What happens if GriGri gets trapped in the first Quickdraw?

Let's pretend that I am
a very lightweight belayer.

And my climber takes a huge fall

which drags me up into the wall.

And if I panic and let go
the brake side of the rope

to protect myself.

While my grigri gets trapped
in the first quickdraw.

Is this gonna kill my climber?

I already made a video showing that

if you press on grigris cam

and not hold the brake side of the rope

that might end up fatal.

So let's see if quickdraw can also

unlock the grigri's cam.

If you get trapped in it.

If I am pulled

so hard...

Wow!

I mean that was like
one shot experiment...

Though yeah well if you move maybe...

You will be going down...

The climber goes to the ground.

So yes, quickdraw can
unlock grigri's cam.

But to make this experiment even better

I wanted to see what
happens in a dynamic environment.

Where i would fly up and
jam into the quickdraw.

Unfortunately i'm not that lightweight

to fly all the way from the ground

into the first quickdraw.

So instead I decided to clip myself
with a separate quickdraw

just below the bolt,

so I would need to fly less.

Pulling.
Yeah.

Ah, no. The rope got pinched...

Pulling.
Yeah.

Oh, no!

Whoa, the rope... oh, man...
This is crazy what happened to the rope.

So first few attempts
the climber was 'saved'

by the rope getting trapped

between the grigri and the quickdraw.

Or in some cases even
wrapping around grigri's handle.

Which you definitely
don't want to happen.

But then we got this.

OK, pull it.
Yep

Whoa!

Yep, Yep.

All my backup went in.

So if i would not have this hand on,

my climber would be on the ground.

Attempt number two.

I'm gonna give you

one meter of

backup rope.

Yeah.

Whoa.

Yeah.

So here you go. Another reason why you

should never let go
the brake side of the rope

even if you're belaying with the grigri.
