This brings us to Summary Task 2c:
Identify and Create a Preferred Site.
-
:You'll now select a candidate site and
export the selected feature to a new
-
polygon feature class named
Preferred_Site."
-
To do this you will first make the
Candidate_Sites the only selectable layer.
-
Make sure your Site Map is the active map.
In the Contents pane, click on List by
-
Selection. Right-click Candidate_Sites.
Go to the Selection menu and choose
-
"Make this the only selectable layer."
You should see only this layer checked
-
on now.
-
Next, we are going to change the Basemap
of the Site Map, so make sure the Site Map
-
is active. Click the Map tab. Choose the
Basemap drop-down and choose
-
Imagery Hybrid. Now what you're going
to do is zoom around on the map,
-
panning in and out, in the two different
linked maps and try and discover a parcel
-
location where you would like to have
your food trailer located.
-
So switch back to List by Drawing Order
and turn off the Zoning layer that
-
you no longer need, and turn off
Compatible_Zoning_Districts, and turn off
-
Food_Trailers and
Food_Trailer_Competition.
-
and so you should have in the Site Map
the Candidate_Sites layer and if you
-
want to you can click on it and choose
Appearance and set some transparency
-
so you can kind of see through.
-
And so these are parcels that have the
correct zoning that are outside of the one
-
mile buffer of your signature dish type.
And so think about an area of Austin that
-
you like, where you might want to have
your food trailer. Turn Layers off and on.
-
For instance, I live on the south side of
Austin, so I'm interested in my food
-
trailer being down on the south side.
And so I'm going to zoom in here and
-
take a look.
-
Looks like there is some new
construction going on here.
-
Don't want to do it there. Ah, this looks
good. This is a candidate site.
-
It has a nice big parking lot.
It looks like there are plenty of
-
businesses around. There are some
restaurants across the street, but not on
-
this side of the street as much.
And so I'm going to click on this parcel.
-
I'm going to right-click and choose Select,
and this is going to be my preferred site.
-
So I'm taking this parcel as my preferred
site and if I zoom out, let's see where
-
that one-mile buffer is. My nearest
buffer is way over here, so it's plenty
-
far away.
-
And so now that I have my parcel selected
I'm going to right-click Candidate_Sites
-
and choose Data, Export Features.
-
Make sure it saved in the geodatabase
and give it the name of Preferred_Site
-
and click Run. This is going to take the
selected polygon from the Candidate_Sites
-
layer, export it out to its own future
class within my project geodatabase,
-
and add that as a layer to the map.
So now if I right-click and choose a
-
nice bright yellow color,
I'll see it visible on the map here.
-
Click the Map tab and clear Selected
Features.
-
And be sure to save your project
before proceeding.
