Japanese traditional paper folding art, origami, is not only an art now. It can also be applied into medical field to save lives and has been established as one of new study fields "Origami Engineering." At the University of Tokyo, Kaori Kuribayashi-Shigetomi, combining micro-nano processing technology with origami art, established a novel technique which enables three-dimensional cell culture, called "cell origami." The technique is currently applied to regenerative medicine at Hokkaido University. Using cute animations and eye-opening videos, she talked about her journey from her dream to study about space to her devotion in using origami to save people's lives.
