    [Mooji] I was just listening
    to these cows over there.
  • 0:19 - 0:23
    [Friend] Yes.
[Mooji] What is their intention, I wonder.
  • 0:23 - 0:27
    [M.] Are they ...
Could it be that they are just resting
  • 0:27 - 0:30
    in their present moment?
  • 0:30 - 0:32
That's why they can move so quietly.
  • 0:32 - 0:36
Were it not for the cow bells,
    you wouldn't even hear them,
  • 0:36 - 0:39
just quietly munching away at the grass.
  • 0:39 - 0:42
Each one is moving at their own speed.
  • 0:42 - 0:45
Look, they each have their own way.
  • 0:45 - 0:48
One wants to go here, one wants to go there.
  • 0:48 - 0:52
There's no shepherd or farmer here,
    at the moment.
  • 0:52 - 0:58
They are just moving in their nature.
  • 0:58 - 1:04
It has become such a deeply woven habit,
  • 1:04 - 1:08
that we have to have an intention, a projection,
    and to dream.
  • 1:08 - 1:10
    And for much of it,
  • 1:10 - 1:13
we are not aware of the cost of it,
  • 1:13 - 1:17
in terms of it not allowing the space
  • 1:17 - 1:20
that is so important for a healthy life,
  • 1:20 - 1:24
    which is a space that
    is not occupied or preoccupied:
  • 1:24 - 1:26
    the space of being.
  • 1:26 - 1:30
And the space of being is the most important
  • 1:30 - 1:33
    for your physical wellbeing,
    physical health,
  • 1:33 - 1:38
    emotional health and spiritual health.
  • 1:38 - 1:43
    We seem to cram,
as though we have an inner diary,
  • 1:43 - 1:47
that we have to plan and put things into
  • 1:47 - 1:50
    and try to follow them.
  • 1:50 - 1:53
    It is a habit that
    has become so much integrated
  • 1:53 - 1:59
    with our human expression.
  • 1:59 - 2:03
And yet, I see how much it robs us of peace,
  • 2:03 - 2:07
and of the space to appreciate the silence
  • 2:07 - 2:14
that is very much at the very core
    of true and healthy existence.
  • 2:14 - 2:22
    When we
  • 2:22 - 2:26
    anticipate, or plan, or project,
  • 2:26 - 2:31
    we are already moving away
    from the present moment.
  • 2:31 - 2:33
And we feel, sometimes, through the mind,
  • 2:33 - 2:36
that in the present moment there is impatience.
  • 2:36 - 2:38
'I don't want to keep still.
  • 2:38 - 2:42
I have to move on. I have to do something!'
  • 2:42 - 2:48
But this is not a truthful response from inside.
  • 2:48 - 2:50
    It really leads to
  • 2:50 - 2:56
a kind of slowly developing state of anxiety
    that can be ...
  • 2:56 - 3:02
    It's so unexpected and undetected
  • 3:02 - 3:05
in how it seeps into the Being.
  • 3:05 - 3:08
We carry this kind of energy,
    as though we are charged
  • 3:08 - 3:11
    with some kind of restlessness.
  • 3:11 - 3:14
Some people even interpret the restlessness
  • 3:14 - 3:20
as a kind of spiritual speed.
  • 3:20 - 3:24
Like it's a good thing that,
    'Keeps me up and running'.
  • 3:24 - 3:30
    But for those of you
who are in the process of awakening,
  • 3:30 - 3:34
and are becoming more acquainted with
  • 3:34 - 3:38
    your natural state of being,
  • 3:38 - 3:42
you see that you have not lost anything of value
  • 3:42 - 3:50
    by jumping off, stepping off
  • 3:50 - 3:54
    this fast lane.
  • 3:54 - 4:00
    Somehow, quietly,
in the quietness and quietude of your own being,
  • 4:00 - 4:03
a different level of accomplishment is there.
  • 4:03 - 4:06
An accomplishment of stability and peace.
  • 4:06 - 4:11
The clarity of mind, purity of thought,
  • 4:11 - 4:15
    and purity of presence
    begin to emerge within you.
  • 4:15 - 4:17
    Isn't that a wonderful thing?
  • 4:17 - 4:20
    Isn't that a wonderful thing?
  • 4:20 - 4:24
And so, I would just like to take the opportunity,
    while I can,
  • 4:24 - 4:27
to share and to remind us of this,
  • 4:27 - 4:33
how important it is to avoid ...
  • 4:33 - 4:35
[M.] What was the word I used?
    [F.] Intention.
  • 4:35 - 4:38
    [Mooji] Intention. Too much intention!
  • 4:38 - 4:44
In fact, intention creates inner tension
  • 4:44 - 4:47
    because the being cannot rest.
  • 4:47 - 4:52
Just like we go to bed at night
    and we take rest,
  • 4:52 - 4:55
    we take unconscious rest.
  • 4:55 - 5:01
It is important to have conscious rest, also,
  • 5:01 - 5:04
in which you are aware of yourself
  • 5:04 - 5:11
beyond the functioning of, what I call,
    the instrumental self,
  • 5:11 - 5:16
the terrestrial being, the earthly nature.
  • 5:16 - 5:20
Integrate that with the deeper consciousness.
  • 5:20 - 5:24
    It might feel ...
    Some people may say,
  • 5:24 - 5:26
'If I come to the sense of being empty,
  • 5:26 - 5:30
I feel like I'm not achieving anything.
  • 5:30 - 5:34
    I'm just sort of ...
    That itself makes me anxious.'
  • 5:34 - 5:38
I say, Yes, because it's the habit.
  • 5:38 - 5:43
To create the space within oneself,
  • 5:43 - 5:49
may at first appear to be so passive.
  • 5:49 - 5:52
'You know, what is the point of that?
  • 5:52 - 5:55
What do you achieve by that?'
  • 5:55 - 5:59
I say, OK, you come back again
to the need to achieve, achieve, achieve.
  • 5:59 - 6:02
But you can only achieve upon and within
  • 6:02 - 6:05
and from something that you are already.
  • 6:05 - 6:11
And I think it's important to look into,
    what are you already?
  • 6:11 - 6:14
Before you pick up something, what are you?
  • 6:14 - 6:17
Are you incomplete? Do you see?
  • 6:17 - 6:21
And don't underestimate the power of silence.
  • 6:21 - 6:23
Not trying to be silent, no.
  • 6:23 - 6:28
But recognising that which is here by itself,
    before any effort is made.
  • 6:28 - 6:31
And just be conscious of that.
  • 6:31 - 6:35
It's not that you are trying
    to make yourself into something.
  • 6:35 - 6:37
In fact, we are doing that all the time,
  • 6:37 - 6:40
trying to make ourselves into some shape.
  • 6:40 - 6:43
I feel it's very healthy advice,
  • 6:43 - 6:48
to recognise what is already shapeless within you,
  • 6:48 - 6:53
which is formless and present; so spacious!
  • 6:53 - 6:57
    And in that spaciousness,
    and many people can confirm,
  • 6:57 - 6:59
even some of the great inventors
  • 6:59 - 7:04
and people who are famous now
    for inventions and great ideas,
  • 7:04 - 7:09
those did not come when they were
pushing their minds and trying so hard.
  • 7:09 - 7:12
Sometimes, in a moment of quiet relaxation,
  • 7:12 - 7:16
    and in-turned attention,
  • 7:16 - 7:18
    something gets revealed.
  • 7:18 - 7:21
We have to remember that my place of speaking
  • 7:21 - 7:26
is that something in us is already complete.
  • 7:26 - 7:28
    And from this completeness,
  • 7:28 - 7:33
    it comes to the mind,
    like a gift, a revelation.
  • 7:33 - 7:39
    And then this revelation,
it kind of flows out into the world.
  • 7:39 - 7:43
Now, I'm not so interested in things
and flowing out into the world.
  • 7:43 - 7:46
I'm just saying, within your own self,
  • 7:46 - 7:53
come to that beautiful, stateless state of being.
  • 7:53 - 7:56
Rest in it. Pay some attention to that.
  • 7:56 - 7:58
    Give some respect for that.
  • 7:58 - 8:06
    And see that
it is not just a bland, dull space, in fact.
  • 8:06 - 8:09
    Actually, even the greatest movements,
  • 8:09 - 8:15
the greatest pulsations or dynamism in the life
    come from that silence.
  • 8:15 - 8:17
Although the silence loses nothing to it
  • 8:17 - 8:20
    because when you are conscious
    of your silence,
  • 8:20 - 8:24
    then you may express
    through more dynamic ways.
  • 8:24 - 8:29
But still, it's rooted in that silence,
and that's a very healthy place.
  • 8:29 - 8:31
    So reflect on this, please,
  • 8:31 - 8:34
those of you who feel that it appeals to you.
  • 8:34 - 8:37
And begin your experience right away!
  • 8:37 - 8:40
    I won't say,
If you do this for six weeks ...
  • 8:40 - 8:44
    No. Immediately!
You'll find, also, that the blood pressure,
  • 8:44 - 8:46
for many people, will just drop by itself.
  • 8:46 - 8:48
    The breath slows down,
  • 8:48 - 8:52
because the breath and the mind
    are quite connected.
  • 8:52 - 8:55
It slows down and you begin to notice ...
  • 8:55 - 8:59
In fact, your field of perceiving broadens.
  • 8:59 - 9:02
When you are personal, it gets very narrow.
  • 9:02 - 9:05
When you're in your heart again,
    it becomes very open.
  • 9:05 - 9:10
Don't be afraid of this openness.
Can anything be more open than God?
  • 9:10 - 9:14
So when you're in your openness,
    you're in your God-field again.
  • 9:14 - 9:18
And I cannot try to describe what it is like.
    Do you see?
  • 9:18 - 9:28
    Serene, happy,
    all-encompassing, wise and peaceful.
  • 9:28 - 9:31
    Thank you.
