and they all have something to say.
  • 1:07 - 1:08
    After a few introduction sentences,
  • 1:08 - 1:11
me and this thirty-something year old gentlemen realized
  • 1:11 - 1:13
we're both creative types originally from the mid-west,
  • 1:13 - 1:17
out here in Los Angeles pursuing our many artsy endeavors.
  • 1:17 - 1:20
We continued conversing but quickly things got a little bit deeper.
  • 1:20 - 1:20
    He asked me,
  • 1:20 - 1:23
"Was your family ok with you moving on to a bigger city,
  • 1:23 - 1:25
and chasing such an alternative career type?"
  • 1:25 - 1:26
    "Definitely," I said.
  • 1:26 - 1:29
"They're just happy I'm happy and doing something I love everyday."
  • 1:29 - 1:30
    He continued by saying,
  • 1:30 - 1:34
"Good, that's really good you're doing something you're passionate about.
  • 1:34 - 1:37
A lot of people nowadays can't seem to say that.
  • 1:37 - 1:39
He hesitated slightly but then continued.
  • 1:39 - 1:42
"You know, my dad and brother worked night and day
  • 1:42 - 1:43
    for practically their entire lives,
  • 1:43 - 1:47
receiving little pay for doing something they didn't enjoy at all.
  • 1:47 - 1:48
They both always talked about how,
  • 1:48 - 1:49
'It'll be worth it one day,
  • 1:49 - 1:52
we can spend our hard-earned money later on.
  • 1:52 - 1:54
We will live a good life eventually.'
  • 1:54 - 1:55
    But you know what?
  • 1:55 - 1:56
    Neither of them got that.
  • 1:56 - 1:58
My dad died unexpectedly 4 years ago,
  • 1:58 - 2:00
and my brother just last year.
  • 2:00 - 2:02
They'll never get to live the life they always wanted to.
  • 2:02 - 2:05
So it's honestly very nice to see people following their heart,
  • 2:05 - 2:08
and living their life now, rather than later."
  • 2:08 - 2:10
And at that point, he dropped me off.
  • 2:10 - 2:12
After only a ten minute car ride,
  • 2:12 - 2:14
I left with a new perspective in my mind.
  • 2:14 - 2:16
    Life waits for no one.
  • 2:16 - 2:18
If yours isnt' going the way you want it to,
  • 2:18 - 2:20
if you aren't pursuing what you want to pursue,
  • 2:20 - 2:22
if you wake up with immediate dread,
  • 2:22 - 2:24
constantly saddened by the hours ahead,
  • 2:24 - 2:27
moving through the days feeling lost, heart in a haze,
  • 2:27 - 2:29
holding back what you wanna say,
  • 2:29 - 2:32
waiting to be yourself another day,
  • 2:32 - 2:34
all your dreams and desires put on hold to be fulfilled
  • 2:34 - 2:36
    maybe when you're old,
  • 2:36 - 2:37
    you aren't doing it right.
  • 2:37 - 2:39
    You aren't living your life.
  • 2:39 - 2:40
    Eventually is not ok.
  • 2:40 - 2:43
Why tomorrow, when there is today?
  • 2:43 - 2:45
I finally feel like I'm finding my way.
  • 2:45 - 2:47
And not just living day by day.
  • 2:47 - 2:50
I'm doing what I love, I'm going where I wanna go,
  • 2:50 - 2:53
I'm being who I want to be, I'm happy.
  • 2:53 - 2:55
    And you know what,
  • 2:55 - 2:57
I think everyone deserves to feel the same way.
  • 2:57 - 2:59
    Thanks so much for listening,
  • 2:59 - 3:00
and I'll see you guys next monday.
