This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Julia Rhodes has always been somewhat of an introvert. Here, she explains how she went from being in introvert to being an activist in her community.

Julia Rhodes is a senior attending Wilmington Friends School. She is the co-Editor-in-Chief of her school's paper, The Whittier Miscellany and President of Best Buddies. Julia co-clerks Amnesty International, which focuses on illuminating human rights atrocities abroad in her local community. Last year, the club focused on political prisoners in North Korea by bringing in Washington Post journalist Blaine Harden to discuss his book, Escape From Camp 14. The novel follows the story of the first and only person to have ever been born in and escape from a North Korean gulag. This year, the club has focused on unfolding the refugee crisis in and background of the Syrian civil war. Outside of school, Julia has been involved with the Delaware Youth Leadership Network for two years. Last summer, she helped plan and implement a six week-long leadership camp for under-served middle school students as an intern with Teach for America. In her spare time, Julia loves to travel, read, and write.
