the amount of money to be
made on each of the platforms

And really, the question
I'm answering for you

why this is important for you,
is which one has the most potential?

Which one's the least saturated?
Which one's more saturated?

So starting off, eBay in 2018 did
over 10 billion dollars of revenue
-
Amazon, 232 billion
-
So answering that question
-
Okay, Amazon's way bigger,
they're 23x bigger
-
However, there's sometimes
-
also think on competition,
the amount of sellers
-
So there's 168 million active
customers/buyers on eBay
-
and 100 million active
customers on Amazon
-
So there's actually more
on eBay, interesting
-
However, there's
6.7 million eBay sellers
-
And then there's 1.1 million active
Amazon sellers in the US market
-
How, on Amazon,
the numbers are active sellers
-
is sellers who have at least
one listing on Amazon
-
Which is quite interesting
when it breaks down on
-
why you should be
looking at these numbers
-
'cause you could just Google
these numbers yourself
-
But there's some kinda truth
to be told behind the numbers
-
and how that's all gonna explain
to the value you're getting here
-
So on eBay, there's
6.7 million active sellers
-
but that's throughout
190 markets
-
There's actually not a number
specifying where they're at
-
just in the US market
-
So let's say,
just for being safe
-
there's possibly
4 million active eBay sellers
-
So there's close to 4x more
active eBay sellers
-
than the active
Amazon sellers
-
However, on the
Amazon market
-
it shows that if a seller has
at least one product for sale
-
they're considered
an active seller
-
Which, I already know
because I'm an Amazon seller
-
and I'm an eBay seller
-
If someone has
a listing on eBay
-
they're probably
actually making money
-
Because with Amazon,
it's super easy to go make a listing
-
You literally can just
go plug in an ASIN
-
which stands for Amazon
Standard Inventory Number
-
and you're
listed right away
-
Which definitely,
like there's no
-
really effort put into it
to make a listing
-
With eBay, if someone's
active and actually selling
-
there is a time limit
on that listing
-
Now someone can go
put Good 'Til Cancelled
-
which means
they're gonna get
-
you know, hit with a fee
every single month on eBay
-
So if someone is just, you know,
playing around on eBay
-
they're probably
gonna put they're
-
listing on auction or
on just good for 30 days
-
So if their business
does not turn out well
-
they're not gonna be
an active seller
-
But now there's,
you know
-
I would say probably about
4 million active eBay sellers
-
So that means sellers that are
actually selling every single day
-
which is insane
-
On Amazon, there's
1.1 million active
-
However, the reason why I believe
that number's so much smaller
-
is because if you make
a listing on Amazon
-
it's gonna be there
forever until you cancel
-
So I think there's actually
way less than that
-
I would
-
I mean, going off
the numbers
-
Just 'cause I know how
competition works on Amazon
-
I would say maybe 10% of those
sellers are actually making money
-
So my theory is there's
probably only 100,000 sellers
-
that are actually making
money on Amazon
-
And probably close to
4 million that are creating
-
some type of
sales on eBay
-
I could be totally wrong,
that's my speculation
-
So, but either way, even if
I'm half wrong or 70% right
-
eBay's definitely
way more saturated
-
Now, so that's
the first thing
-
Amazon definitely
wins in that category
-
that there's so much
more room for Amazon
-
Now, there's certain
markets on eBay
-
we can definitely
make more money on
-
But where there's more money
to be made is 100% Amazon
-
There's way more
potential to grow
-
And also do keep in mind,
Amazon did do 232 billion
-
However, only 58% are
from third-party sellers
-
So around, you can say 150 billion
is from third-party sellers
-
So 15x more than eBay
-
eBay is only
third-party sellers
-
The second thing is
treatment towards sellers
-
and the customer service
-
So on eBay, if you have an issue,
you can call up a US representative
-
or the country
that you're in
-
You can have eBay call you
or you can call eBay
-
Amazon used to have
a really cool chat feature
-
where you can
actually chat with them
-
They've taken that away
-
And they've actually taken
away from some sellers
-
that you can actually
not even call them up
-
Now I can call up Amazon,
most people can call up Amazon
-
But Amazon,
for their sellers
-
tend to really go
back and forth
-
to be able to provide good
service and not good service
-
So I would say
here with eBay
-
eBay 100% wins in the
customer service aspect
-
The issue with Amazon,
their customer service for sellers
-
Now, the customer service for,
you know, buyers is extremely well
-
But I would say they have
good service for sellers
-
They come out with
better programs
-
They come out with
better service for sellers
-
They literally actually allow
you to ship out for them
-
and use their customer service
for your customers
-
So it's really interesting
-
I would say
on the aspect
-
if you're just
starting out on eBay
-
eBay has better customer
service for you as a seller
-
The treatment
towards a seller
-
They treat their sellers better
if they're just starting out
-
If you're on Amazon,
you're looking to scale
-
and you just need
more services to grow
-
getting into new programs
like Amazon Renewed
-
or getting better fees,
et cetera
-
Amazon definitely
wins in that category
-
So for this, it's definitely
a more complicated question
-
If you're a beginner
-
it's probably easier to work
with eBay if you have issues
-
If you are advanced,
wanted to grow
-
definitely Amazon
-
But if you're kinda, don't know
what the heck you're doing
-
You need help, like on what
to do with things, make listings
-
Amazon's not gonna
help you out with that
-
So there's that
-
Third thing is the fees
-
So I'll put a
screenshot up here

I'm also gonna look at it
on my computer right now
-
But eBay definitely wins in
this category with the fees
-
So Amazon typically takes
anywhere from 8-15% on their fees
-
That's the commissions
they take
-
If you ship out yourself,
that's all they're taking
-
If you want Amazon
to ship out
-
they're also going to be
taking shipping fees
-
which, sometimes is
actually way cheaper
-
For example, I sell a lot of
Xbox consoles on Amazon
-
And if I wanna go ship out
an Xbox console on Amazon
-
it's gonna cost me around $8,
which is extremely, extremely cheap
-
Compared if I wanna
go ship it out on eBay
-
where it'll cost me,
on the low end, $30
-
So if you're selling
heavier products
-
wanting to deliver
to your customer faster
-
Amazon will be cheaper
-
If you're shipping out cheap,
lightweight products
-
eBay's the better
route to go
-
But first off, let me go over
the eBay fees right now
-
So Amazon's
typically 8-15%
-
It's usually 15%,
but some categories like
-
electronics and
cellphones is 8%
-
Some electronics
is actually 15%
-
But eBay, if you're
selling shoes over $100
-
Athletic shoes, 0%
-
Under $100, 10%
-
Musical instruments,
guitars and basses, 3.5%
-
And then also on business and
industrial, like categories, 2%
-
Books, DVDs,
and movies
-
and music except
records is 12%
-
So that's the highest on
eBay you get charged, 12%
-
And then there's a 10% on
pretty much most other categories
-
Now do keep in mind, is that
eBay is partnered up with PayPal
-
and they're
switching to Adyen
-
which is another
merchant account service
-
So eBay's not
a merchant account
-
So when Amazon
is taking that 8-15%
-
that includes the
processing of the payment
-
eBay does not include the
processing of the payment
-
So you're gonna add on
probably another
-
about 3% or so
from PayPal fees
-
Which, PayPal is gonna
take an extra 2.9%
-
So that's that for the fees
-
To recap that, lightweight products,
eBay would be better
-
Heavier, more expensive products
-
definitely Amazon
would be the go for that
-
So now, I wanna go over
what products to sell
-
Now this is interesting
-
that's why I wanna talk about the
first thing on the money to be made
-
Definitely if you're trying to get
into certain niches and categories
-
you're gonna be
better off on eBay
-
The reason why,
you know
-
eBay, going back to
the fees that they have
-
You know, shoes
at over $100, 0%
-
Is because you realize that's
a big part of their business
-
Clothing, used products,
refurbished, secondary markets
-
Things that are not completely
new are gonna do better on eBay
-
A good example for this
-
I was walking around
at the ASD trade show
-
which is a huge trade show
for the online retail space
-
and the retail industry
-
And I was walking
down this booth
-
and I was actually
with a friend of mine
-
and said hey, let's stop
-
You know, there's not a lot
of suppliers here for Amazon
-
But that is 100%
a supplier for eBay
-
And the reason why is
because I'm not gonna say
-
the exact type of products
-
but it was kinda the category
I wanna call it is like vintage goods
-
Meaning that was like
throwback materials
-
So there's certain products on
eBay that are gonna do a lot better
-
I know things that
are used clothing
-
definitely refurbished products,
things that are definitely vintage
-
You know, sometimes
even homemade
-
And anything on those lines
where people kinda
-
I kinda think of eBay as
more of a garage sale, right?
-
And Amazon's more of
a shopping mall
-
So for Amazon, the products
that you wanna be selling
-
are gonna be more like
things that are new
-
That if you walk into a Best Buy,
you got the same thing
-
So think of Amazon
as a mall
-
That people are replacing
their shopping with Amazon
-
So the products that
you want to be selling
-
is practically anything that
you would buy in a mall
-
Or that you go to
a Walmart and see
-
If I look at the products that
I have in my Amazon account
-
I go walk in a Gamestop,
I have the same exact video games
-
Go walk into Best Buy,
I got the same exact things
-
If I walk into a Verizon, I have
the same exact Apple cords
-
If I walk into a Walmart, I have
the same exact bags of chips
-
eBay, I sell things
on eBay that
-
you're probably never
gonna see in a mall
-
So it's more unique products,
used products
-
Because also on Amazon,
if you try to go sell used products
-
you're, like meaning
somethings's already pre-owned
-
Like people have already used it,
it's not gonna go well
-
For example,
if I wanted to go sell this
-
used jacket right here
that I have
-
'cause maybe I don't
need it anymore
-
Maybe I live in a place where
it never gets cold and 67 degrees
-
If I try to go sell it on Amazon,
probably not gonna get any sales
-
On eBay,
you probably will
-
Now the last thing
I wanna answer is
-
who should be
selling on eBay?
-
Who should be
selling on Amazon?
-
If I were to tell
100 people right now
-
on the secrets to
selling on Amazon

and the secrets
to selling on eBay
-
Which, I just came out

and go buy it

Is, if I can tell 100 people

I think the success rate
of people who

Like, people who take action

and follow through to
make money on eBay

I think more people
will make money on eBay

But more profit will be
made on Amazon's side
-
So, I mean, I'm just
throwing up numbers

Let's say maybe 50%
succeed with Amazon
-
and let's say 80%
succeeded with eBay
-
So more people
succeeded on eBay
-
but people eBay,
there's definitely a cap
-
And there's definitely a limit
-
And there'll be smaller
amounts made, which is fine
-
Amazon, you know, there may be
less people having success
-
but one person
may just go through
-
'cause you can scale
so much faster with Amazon
-
So if you're a person that,
you've never been in e-commerce
-
you've never made
a dollar online
-
And if you're scared
about losing money
-
Amazon may be
harder for you to start
-
Now if you know

Meaning you've, you know,

Maybe you read

Maybe you checked out

If you're not confident,
if you're skeptical

What I would suggest
for you if you're skeptical

if you don't know how things work,
is do this on eBay
-
Set up an eBay account
-
It doesn't cost any money
to get started on eBay
-
Amazon costs $40 a month
-
You do sometimes get hit with
fees on eBay for listing things
-
But if it doesn't sell,
they refund it to you
-
Amazon, you have
to pay $40 a month
-
or you pay a dollar
a unit to list
-
Or to sell
-
What I would
suggest doing is
-
anything that you
have in your closet
-
anything you have in your garage,
old DVDs, old cassette players
-
Old clothing, shoes, accessories,
random junk, anything you can imagine
-
List those on eBay
-
Now if you don't have
any leftover junk
-
knock on your
neighbor's doors and say
-
Hi, my name
is Beau Crabill

and I am looking to go
sell your leftover junk
-
and I'm gonna
turn it into cash
-
You know how many people
say yes to that if you just
-
I mean, this is literally
what I used to do
-
And I tell people
to do this
-
and people make
decent money with this
-
is I used to actually
make these little like
-
If you've ever gone to a hotel
with a do not disturb sign
-
I used to make things that are
similar like that, door hangers
-
And I would say hey
-
my name's Beau Crabill,
tell 'em a story about me

If you're looking to turn your
leftover junk, I literally said that

Do you want to turn your leftover
junk into cash dollars today?

Text this number right here,
email me and I will come to your house

And this is
what I would do
-
I would take pictures
of people's products
-
I would list them
on eBay
-
I'd say, I'm gone
-
When this sells,
I'm gonna come back
-
I'm gonna drive
to your house
-
I'm gonna pick these up
and I'm selling 'em
-
and I give you cash for 'em
-
So what I would,
like split the profits 50/50
-
Sometimes I would be higher,
would be like 75/25
-
Depends what is you could work out
with those types of people
-
Some of these people, there's like,
they're gonna donate it anyway
-
Some people want to,
people would just give it away
-
or just literally
throw away
-
I mean, it crazes me that like
people literally have leftover toys
-
they have leftover DVDs that
they literally just throw away
-
Or they do garage sales
and sell 'em for like a dollar
-
So that's really a
good way to get into it
-
So, but now, if you're a person
that's just wanting to scale
-
grow, get going
when you're confident
-
You got more money to get into it,
Amazon's a good way to go with it
-
